  1. And here I had hopes the Nucks would no longer be soft. But alas. they appear to keep bending over in the name of Ws. Players can address this immediately despite the coach, if they rally together. Green will always need to take the high road to avoid liability and players can't get away with the Burt, next game thing.
  2. Nothing too unusual going on here. It's the sad reality I accept when reading/participating. I still follow the thread for player specific updates and general sentiment. Can't refute the common level of passion for the team and game. Haters and whiners are everywhere, not just CDC. I'm really stoked for this season and hope to win many friendly wagers. If Jake's our biggest problem, we are in awesome shape. GCC
  3. Perhaps because we kept hanging on to assets on a hail Mary pan to resurge. Alas it never happened and our rebuild was significantly prolonged with an empty cupboard. Ownership or management is the question?
  4. This one is too tough to call. I say go medium term, even if mean a huge pay-day--we'll have a cup by the anyway!
  5. Simple. Players pushing back when teams take liberties will make the season for me. The rest is gravy--and there will be heaps!
  6. Agree and hope he can stay in the line up without too much injury. He will be a huge target next year. I like the new team size and hope they can set a few rules for other teams' agitators and goons.
  7. I disagree. It's marketing not reality. Pettey sells tickets and may become the most important player but isn't there yet. He needs to stay healthy and he needs his teammates to help protect him when the league continues to fail him and the club.
  8. I wonder how the team will use its size. Will the team play a crushing game or is it simply a deterrent to protect our smaller stars? My guess is Green will likely still coach a "no retribution style" to avoid penalties. And he will want speedy plays rather than finishing checks. I am really looking forward to seeing a new team culture develop. I say go full retribution if the league continues with simple wrist slaps when our stars are viscously targeted.
  9. Fantastic News. Congratulations Elias! Such an amazing player to watch. Now we just need to learn how to protect him. Did the standings last year really matter that much in hind sight. The team could and should have sent league a message, despite some points on the line. Get with the program Green, we would have been destroyed in the play-offs anyway.
  10. Seeing year after year how physicality and team toughness make a huge difference in the play-offs and seeing our team remain so soft and not protect each other.
  11. The play-offs so far this year suggest to me that really fast and tough are still key. Sure superstars can make a difference but they won't score many goals while on their asses or the IR. Fast shadows can also neutralize the superstar offensive threat. Vegas is a good example. Oh, and Edmonton is a joke.
  12. Not enough money involved. And fixed is too strong of a word for the NHL, it's more like "managed" thereby permitting enough uncertainty of outcome to remain entertaining. Doesn't mean there's no corruption. People think Bettman is doing well because the game is growing in USA. I say it's at the expense of legitimacy.
  13. Teams need to win despite the officials some times. That's why I advocate for a punishing team. Even if the cards are stacked against you, you can always use brute force and intimidation to wear the opponent down. Eventually the calls start to even-up or the whistle gets pocketed after a barrage of goonery. But you also need great goaltending scoring talent to finish. Boston had that the year the Nucks were humbled.
  14. If the youth take a leap next year we really only need two UFAs to be in the hunt next year. 1) a stud D and 2) a stud winger. But we need both to be big and nasty. Enough softness. EK is only on my wish list if we find other ways to beef up the back end. Up front, we need way more size for line 1 and 2. Nucks were like a bantam team in a midget league this year. Yes, some great talent but they pushed around by school-yard bullies all game long.
  15. Make the draft experience fun for everyone but Bettman. Guy will always be a menace to the game.
  16. I highly doubt those antics would be tolerated by league or the Leafs. It's not the Nucks of 2011. I doubt Toronto has the "make them pay on the PP" attitude towards cheap shots. I also doubt the reffs. would acquiesce because you would have the wrath of Leaf mania. I haven't seen such a SCF officiating debacle since 2011, nor a play-off officiating debacle since the Nuck/San-Jose series in 2013.
  17. Many true fans of the game feel that way. If you dig deeper than the USA vs. Canada equation you will find these teams are businesses with rich owners and minority shareholders who exploit available markets. So your right, it's not a really patriotic expression like the Olympics or other international events. I still find it sad that a Canadian franchise which has never won the cup was hated so much by Canadian hockey fans. And I think it impacted Bettman's approach to officiating the SCF.
  18. I was in Gatineau Quebec at the time. Many were cheering for Boston on the basis that they had more Canadian players than Vancouver. It was sad. I suspect Canadian markets would rather other Canadian teams not be the one's to bring the cup north. They think it's their team on none.
  19. That was a big bodied man vs. boys game. Nucks made very few checks. Just can't poke that big of a team. Here's hoping next year brings more size and might. Happy off-season boys. Get ready for the ascent.
  20. I am so exited for the season to start. Led by Horvat, Sutter, Gudy, Tanev and Edler, enter a new, younger, hard working team that will surprise the Industry.
  21. Not sure why JB signalled disappointment with not moving up. Sounds like he needs some help with acceptance. His reaction caters somewhat to lottery conspiracy theories. The final rally at the end of the season was the difference between a top 4 and a top 10 result. Not a problem for me as I am happy with the Sendins' send-off. Next year will be entertaining. Like last year, the team is not bridled with unrealistic expectations and can mature and develop before our eyes. Making the big show next season will be a sweet moment and the start of something very special. If JB is permitted to keep stocking the cupboard, the nucks will have a great and long up-swing. I believe in this project.
  22. He was incredible throughout the skills performance. I think he will soon become a household name in the east when he wins the Calder to top off his majestic year. He's got the look and the goods to be a superstar and I fear for the size of his first legit contract.
  23. Too much hate for the guy early in the season. How he is deployed affects his offensive prowess but despite being used in a defensive role, he looks pretty good so far. Wait until next year without Sedin2. I suspect he will be given more of a leadership role, he will run with it, and the points will follow. In 19/20 or 20/21, his cap hit should look respectable when the Nucks are making a play-off push with few play-off veterans in the line-up. I think Benning's game plan is medium term with Loui.
  24. I'm surprised and impressed by Burrows getting speciality team assignments with the Sens--especially considering, as others have noted, his placement down the depth chart. His prominence is nothing like Kesler's though...Good luck Burrows, I look forward to this thread ending with a Sens cup.
  25. Was just curious about his ETA so I checked the page and started to wonder if that fight was a potential cause. After reading the posts, it became apparent there is no confirmation either way. Martin v. Dorset--hmmmmm, not sure. I wish the Nucks still had a true enforcer, despite the "new NHL"
