  1. Yeh because a torts like brawl has been how the NHL teams have handled these kind of situations....NOT! Just a scrum and verbal lashing would have been better than, game on. That's what people want. Remind other players he is off limits. Wonder if Guddy or someone else manhandles Matthews or Tavares, Would it be game on? I think not!
  2. 3 games is what I think he will get! Seems like the league wants to send a message. Anything less is kind of a waste.
  3. I am angry now. And I expect to be angry next time the Canucks don't respond!
  4. Two years in a row we did really well at the draft. I have always said you don't always get the best player when you win the draft. But you won't know until year three or more. I felt hughes was the best defenseman in the draft last year. We won't know for two years. But Elias would hands down go first over all if he played in the WHL or with his peers because he would have had 150 plus points. (but we will never know). Any player top 10 could turn out to be the BPA. When you pick 4 through 10 you can usually take your man. When you pick 1-3 you usually take the players ranked 1-3. Now how often is central scouting wrong? Ask Edmonton! Alexander Daigle etc etc. As I have said for a year plus we have our stud center ice man. And its looking like it.
  5. I have Elias getting 101 points this year. And I feel that is a minimum. (is also my statement before the games began) But in all honesty Elias will get better and points will be harder to come bye once the season starts to roll. Never in my thoughts did I envision him starting like this, as I took a lot of heat for claiming he would get 8 points in 10 games and take off once he had a three point night. (it was his 4 point night in the SHL that started his year long run last year) One thing I want to state is what others have said about EP. When the going gets tough he gets going (my English translation for the harder they played him the more they paid for it) His coach said the more they targeted him the better he played. When he was in the semi final they had a mission to shut him down and rough him up. It resulted in EP's best hockey. When fellow Swedes say " I am looking forward to seeing how good he can be in the NHL, Very excited (my English translation). One thing I noticed looking at stats of super stars and generational players-They started out as point per game players. I don't envision any circumstance barring injury where Elias doesn't have more than 48 points in 45 games (McDavid's first year) 69 points in 82 games (Austin Matthews first year) 102 pts in 82 games (Crosby's First year). And scoring seems to be creeping back to Crosby's first year.
  6. I have to say. Elias has 5 pts in 2 games. But that is not as exciting as low of ice time he has. But even more exciting is how many highlight reel shifts or moves he has done in a meager 2 games! Has any player filled twitter with more clips?
  7. I agree. he is almost certainly going to be a target. But he is stringy and tough. That being said The Canucks will need great penalty killing for the next decade, because they are going to need some muscle on Elias's line to keep others honest. There was one play in Calgary's end where the defenseman was trying to take Elias's helmet off. He played harder after that. WOW
  8. Goalie so expected shot! Did you catch his pass to the defense when he was skating behind the net! They we're sleeping. Going to take the others a little to catch up!
  9. Yeh know. Their isn't two players you would trade EP for.
  10. I just Can't see Elias not averaging a point per game this year. He passes at another level. Their was one play where he was taking the puck behind the net and he threw it too the Left point and nobody was home. Players will learn how to play with Elias.
  11. In Sweden he is the Swedish Gretzky. You won't have to ask that Question by the end of the season.
  12. I don't think the Canucks would take any player for EP from Vegas. And if they did they would regret it!
  13. This might be as close as any rookie gets to catching Elias. He is still catchable. At least until Saturday.
  14. I doubt they have a shot at the play-offs this year. I meant when they find their bearings they will trend that way, In fact its going to be the next two months that bury them, Not Jan-Mar where they start playing .600 hockey
  15. Peter Forsburg in my mind was close to being a generational . Ep on pace for like 101 pts will only get better as he plays. True its pre-season, but I am calculating the type of points he has earned, his vision at this age could easily translate to 100 plus assists, heck he could have had 10 or more and he is still adapting to our style. It won't be long and his name will be a top the points race in the NHL. And all I said is prepare to be amazed. Elias is as sure fire as Crosby and McDavid to be elite with better vision than we have seen in decades. And if he only wins the scoring race by 6 points then he is not generational. He is exceptional but not generational. But like I said be prepared to be amazed.
  16. Yeh when hart trophies were handed out it used too be Mario or Wayne. How many has Crosby won? A couple same with Ovie and the list goes on and on. A clear cut number one is just that. So disagree all you want He is the best player and at times by 6 or 7 points. Who was close to Wayne and Mario? Their we're no close thirds and fourths. In todays game a number of players can win the hart. Crosby has been the best player and in my mind is the best player. But he has never buried the competition.,,..That being said all I am saying McDavid wins by 8 or 10 points is not a clear cut number 1. Now win by 25 or 30 or more is what I am talking about. So I am not talking about a best player. I am talking about a hands down Michael Jordon, Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux type of player. Just go read the names on the Art Ross. Then you will see what I am talking about. 1980–81 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 164 1 1981–82 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 212 2 1982–83 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 196 3 1983–84 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 205 4 1984–85 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 208 5 1985–86 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 215 6 1986–87 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 183 7 1987–88 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 168 1 1988–89 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 199 2 1989–90 Wayne Gretzky Los Angeles Kings 142 8 1990–91 Wayne Gretzky Los Angeles Kings 163 9 1991–92 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 131 3 1992–93 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 160 4 1993–94 Wayne Gretzky Los Angeles Kings 130 9910 1994–95 Jaromir Jagr Pittsburgh Penguins 70 1 1995–96 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 161 5 1996–97 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins 122 6 1997–98 Jaromir Jagr Pittsburgh Penguins 102 2 1998–99 Jaromir Jagr Pittsburgh Penguins 127 3 1999–2000 Jaromir Jagr Pittsburgh Penguins 096 4 2000–01 Jaromir Jagr Pittsburgh Penguins 121 5 2001–02 Jarome Iginla Calgary Flames 096 1 2002–03 Peter Forsberg Colorado Avalanche 106 1 2003–04 Martin St. Louis Tampa Bay Lightning 094 1 2004–05[c] & — & — & — & — 2005–06 Joe Thornton Boston Bruins/San Jose Sharks 125 1 2006–07 Sidney Crosby Pittsburgh Penguins 120 1 2007–08 Alexander Ovechkin Washington Capitals 112 1 2008–09 Evgeni Malkin Pittsburgh Penguins 113 1 2009–10 Henrik Sedin Vancouver Canucks 112 1 2010–11 Daniel Sedin Vancouver Canucks 104 1 2011–12 Evgeni Malkin Pittsburgh Penguins 109 2 2012–13[d] Martin St. Louis Tampa Bay Lightning 60 2 2013–14 Sidney Crosby Pittsburgh Penguins 104 2 2014–15 Jamie Benn Dallas Stars 87 1 2015–16 Patrick Kane Chicago Blackhawks 106 1 2016–17 Connor McDavid Edmonton Oilers 100 1 2017–18 Connor McDavid Edmonton Oilers 108 2
  17. Prepare to be surprised. I would be very very surprised if he is not. Just going on record as saying that because he has tools to be elite. The NHL has not had a clear cut number one player since the Mario Gretzky days. Swedish players tend to develop a little later also. so expect as Brian Burke said "he might not have a ceiling". Starting tomorrow Elias will do the talking.
  18. Welcome to the big club Elias, for many they expected it. And for some their was absolutely no doubt. Elias has made the need to draft Hughes as that franchise center obsolete. And because we have Elias we probably have no chance at finishing low enough to be a lottery team. Expect exactly what you have seen in the pre-season from Elias. A highlight for twitter every game or so. ( Hard to find a game from Elias where he didn't do something spectacular in the last 2 years). Elias is a quick study and just in 5 games I noticed a lot of improvement 5 on 5. From the first game in Penticton where he lost every face off to pre-season where he was winning 30-40 % of the draws, in just a couple weeks.
  19. Elias will be the player other players chase for NHL MVP. This could be McDavids last crack at it.. LOL He is def generational. Players like him don't come around very often. A generation is considered 20 years plus. EP breaking 20 year old records...…...hmmmmm
  20. Man its way to early to know what the Comets have. They could have Demko and many NHL or NHL close players, maybe some of the young guys weren't as good as they thought they were in Van. Expect the effort level to jump big time.

    Sam Gagner | C/W

He has the tool box. You could be right. Just looked like he had no fight in him. This might be the wake up call he needs. I like Gagne and expected more. He needs to find the Gagne that went to Edmonton and had the 8 point night.
  22. Looks good except the injury. I hope not.
  23. Its really hard to Believe that anybody could have felt Elias needed time to season in the NHL. After the preseason has ended to many (especially those who have followed Elias) he has done what he always does....succeed. Its funny how a player that put his name on so many records in Sweden wouldn't follow the path of the players he has succeeded. Now the fun begins " He won't get 40 points" "He will be lucky to stay healthy" "He will need to adapt to North American Ice". For those thinking he wont get 40 points. He probably will have 40 points in his first 40 games and will be gaining confidence every game. It won't be Elias's size that causes his injury if he gets one, He is way too smart and hard to hit. Maybe a freak injury like his finger injury but that could happen to anyone. As for north American ice. he is already looking like a top player on the Canucks. 1 goal 5 assists in the pre season while playing and adapting that's not the impressive thing. He could have easily had 3 more points if players knocked pucks into the empty nets. And that's not the most impressive thing: He is not a liability 5 on 5, as often high end offensive players tend to be. But that's not the most impressive thing. As brian Burke said "Elias might not have a ceiling" and that's not the most impressive thing. Its his age and weight, What Elias does at 165 lbs and 19 ish maybe 20 now is scary for his total upside. He will get stronger and Quicker and he doesn't seem to notice he is not 190 lbs. Welcome to the Vancouver canucks Elias and move this thread over to the big club!!
