  1. What is this passing tonight. Not so hot. Even on our goal the pass was off.
  2. Wasn’t sold on Jordie Benn but I am now. Two excellent games in a row. Marky wasn’t sharp but it is great that we didn’t need him and he can put one in his win column when off a little. Kings should have have been matched up better with lines at home but with the second and third lines being a menace it is a real pick your poison situation. Feels like their have been more stretch passes in October than in the entire Desjardins era.
  3. https://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/00000144-0a44-d3cb-a96c-7b4d63cc0000 Surprised to see National Geographic covered the game last night. Panther warm up early in the video, puck drops around 1:00 mark. Third period is around the 1:50 mark.
  4. Playing with Horvat is like medicine for players who need a little confidence to get going.
  5. Canucks look like the Comets lately. Comets had kind of a close one tonight. 5-1 final but only 3-1 lead halfway through third. That’s a nail biter in Comet land lately.
  6. Holy crap. The PK is like -1 net on the year. Schaller is starting to have fun and that fourth line is making Greener look like a genius.
  7. I see Guddy got traded to Nashville I think from the Pens. He was in the bottom pairing in Pitt
  8. Caps are pressing what a fantastic 5 minutes of hockey after Peteys goal.
  9. And they are road games on a tight schedule. That adds a degree of difficulty.
  10. How about that spin move by Hughes in tight with three guys on him. Wow. I probably would have played Gaudette and maybe even Erickson to get some fresh legs out there. But it’s hard to argue with the result. Virtanen has to add add even more of that agitator aspect to his game. Once we get Roussel back, between Beagle, Myers, Ferland, Roussel, Bo and Virtanen we are not fun to play against. Especially with Marky making the coaches look so smart. Power play loves Detroit. 5 goals out of 7 is it?
  11. Edler Tanev Myers kind of tired playing 3 in 4 nights. Detroit post game broadcast was very complimentary of Canucks with several good observations such as holy cow those Canucks have four lines who just keep coming and Hughes is a revelation. Classic case of wearing down your opponent and collecting your reward in the third. Beagle and Motte have a ton of chemistry.
  12. Yeah I agree 100%, I think it is only if you cherry pick and compare him to some other early picks. We need d men and he was a good choice that year for a blue liner. He had some bad luck with the injury. I think by the end of this year in Utica we will see what he really has (if he can stay healthy). Definitely taking a step forward this year already.
  13. The PK minutes are tough minutes and you don't get a chance to get a plus coming after the kill like the other defensemen. Risto and Daughty are the best defensemen on their teams. The fact that they had the worst +/- doesn't change that. I mean look at the Canucks last year, Gudbranbsen and Hutton had the two worst +/- and Edler and Tanev tied for the best. Doh! Bad example. It is pretty clear OJ is no Rasmus Dahlin (age 19) so in that sense Juollevi (21) is a disappointment whether because of injuries or he just isn't good enough. But then again who else is in Dahlin's category? Not many, and we sorely need D in the pipeline. I think it is hard to say right now whether OJ will justify the high pick but he has some great attributes and on Saturday he lazered a stretch pass that lead to a goal that probably made Jim Benning's heart skip a beat.
  14. Meaningless stat. Who had the worst plus minus in the nhl among defenseman last year? Ristolainen at -41. He is and was better than every Canuck defenseman you can name for the last ten years. Who was 2d worst? Drew Doughty -38. He is even better than Risto and has more Stanley cup rings than the Canucks organization all by himself. These guys are among the best defenseman in the nhl for multiple years. Bad plus minus means you were the best defenseman on a bad team playing all the PK minutes, getting all the d starts and covering all the best players in the league. Which is exactly what OJ was doing and on a bum leg to boot.
  15. I’m a season ticket holder and saw both games this weekend. The Comets won these games by a combined score of 15-3 so obviously a lot of good things happening and maybe it is easier to play d with 5 goal leads but OJ is getting the top pairing and having no trouble at all defending some pretty good players. Charlotte had some heavy forwards too. Half the time OJ challenged people almost at mid ice and just stopped them cold and turned the puck around, he challenged every time at the blue line again with success. Not flashy and not necessarily a puck carrier type either like Quinn Hughes but jury is still out. He has had serious leg injuries and I think he is rounding into form just now. Looks good on PK and he isn’t going to blast anybody through the boards with hard checks but he also isnt getting pushed around. No no need to panic. Another year from now with a full AHL season with good health under his belt and we will have something for sure.
  16. OJ looked good tonight. He has taken a step forward. He just needs to mature a little physically. I don’t think he has been physically there in the past. He could be more dynamic with the puck I will say that but he will be a good NHL d man
  17. Baertschi is head and shoulders above. Just toying with people. He was checking hard too although that is not a strength. He should be up as Canucks need his creativity, theft of pucks on D and Chem istry with Horvat. If they can’t use him maybe he can be packaged for something else but at his salary that might be tough.
