  1. Curious to know if it’s possible to trade Luongo’s cap recapture penalty to another team for a draft pick

    1. Ghostsof1915

Who would take $3 million for anything less than a 1st round pick?

Canucks are better off trading Eriksson, Sutter and Tanev for scraps.

    2. mll

Not possible.  Can't trade penalties, buyout cap hits or retentions.  Only contracts can be traded.

    3. Nuxfanabroad

You might trade some old 1980's Canuck nostalgic memories, for some 2020's's almost impossible to keep both under yer cap.

That approach also works in the romantic-realm.

  2. Sven- Bo- Brock

    Erikson- Sutter- Elias

    Nikolay- Beagle- Adam

    Roussel -Schaller- Virtanen

Extras: Granlund, Gance, Gagner, leipsic, Boucher, Dahlen, motte, Jasek

Top line has had success in the past playing together. Staying together to start 2018/19.

Erikson plays along side a play making centre in Pettersson, and Sutter on the 2nd line and Sutter can be insurance for Elias on defensive draws, and allow Elias to take some draws in the O zone.

The 3rd and 4th lines can look different with Virtanen and Gaudette switching spots.

In either arrangement the 3rd line gives you another balanced line with a high percentage face off specialist in Beagle and two speedy wingers with unique offensive abilities in Goldobin and Virtanen or Gaudette.

The fourth line is pretty solid too. Speedy and hard to play against with either Jake or Adam. They can chip in goals too and become a great energy line.

The extras bring value to the table too if injuries hit. To continue winning throughout the season we required depth and that’s what we have. We have bottom 6 forwards and top 6 forwards, who can step in and  contribute. There might even be injuries during off season training or preseason which means this depth is just right.

What about Gagner? Can we trade him at all?

    3. ItsMillerTime

Everyone disrespecting Leipsic he got 9 points in 14 games. Easily most exciting Canuck at the end of the season.

@Rounoush Benning and company have said that if a young player comes in and earns their spots and knocks down the doors, management will make room for them.  If that happens, it’ll force their hand. Players like Gags are pretty expendable. Granlund and Guance can be traded. Especially if they up their value in preseason games. And then there’s Boucher who has to be much much better and also Leipseic who hasn’t really got enough looks so it’s hard to know which leipseic he consistently is; same goes for Motte.

  3. Dexter Dancs 23yo college FA plays C/LW for Michigan, from North Vancouver. Good numbers throughout his career. JB should consider this guy

  4. Nashville got cheated just like we did.

  5. There is only one question JB needs to answer. Will Tryamkin return to the NHL and is he confident that it will be with the Canucks?

@Winter Soldier i understand that, but they're not direct comparisons. Nik is at the beginning, Kov. was closer to mid-career. But fair enough.

Kovy tried to sign a 17-year contract, tho...

ok all of you guys make fair points. But i just want to know from Benning that this isn't because he's leaving forever and more about going home and working on his game to be better in order to come back to the Canucks and take on a leading role. I don't care for all the other chatter around this situation.

  6. Whichever team gets to pick first in the 2017 NHL draft will be stupid not to pick Nolan Patrick.

Future #1 C with elite vision, playmaking ability, high end NHL caliber shot, great skater and mobility along with great Size.

Full package and a franchise player.

    1. Boeser6

Yes - issue of concern really is injuries but I believe his two injuries were different (not a knee then same knee kind of thing). Regardless, it does give teams pause that he may be 'brittle'. I doubt it is enough to prevent someone from ignoring the points you made but I 'could' see a team wanting Hirschier. Issue on him is weight not 'size' so if a team thinks he can get up to 190/195 ish they may do it. He could be a Joe Sakic type player so don't discount his impact. I would think most teams with a legit shot are watching both very closely. Could even come down to interviews and how they come across.

JB will have a complete book on both players and probably have issues on each that we don't consider.

back in time, montreal wanted the big power center in wickenheiser and passed on dennis savard. savard became a super star, while wick never lived up to his junior promise. hopefully get us a good player.

  7. Time to call up Labate & replace Larsen with Stetcher or Biega.

Haha look who just got called up.. peace.

    3. johngould21

Tanev is hurt as well, peace.

    4. Setyoureyesontheprize

Losing Tanev sucks. Hopefully it's not more than a maintenance day.

However you look at it though adding Stetcher to our lineup gives us a different look. If he can bring the same game he did in the pre season  then we'll be better at PP as well as on 5v5.

  8. Love looking at the dejected faces of Oilerr fans. Never gets old.
