League minimum contract - that's a roster player. If the cap only goes up by 1M - that's last season all over again. Kuzmenko has no playoff experience - someone as brilliant as Kaprizov looked completely lost his 1st playoffs. He's shooting at 25%. Vancouver not exactly a team known for playing defence - kind of a requirement in the post-season. Not sure that teams who can't cover his bonus will make that bet knowing that they would start next season with less cap space.
-
His performance bonus also has to be factored in if teams want to avoid a bonus overage that counts against the cap next season. He has a 850K target and with his production he might hit part of it + the cap is projected to increase by only 1M. Teams in LTIR can't absorb his bonus this season as they can't accrue cap space. No idea if he can hit his full target but a 850K bonus is roughly 3.8M in deadline cap space for non-LTIR teams. 3.8M x 41 days left at the TDL / 185 day season = 850K.

Linden hired him - it was under his lead that they remodelled their human performance department which also led to the firing of Burnstein. He then left for the Golden State Warriors in 2018. -

Price and Subban with a final triple low 5. They used to do it after each win but Therrien/Bergevin told them to cut it out. The full tribute: -
They didn't expect him to be claimed - quotes are from a radio show he did.

He wrote about it on daily face-off too. If they add Boeser at full cap hit they'll have less than 10M in cap space (assuming a 1M increase) with a roster of 15 for next season. He has Kane as option 1 but he's dealing with a lingering injury per Friedman that might cut his season short. Option 2. Brock Boeser, Vancouver Canucks Boeser is an intriguing fit, given that he’ll come a lot cheaper than Kane and also isn’t an expiring contract. He fits New York’s age scheme well, he can put pucks in the back of the net when he gets rolling, and he seems like the prime change-of-scenery candidate at the deadline. If Drury is gun shy about trading so much last year for players that walked in the summer, Boeser is an option with a relatively low risk profile. Some teams have speculated that the market for Boeser is a second-round pick given his current contract. If he is a prime fit in New York, then his contract is manageable to try and wedge in for next season. If not, he could be flipped in the summer for an asset that recoups a part of that with a lower pick.

[Proposal] Trade Deadline + Draft
mll replied to Franz Liszt's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Russo is a reporter - not a columnist. He only shares what he has been able to confirm. Teams can tell media who can then share without disclosing their sources. Anyone following the Wild know that Russo and Guerin are really tight. Russo can even call up Guerin directly to get him to attend a live podcast with fans in attendance and by-pass the Wild's PR team. Guerin blew a gasket this off-season where he got so mad about some fake rumours and threw out a "they are full of crap". Russo tweeted that Guerin called him straight after the radio segment to let him know that he's obviously not the one he's taking a shot at. Guerin went on the radio the next day to confirm that Russo is definitely not part of "they" and went on to sign off on Russo as someone that can be trusted. -
He has an 850K performance bonus target. Some teams might be concerned about next season's cap space which could affect his trade value. Teams in LTIR won't be able to avoid the overage. 30 goals - 70 points would typically have an ELC player hit part of his targets but who knows how the targets are structured. Maybe it's a non-factor but to give an idea, if he somehow hits his full target, a team would need 3.85M in deadline cap space that they can no longer use to cover his bonus this season and avoid the overage. 3.85M x 41 days left at the TDL / 185 day season = 850K. No idea how that would work in a retained transaction - does the bonus still transfer in full to his new team.

The Hurricanes outshot Nashville 67 to 25 last week - Nashville won the game 5-3 after an insane performance by Saros. Martin had an even better performance than Saros based on quality of shots faced. CSA looks at the whole context of the play that leads to a shot (ie number of screens, passing plays, etc). -
Not sure to understand what you mean. A team in LTIR can't accrue cap space so they can't cover the bonus this season and it gets rolled over into the following season. Has happened multiple times to the Canucks - unused cap space gets forfeited in LTIR. I am also not sure the bonus would even get split with a retention. It's accounted for at the end of the season when he will be on his new team.
-
Washington has no cap space (unless Carlsson is out for the season) + they are in LTIR. Kuzmenko has a performance bonus target of 850K - for teams in LTIR that would have them start next season with a bonus overage as they can't absorb his bonus this season. Guerin has complained enough that they are too soft. Greenway plays on their GREEF line that has been essential to the Wild's success - it's that line that prevents opposing top lines from scoring. Can't see them breaking it up any time soon + Evason has stated so many times that it's never really worked when any of the 3 is missing.
-
A portion of the Wild fanbase is still upset that Guerin traded Fiala. He justified the trade by saying they can't make the cap work because it would force them to move out contracts which would deplete an already depleted lineup. If they can somehow clear the cap to fit Boeser, there will be the inevitable comparison + the only open spot is also Fiala's spot. Kaprizov-Zuccarello are tied to the hip on and off the ice - doubt anyone is going to risk upsetting their star player + their chemistry is so unique that Bowness compares it to the Sedins'. The Wild see the GREEF line as essential to their success and Boeser obviously can't replace any of them. So it leaves the Fiala spot with Gaudreau and Boldy. Really can't see how Boeser will live up to that expectation. Doesn't feel all that logical either. They have a combo of Gaudreau and Sam Steel and Hartman as their top-2 Cs and somehow are going to pay nearly 7M to a winger who doesn't even drive play. Btw Russo is certain that the Wild won't trade for Boeser - to be that categorical he likely got it from Guerin directly.

There's also a time pressure if they want to win with their current core. Aho only has a year left (ie 2 tries) before he hits UFA. Carolina also says they don't want to give long term deals to players in their late 20s because you'll end up paying for something you are not getting. Their D-corps is also a reason for their success and Slavin, Pesce and Skjei are all going to hit UFA in the next 1-2 years and will be in their late 20s. Their approach is going to be tested. Aho and Pesce/Skjei can sign extensions this summer. Unless they change approach, they might just consider Pacioretty as their main TDL add. Marek or Friedman on their podcast again repeated that Waddell believes rosters are constructed in the off-season. -
Kings and Kovalchuk agreed to part ways back in December 2019 - he still had another year left but walked away from 4.25M. He went on to sign with Montreal in January to end that season. His contract page on CapFriendly: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/ilya-kovalchuk

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Himself says he was paid market when he signed. He considerably exceeded the value as he continued to improve which made him underpaid - not quite the same as taking a pay-cut. As you note Johnson covers the increase - Colorado were apparently already trying to move him a few years ago. The increase doesn't really put them in a worse cap situation because it coincides with Johnson coming off the books. They've just fallen out of a playoff spot in point percentage - still close enough to get back in but it's not last year's dominant performance. Wonder if they will invest this season or decide that the odds are simply better next year. On Carolina re our previous exchange. Waddell was apparently asked if they might go for it this year and it doesn't sound like their approach has changed - not that you ever know. This was Friedman in his 32 Thoughts: 12. It’s not the boldest prediction, but Carolina can win the Stanley Cup this spring. GM Don Waddell said the team will look to add depth on defence and up front. Generally, the Hurricanes do not believe in rentals — or at least, paying a big price for them. Jeff Marek asked Waddell, if with a team this good, that philosophy changes, at all. “I would say this does not alter our thinking because we are in this for the long haul,” he replied. -

MacKinnon is starting a massive 8x 12.6M deal next season - ie sign that they probably don't see this season as their lone opportunity to win a Cup otherwise why extend him. Colorado is plagued with injuries and has never really found their groove this season. There's still time till the TDL but if they continue to hover in a wildcard spot got to wonder if they might just not just keep their trade assets for next season instead. -
Jim Rutherford Interview with Pittsburgh beat writer
mll replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
From this Monday - see the intro to the article where they refer to the upcoming game at Pittsburgh this Tuesday. It's not new themes although he is now responsible for some of those bad contracts and can't put solely the blame on past management. -
Thought Sat Shah said that the Canucks would have done Schneider for Miller 1-for-1 but it was never available. Schneider is considered untouchable. Trouba has a modified NTC on the final 2 years of his deal. Schneider is also only 21 - when Trouba comes off the books he will be 24. Seems like a pretty well timed transition between Trouba/Schneider.

The league is apparently paying attention. Russo was in the situation room last night and tweeted that "The league is sour about it and with him specifically". Got into a twitter exchange with a few leafs fans where his response: "i don't get the "crying" and "sour" shots...if leafs fans watched fleury knock net off on three offensive possessions, they would have flipped too. and the reality is, the league says it's a problem with murray and is specifically clipping these instances bc of him".
