Will the Canucks win a dispute with NHL on cap penalty?
cory40 replied to Slegr's topic in Canucks Talk
Aaron Rome! That's all I need to say with the Canucks chances of winning this! -
Nils Hoglander, does this 2nd round pick scream potential?
cory40 replied to koregen's topic in Canucks Talk
Could be a gamer! Time will tell. These young kids need to play against men. That's where you know if they themselves will be men. I am thinking Cole Lind! He hasn't faired well so far but was toughed as a steal! -
I agree 100% And I bet by mid year we have more people on board with this statement. And I took lots of hate for saying this before the draft last year! Even before the lottery!
-
I wouldn't do that trade! JV is going to get his wheels matched to his hands or vice versa and then watch out. Nylander is going to be on Video Highlights at the intermission with red circles around him his entire career. And any young player that demanded to be paid for what they could be and not what they are often failed because of the HYpe and expectations the money put on them. Exactly what Toronto watched with NYlander.

Elias had an awesome season! He broke Pavels record. He also was undersized and playing a completely different position. Yet he excelled. He will get stronger and when he does he will be as good as many here feel he will be. He is crazy fast and yet has room for growth. As he gets stronger his legs will hold him up a lot better. He at most of the season was 5 pts above 1ppg. But then he slipped as he clearly was fatigued. He also had the fatigue of last years Swedish championship. No small feat. And also the play-off MVP. He has shown he can lead. Its too bad he isn't resting! But that will come very soon! Once he is rested and 1 year older its scary to think what he will bring to the table. Throw Hughes on the back end. (something the Canucks have been lacking) All year I watched our defense lack that first pass. And often hesitate and lose that play only elite players find. Hughes will bring that confidence from the get go. Plus he can skate and pass so forwards will be wary to rush him.

team was close last year. Just letting the few players go that are gone could be enough. Pretty sure this team isn't a draft lottery team next year. EP a year older and a really good offensive defenseman is going to limit defensive zone time. Its amazing how 1 or 2 players can change a team.

if your right then play-offs are right around the corner. Like April 2020

I had hughes at 1 .

Well you have a point. And I bet .00000001 % of all hockey people would agree with you. So at least their is a chance. I do believe Elias has become the Canucks best center on a team lacking depth! Imagine what Elias could have done on a Dallas team. But wait for a year with Hughes feeding him the puck.

The game is going to a more game management. Where the NHL controls who wins and lottery structures win and so do the owners. Worst officiating I have seen in 35 years!

Aside from his foul language I didn't mind his opinion at times. But very sad for him and his family ,What a loss and unexpected at that.

The Canucks will be the next Canadian team to hoist the Stanley Cup
cory40 replied to Gator's topic in Canucks Talk
This post of mine should be a topic: April 25th on NHL radio they were saying the chances of a Canadian Team not winning the cup as long as it has been is like less than 1%. And probably could never happen again! But It comes to mind the Canadian teams that did make the finals and didn't get a fair shake! (94 game 7scf) not to mention how many times Canadian teams had to beat the referee's as well as the team they are playing. (late 90'2 Dallas stars and Oilers0 You could throw in Canucks San Jose a few years back when power plays were like 20-2. To think any Canadian team will have a team good enough to beat the NHL is foolish, and denying what has taken place the last 20 years! Toronto and Boston series confirmed this for me. Game 1 Boston was allowed to beat the (jdfh) out of Toronto before the officiating showed up! Anyone thinking this was not initiated by the league (and I do not like Toronto Period) is closing one eye to the facts. I have heard countless media pointing out to their fans to "talk to Canuck fans" about how the whistles are put away. (only when it benefits the US teams. And when it doesn't they come out. One common denominator is "its always against Canadian teams" The reason can be debated: But as Don Cherry said years ago: "Canadians watch Hockey anyways. If you have two Canadian teams in the finals you would have fox people jumping from their high rise offices" So how long do I think before a Canadian team is good enough that they can beat crappy officiating and hoist the cup? Maybe we are seeing something good in Vancouver! What if we end up with the best player in the draft again and he is not on anyone's list? Well history is starting to favor us at the podium! -
[Speculation] Keith Gretzky to VAN for President?
cory40 replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
Your post is sincere and looks at Keith for what he has done. And not what his last name is. President is just a fan appeaser anyways! -
I gave this a lot of thought since my last post. Had Pat Quinn not traded Gino Odjick Pavel would probably have finished his career here. Now with Jim Benning trading Dhalin maybe their is some smoke to this, Elias also cooled right off after this trade. Maybe because it added to his fatigue. The Dhalin trade might be a bigger loss than one expects!

BTW my heart stopped when I read the title. Was this April fools? Or was it an April fool?

All GM's do this. try and buy a cup. And their window often is cut short with a few upsets in the play-offs and players not performing the way they thought they could. Tavares signing changed the leafs landscape so much it added money to almost every contract since. The teams usually keep their core's together. But sometimes rifts in the dressing room etc force movements. I read comment s that elias would get maybe 9. If he is the player we seen at the start of the year( and very well could be) he will be 10 plus. And with cap space going up and the misuse of money by management we might see 7 million be an average salary. The owners have always been their own worst enemies. If they got together they could make their own payment structure and the players could do nothing about it!
-
Jim Benning has a ace up his sleeve. Nobody will have the player the Canucks take as high as the Canucks take him. Twitter will explode. CDC will collapse. And in a year on or two when Benning land Jack because of his struggles he will look like a genius!

I thought this was to buy #1

As long as Petey is not traded. because Jack won't be better than Petey. He may be about the same for numbers but Petey is a 200' player.

Jim Benning will represent the Canucks at the 2019 Draft Lottery
cory40 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
If we drop to 13th I know its rigged! -
I sometimes listen to these rants and wonder: Is Ray trying to put his name out there for GM? The rants these x players make and x-GM's are at best attention grabbers. Like saying ….hey I would have started sooner. Its a different ballgame when your at the helm. I love what I am seeing. This team at times looked like they were a play-off team. And at times wounded and other times inexperienced!
-
I love how the media and some fans feel the Canucks have Edler in a bind. He should only sign for 1 year and how much etc. And he should not get a NTC. Edler is not signing anything with-out a NTC. He is also a top pairing defenseman that teams will line up to over pay. The Canucks are resigning him. And the market value has gone up drastically. The Canucks need to build off this year. They can afford to have to replace Edler also!
-
With a couple breaks this year they would have been competitive. A few less key injuries. I know the stats people like to use man games lost. But that doesn't always tell the story. We can't lose our top 2 defenseman and a Suter and recover. This was one of the more unhealthy years I remember! If Joulevi makes it next year and 1 more defenseman and a forward and this team is off. The depth looks better now than earlier. And the team was much better than their results showed. They had flashes of top tier. And their still young. They will learn to make hay sooner than later. Just my opinion.

And yet we look to be poised to play-off contenders soon. Didn't it take Toronto 3 decades?
