Bailey was seen heading to airport or maybe even the train station this morning. Canucks are coming east to face Islanders so he will beat the team there. He could actually drive there in 4 hours. Might be an issue if the farm was out west. Better keep it in Utica.

Word around town is Bailey was seen heading to the airport. Luckily, we are playing Islanders next and he can beat the team there. Might be an issue if the farm was out west. Deserving call up. -

And the goalie Jones who is basically a back up now is getting 7 mil for the next 4 years -
Baertschi wasn't free. His contract is 3.3 million or something this year. Nobody wants to pay that. Canucks would probably eat some of that to move him at this point as he has some value and probably needs a new opportunity.

I was thinking the same. Travis had him in Utica and Marky carried the team and they must be pretty comfortable with each other (and the assistants too) by now. The organization has stuck with Marky, accommodated him when he had family issues, and he has had to suffer through some lean years and the organization is turning the corner into a winner. Players want to be on a winner and Marky is competitive. I think he might take a little discount in light of all that. And the team is Swedish friendly. This is off topic a little, but remember when Loui and Travis had some sort of beef going over the summer? That is all in the past it seems and I think Travis is unusually good at being honest with the players about what he is thinking and expects. I would be very surprised if any of the abuse type stuff you have been hearing lately from players in other organizations would surface with him. He likes a very tight locker room where a lot of the motivation comes from the players, not from him screaming at somebody or playing Babcock style head games. Anyway, I don't know that Marky's track record is so impressive that he can be sure that some other organization will want to throw something crazy at him and we get outbid. I say he comes back, but that means with the expansion you might have to do something with Demko who has a lot of value. Having them both seems like a long shot under the circumstances.

Sunday Morning Confessional at the Church of V

Good point on Juolevi. He looks stronger lately. Heavier. I wouldn't write him off for a second. He is playing tough minutes for us too. -
I like Boeser with Horvat and would give this a try: Miller Pettersson Virtanen Pearson Horvat Boeser Sutter Gaudette Erickson Roussel Beagle Motte Seems like Roussel, Motte and Gaudette just plain refuse to be sent to the press box although they are probably the most obvious candidates, along with Erickson, to sit if Leivo and Ferland come back strong. Selfishly I would like to see them send Ferland and Leivo to Utica for a conditioning stint so I can see how they look. Give Justin Bailey a chance to have a cup of coffee with the big club. Then after a couple of games put Ferland in Erickson's spot. Give Leivo a shot in Roussel's spot to start with. Schaller to Utica

Also liked Edler Stecher and Myers Fantenberg instead of Stecher and Fantenberg, Edler and Myers. -

Justin Bailey has three hat tricks in the last four games before tonight. He ought to get a cup of coffee up there and send Mac back for some game time. And we still have Baertschi Goldibin Boucher Juolevi Sautner Rafferty, who can fill in if called upon. But with Leivo and Ferland there isn’t much room. -
Canucks may have to throw down and send a message that San Jose better get used to getting trashed by the Canucks.
-
Gaudette made that power play goal happen. Kid makes plays. Virtanen and Miller look good together. Big strong and fast. Tyler Motte is back full strength.
-
Two hat tricks in three nights, not bad for a guy someone called a plug. He has been good for the Comets this year and could be a nice little surprise. Just no room for him really but they should let him get a cup of coffee up in the bigs at least.

Like that lineup. Boeser was very good on his line, Sutter very good on his line. Louis is doing ok and that line is totally reliable. Virtanen doesn't have to carry the puck as much on the first line and can finish plays rather than start/create them. Plus he adds some rock em sock em to that line. If canucks get Roussel and Beagle going a bit better we will be scary. Only beef for me was Fantenberg struggling again in sheltered minutes. We may need to give Rafferty a chance. Anybody see Raffs goal from last night. Looked like Bobby Orr. -

Marky carried the Comets to the Calder Cup and came within a whisker of stealing it all by himself. He is fully capable of going on a tear and he loves a lot of work. When he stacked the pads against the Rangers I thought he looked like his Comet days when it was just stop the effing puck, not looking pretty/textbook all the time, which is what he has been doing the last three years. I think you have to have that balance between technical ability, which he has improved, and just plain stopping the puck and anticipating plays and doing things they can't teach you. -

Definitely playing much better, no argument there. He is on pace to double his output from his best year. That’s fantastic. I guess the point is that he has more upside. He was always great at grabbing the puck and if there is any room he puts the other team straight on its heels. But I think he should sometimes be holding the puck and holding his man off more often when there is nothing there like Horvat and Boeser do. Those guys enter the zone and if there is nothing they work strong along the boards a little more effectively. But V is getting there no doubt. I hope he re signs with Vancouver for sure. And I take your point about him playing with Roussel and Gaudette. Def has to make his own way on that line. His ceiling is high. -

He’s always great on takeaways but that giveaway stat is ludicrous not just for him but for all the players. They don’t count bad passes in the offensive zone or poor decisions on entry passes. -

Those stats don’t include passes that basically end the play and lead to the other team getting possession. Virtanen had five of those tonight alone. In the first two periods. If you’re not saying “what the hell was that pass” several times a game then Virt is probably having a great game. -

Hawks played well but just not deep enough of a team and they got bounced around after the timeout. Beagle and Gaudette lines started taking the body. Those top players for Chicago are still legit. Canucks were sloppy but effort was there at all times. Erickson solid again. Not so sure about Schaller. Virtanen gets to the puck and carries it well but he is still turnover prone. If he can clean that up watch out. Fantenberg struggled. Let him rest up and get Benn back out there. -

He was good all over the ice. Played a lot with Horvat who makes everybody better but he played off his teammates really well and worked hard on defense and maybe that goal will give him a boost in confidence. -
Kole Lind is playing very well. He was one of the best players on the ice against the Crunch on Monday. Encouraging development. He is right where he belongs and stepped up his game in the absence of Boucher, et al.

Markstrom, Biega and Baertschi careers were made in Utica during Calder run under Green. Virtanen and Demko both made in Utica. Not many who came through and got a shot with Utica and played modestly for Canucks have turned into something for another team. Corrado and Clendening both moved on to play in the NHL some but were trade fodder. So it isn’t like we did something wrong and missed the boat on somebody who took off in the NHL after leaving us.

I hope Baertschi gets a shot and does well. Chicago is probably a good team for him to play against and he does have chemistry with Horvat. It is funny how the chemistry thing works. I think Beagle, who is playing amazingly well, had a lot of chemistry with Motte and those two were a menace even on offense. Without Motte, Beagle has disappeared from the O zone a little, not that anyone is expecting him to score. Sutter also seems to show up more with some players more than others. He and Gaudette aren't bad together. I hate to pick on Loui but that guy seems to drag everyone down offensively. He is responsible on D. Never seen him have chemistry with anyone on the canucks and the guy played with the Sedins and Horvat who make everyone look good. -
[Report] Canucks recall Oscar Fantenberg
hobart16 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Fantenberg looked solid in Utica. He won’t make anyone forget about Hughes but he can step in and play third pairing no problem. Particularly against a heavier team like St. Louis. -

Fantenberg should do ok. He looked solid in Utica. Three games is probably enough to get back up to speed.
