The asking price for Gavrikov is the price they got for Savard per Friedman/LeBrun - ie a 1st round pick + 3rd round pick. Hard to believe Boeser is worth that. Also CBJ is looking to get Bedard - doubt they'd want to make any improvements this season. Davidson, their president of hockey ops and the boss to Kekaleinen, just had a media availability. He says for this season they were hoping to be in the hunt - ie they didn't even have making the playoffs as objective. CBJ is in the middle of a rebuild. He also acknowledged that the injuries this season has set them back as it's a lot of development time lost for their team as a whole. Doesn't seem to make much sense to add Boeser given where they feel their team is at.

Aho is UFA in a year - ie they might have only 2 tries left with him. Skjei and Pesce too. Slavin a year after. They have one of the best D-corps in the league with Burns still playing at a high level. If they want to win with this group it's pretty much this year. They also have 3 goalies - the Andersen injury hurt them last playoffs. When asked by Marek, Waddell didn't project to spend much at the TDL with LeBrun saying that Pacioretty was going to be considered as their own rental TDL add. He's now no longer available though. Skjei, Pesce and Slavin are going to be in their late 20s and who knows if they can get extensions done + there's Aho. Their approach on contracts for players in their late 20s is about to be tested. It's also a cap issue where they are on bargain deals and the Sinclair bankruptcy news (Carolina is even directly affected) could also limit what they'll be able to do if the cap doesn't increase as much as initially projected. They already made clear to Vancouver that Necas is off limits per LeBrun. Carolina could well be entering a re-tool and losing Necas would set them back too much. Not convinced that Horvat would want to extend there before knowing whether they can hold their team together. They should still go after him even if he's only a rental for that same reason. Miller has to be taken out of the equation to have a chance to make a deal with them though. Really can't see them wanting him - age/term of his contract + doesn't really seem to have the endurance or attitude to play their fast paced checking game.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wright for Horvat making sense for both teams was the comment I was disputing. Can't see them giving up such an important piece of their future just for the sake of a playoff run. Horvat's underlying numbers suggest that his production is not sustainable so why would a team whose owner calls analytics a way of life and hired an analytics GM would they just ignore it and pay him the C1 salary he seems to want. -

Regardless of Friedmans' take it doesn't seem to make sense for Seattle. Francis was also such a patient and conservative GM in Carolina. -

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Friedman says that Seatlle is not in on Horvat anymore. Says he was even told by some people that Seattle was never serious. Why do you think it makes sense other than it helps Vancouver. I don't see it for Seattle. Most projections at the start of last season already had Seattle getting into the playoffs - poor goaltending did them in. It seems weird that they would change strategy when they are where they were expected to be already last season - a bit better because the West has been so weak and some teams have ran into injuries. Seattle is a veteran team and not some team full of rookies that have still to figure out the league. In expansion they had mostly solid middle of the lineup veteran players available - not the game breakers but good players who could play and hold the fort as they set up a long term structure and bring in the high talent through the draft. Teams hardly make a core of players who were deemed expandable in expansion and Seattle is starting their prospect pool from scratch. Don't see why they would make that move when things are going as they were projected to go. Also Seattle is an analytics team. Leiweke says it's a way of life and they've even promoted their head of analytics to AGM. Kelly using Sportlogiq, who Seattle also seem to use, thinks Horvat is bound to regress. Can't really see why they would be blinded by a career year when they are so focused on making sure that the underlying numbers also support the production. -

[Proposal] NYI - VAN (Partner for Hughes)
mll replied to Phil_314's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
NYI already trying to do that to no avail. Lamoriello in his off-season presser talked of how they'd like to move one of their Fs to improve their D-corps. They've only been able to get Romanov and still have a need for Ds. Mayfield is also UFA. Lamoriello labels NYI a defence 1st team btw and says he's not going to sacrifice defence for offence. -

Boeser turns 26 in February so 2/3rds. The buyout window runs from circa 15 June (depends on the finals) to 30 June. It's a 2.2M cap hit for 4 years as his contract has a flat salary structure. -

Bratt has been eligible for an extension since 1 January. They've had really difficult negotiations in the past. As much as they want to retain him they might not be able to get a reasonable deal done. Meier brings something that they don't have in their top-6 and already has chemistry with Hischier. They might decide between one or the other after the playoffs - ie powerforward vs skilled winger. If they decide on Meier, they can trade Bratt in the off-season to off-set part of the cost of acquiring Meier. They can also trade Meier further or let him go UFA. -
Columbus are in the middle of a rebuild. Davidson, their president of hockey operations and boss to Kekaleinen was just talking about how it's a process and how the injuries this season has set them back as it has slowed the development of the team as a whole. They were hoping to be in the hunt late in the season - ie they aren't even yet at the stage of saying make the playoffs. They are still some years away from being competitive. Btw last off-season Kekaleinen assured that he's not trading futures for win now players. Gaudreau was more of an opportunity signing similar to when NYR signed Panarin in free agency early in their rebuild. CBJ has drafted for need in the past and Jiricek feels like a pick for need.

There are only 3 retention slots possible. Can't imagine management would want to retain on some of those long term contracts. Russo has repeated to no end that the Wild have no interest in Boeser - they apparently see him as a 1-trick pony. The cap doesn't even work. Swapping Boeser for Greenway leaves them in the same cap conundrum. They have no choice but to move Greenway as they need that cap space - they can't be giving it right back or it doesn't solve their issue.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Friedman thinks NJD is targeting Timo Meier over Horvat. He says NJD definitely see Hughes as a C. Horvat at C3 as a rental could make sense. Haula has been playing a fair bit of wing with Hughes. C3 has been more of a rotation - Boqvist, Mercer, Haula, have all took turns there. Adding Horvat would consolidate that line. Can't see them moving Mercer but Holtz could be available. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
58% in face offs on the official stat sheet - he went 11 wins for 8 losses. Might be a few more suitors nearer to the TDL. Quite a few teams can't add Horvat today without removing from their roster but nearer to the TDL there's more cap room to add and teams in LTIR will likely have a clearer timeline on the status of their injured players. Roster limits are also lifted then. Trading him at 75% retained should increase the return and it's cheaper to involve a 3rd team with less salary left to pay - 250K was about a 5th round pick in the past. The counter is that LeBrun believes it's going to be a buyers market with quite a few big names available and not as many teams interested or able to buy. He predicts that the asking price will have to go down for some of the bigger names. He was talking in general and not Horvat specifically. -

Not waste time. They likely want to prepare for next season and get players to play within the system and correct bad habits. Also allows them to see who will fit and who won't. Management doesn't look to be thinking rebuild but playoffs. -

Sinclair is heading to bankruptcy court to restructure a debt of 8.6 billion with the risk that they file for bankruptcy. They own Bally Sports RSNs which is a group of regional sports network (- there's a Bally midwest, Bally Florida, Bally South etc). They have the local broadcasting rights to 12 NHL teams - Anaheim, Arizona, LA, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, St Louis, Carolina, Columbus, Detroit, Florida and Tampa Bay. -
[proposal] MIN - VAN Rebuild Move
mll replied to Angry Goose's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The math doesn't work. The Wild only have some 10M in cap space with a roster of 14 per CapFriendly (who already take into account the projected 1M raise to the cap). Remove Greenway and replace him with Horvat at 8M would give them 5M to complete a roster of only 14 players. Even if they drop to 21 players instead of the standard 23 that's not even the 775K league minimum next year for each player (and some of the players they plan to bring back are going to get more than that). Guerin has already announced that they will need to clear cap this coming off-season. Greenway seems the most likely to go along with Goligoski who has a full NMC but they would likely want futures in return. Not sure that's the kind of return the Canucks would want either - they still want to compete on the Pettersson/Hughes timeline. Those prospects are quite a few years away while it sounded they are looking more for young roster players or close to NHL ready. Greenway's effort is really uneven and he doesn't always use his size + he plays with 2 guys with impeccable work ethic and hasn't been very good away from that line. -

Saw your proposal in the following post - that seems rather at odds with what Poile has been saying. He keeps on talking of how they need their younger players to grab larger roles - they are too old as a team and know they need to get younger.
