I smoked for way too many years and couldn't quit. Decided enough was enough and got Champix (Chantix in the US). Took it for two weeks while still smoking, then got the second two-week refill. Five days in I just stopped. The key with Champix is that it works on the brain and blocks the pleasing sensation that nicotine gives. So, you end up sucking on a cigarette and getting absolutely NOTHING out of it and you just put it down. One thing to remember then, is to stick to the NAP principle, Not Another Puff. It has been seven years this past May that I haven't smoked and I have had cravings maybe five times, but haven't given in. Champix worked for both me and my wife but didn't work for a good friend, so be sure to research it before asking your doctor for it.
