  1. I like the idea of working in pairs. I mostly agree with you. I'd make a few adjustments. Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser (This was a line in 2016 I think and they were solid. I think Baertschi has a solid two way game, he is just overpaid. That isn't his fault) Hoglander - Petterson - Virtanen Pearson - Miller - Gaudette Motte - Sutter/Beagle - McEwen/Hawrluk
  2. I realise I didn't respond to the price tag. I agree with you, he is probably going to get paid. Perhaps with the flat cap he might not get a massive raise. 6.5 maybe 7. Anything more than four years you walk away. If the Canucks had cap space I would be okay with $7.5 Mill for four years.
  3. If Jimbo can get rid of Meyers I will be forever greatful. Not that I think Meyers isn't a useful piece, he just isn't useful for that price, in the same way that Loui has not been useful for his price tag. As much as I respect what Edler has done for this franchise, unless he is willing to sign for 1million for 1 year they have to walk away from him. I doubt Seattle takes any defense as we can easily protect Shmidt and Hughes. They can have anyone else they want. Rathbone is protected because of his ELC. I realise this all a pipe dream and that we cannot afford Hamilton, but I sure would like our teams chanes next year with a player like him on our roster.
  4. He would be the best (for now at least) defenseman on our team. I am not sure in what world would you say no to bringing him in for nothing? Obviously, we will not have the cap space to do this, but a top four of Hughes, Schmidt, and Hamilton + whoever is amazing. Any GM that passes on Hamilton because he likes to go to museums rather than the bar with his teammates is an idiot. If the guy makes your team better, you sign him.
  5. I think you nailed it. You are correct, perhaps Hughes, Petterson, Boeser are lights out next year and we improve, but they have been good for the last month and look at the results. Our bottoms six was good for the first month (production wise), but have now gone ice cold. Even if we get lucky and Hughes and Peterson combine to make 16 million next year, that only leaves 4 million to sign 3 NHL caliber defenceman (preferably one top 4 RHD) a top 6 winger and a 3rd line centre. That is impossible without some major offloading of bad contracts which would deplete our picks and our already depleted prospect pool. Realistically this team is 3 years out from being competetive. Which sucks, because we have waited 7 years already.
  6. I definitely appreciate that we have an owner who has been willing to spend money. Like you said, I can uderstand him wanting to have a say in how his team is run. I just wish he had the wisdom to let hockey "experts" (I use that term loosely) deal with his hockey team. I don't know this, but I am sure that in his other businesses he brings in experts and trusts them to run them well. I feel like as an owner it would be far mor effective to sit back and watch from a distance and review the performance on a year to year basis. I feel like I am being to rational though.
  7. I agree it is fixable, but not after this season. Hughes and Peterson will eat up all of the cap space generated by Sutter, Baertschi, Edler, Pearson, Benn and Hamonic coming off the books. Somehow we are going to have to replace three defensemen that are currently playing in our top 6, our third line center and a second line winger. Next season could be worse than this one.
  8. I have always wondered what the real story was. I fee like JB just nods his head and says yes to anything Aqualini asks. I am guessing that after dealing with Gillis and Burke that is what ownership wanted. Just because Linden was always my favourite player I imagine he say the stupidity of what JB was doing and spoke up. And since JB was taking his orders from the top ownership didn't appreciate being told their way of building a team wouldn't work and Linden was out. This is of course all pure fabrication, but that is how I imagine it went.
  9. Totally agree with you there. Since we are not going to be super competitive this season, this is the perfect time for Benning to play hard ball and call Meehan's bluff. Let Horvat sit out the season if he has to. I want a deal done, but I do not want the Canucks to get fleeced. I would rather see the Canucks be slighty worse this season without Horvat in the lineup than hamstrung with a inflated contract for the next 5 years.
  10. I'm out of pluses, but thanks for getting this up so quick. " An offensively very skilled player. Dahlén is a good scorer and playmaker and quite shifty with fine technical skills and overall offensive awareness. Furthermore, an agile and creative player with great character. Skating might look suspicious at times, in some ways quite comparable to father Ulf's, but he reaches good speed and and has impressive edge work. Good work ethic and a capable two-way player. - See more at: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=212368#sthash.F9lBTkJd.dpuf " Looks promising. Good return for burrows.
  11. I'm getting all sentimental now. This is one of the first times in a while I have been truly sad about a player leaving us. I realise its best for us and him. But man am I going to miss the dragon slayer.
  12. I had forgotten just how happy that made me. Thanks for posting!
  13. I've coached volleyball at a high level for 10 years now. Every coach is different, some coaches are old school some are cutting edge. I've worked with both. In the end its really up to the player. Every player can learn something from each coach they have. However some players do not like a coach and choose not to take anything out of their experience with that coach. Whether Benning or WD are old or new school guys Jake can learn from them if he decides to take their input to heart.
  14. We would be trading a player we would have protected anyway, would we not? So would the trade not be a wash? For the record I am against trading for Kane for anything more than a bag of pucks.
  15. I would like to see Hutton with a different partner as well. Not sure who's fault it is, but the pairing has not been great this year. Tanev and Hutton might be a good pair.
  16. Please not Kane. He is a locker room nightmare. Not the kind of player you want to bring in when you are trying to develop young players and teach them to be good pros.
