  1. Well. well. well...I never thought I'd see the day. Especially when a thread about a dick-shaped dessert is acceptable.... whereas a coup attempt here in North America, just below our Southern border and the despot who led it have been a discussion thread for at least 7 years, is not....Unbelievable.

Actually, if you read the reddit post on the dick-shaped desert, the post was not meant to be a joke. Imo, there were a lot of serious issues around it: sexualization of women, cultural views of women (it was from an Asian restaurant), lack of serious apology from the restaurant, etc.

@Vinny in Vancouver I think the bigger point is that for whatever reason, that body appendage dessert thread (which has become a bit of a joke thread. even if its origin and background touches upon more serious issues) is somehow more acceptable than threads that had meaningful purpose in helping to fight misinformation and keeping the record relatively straight, and that's a problem.  Further, politics (and to a lesser extent, religion) is pervasive in everything we do, in every issue that can be discussed (even if people want to stick their fingers in their ears and say lalalalala and deny its relation to and with everything), so to blanket ban political and religious discussion from the forums is not really conducive to civil discourse (and in fact, kind of runs counter to it).  I'd have more to say, but then I'd probably start running afoul of Rule 6 in doing so, so I'll just leave it at that.
