I am thinking Jim should take a few thugs to help persuade Gary for a honest lottery! -
Jim Benning will represent the Canucks at the 2019 Draft Lottery

Proving we don't need a top 3 pick to get a very good player. -

I would so laugh if the Canucks fall in the lottery and still end up with the best player in the draft! -
He will be in good enough shape to avoid that. But hey we will all see.

Goldy will never be a top 6 winger in the NHL. He doesn't have the motor for it. KYLE WELLWOOD comes to mind. He might get another look, at the same time we give another player a look. Insert failed player here-___________. He has shown less speed this year than he did last year, Maybe he is too scared to go with his instincts. If that is the case then a lot could be made of not having the right coach to mentor him. I am sure players are on too much of an edge to just play hockey. Early in the year we were winning games 6-5 but trying to tighten up. I am wondering if Green is a coach that won't have Hughes scared to make a mistake. Just saying!

Brian Burke mentioned that Luongo is not going to retire and leave all that money on the table. He might however show up to training camp out of shape and not play but still get paid. So no LTI but rather not fit to play!

There is no chance Petey does not win this award. He has done more through a entire season than the others. Dhalin himself looks gassed . It shows how much of a grind the season is.If anything it puts in jeopardy his clean sweep of the voting. Just watching the highlights from the season EP is miles ahead.

The Canucks have been the NHL's whipping team more than once. They will try to force this as hard as they can. But in the end they will not be penalized to the full degree. It stopped the contracts from finding loopholes that actually existed. Its kind of like trading salary to a team that needs to hit the cap floor. This is a big boys club and they will find a way to hide it. Could they trade the Luongo contract to a team needing to hit the cap floor?

Pettersson and soon Hughes will prove tanking doesn't always get you the best player. The hockey god's sometimes even things out on their own!

Peteys just tired. He will be stronger next year. He has a highlight reel season that might never be matched by any rookie ever. He has a lot of un believable plays. Wait until next year. He stepped into the year and here were the concerns. (1) needs time in the AHL to adapt to the rink size. (2) He is too small to be effective. (3) He has never really played center at the pro level (4 games) (4) After being dominated in face-offs at the Penticton young stars (myself included) thought he might never win a face-off (5) He is not tough enough. Well here we are the season is winding down and Petey has succeeded at not only playing center but first line. He has been the one player that every team has focused on. (how many rookies in the last decade other than McDavid and maybe Matthews had that pressure! No other rookie in this years race have had to pay against the other teams best players night in and night out! Center to boot!

Should have had the penalty shot goal with the thrown stick.

News Canucks’ Elias Pettersson is chasing the first Calder Trophy clean sweep since Teemu Selanne Only one rookie in NHL history has swept the Calder Trophy vote, but Canucks rookie Elias Pettersson is making a case to become the second since Teemu Selanne to sit atop every rookie of the year ballot. https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/canucks-elias-pettersson-is-chasing-the-first-calder-trophy-clean-sweep-since-teemu-selanne

Vancouver 1040 2h ago TonyG: Aquilinis went from impatience with Gillis to too much patience with Benning Tony Gallagher says the Aquilinis have to find a happy-medium with their approach to GMs, suggesting the club was impatient with Mike Gillis and is now being too patient with Jim Benning Evidence that the local media needs to be replaced. I could care less if the owner of the Canucks is not patient enough or too patient. But having media in TSN or anywhere with headlines like this is exactly why the media needs a overhaul. The next sportsnet broadcast leave Tony G off he doesn't need the airtime!. I could care less about his opinion.

And Elias in the 150 pt range! Elias himself makes players around him better! Add Quinn to the mix and wow!
-
Depends on what part of their careers your looking at. Did Mario almost score 100? Wayne could score and he did. He could also pass and he did. When Mario and Gretzky were in their primes it was some of the best head to head games I have ever watched. I take Gretzky all day every day. Most points in a season and most goals in a season. Cracked 200 pts 4 times. I am sure its because When Mario was at his best gretzky was already declining. But in the early years Mario chased Gretzky! He never caught Gretzky! But man when Gretzky was against Mario in the early years their was no question who the best player was! So

I have noticed this also. I have also noticed Biega skating the puck up the ice when EP is wide open. I have also noticed Boeser hang on to the puck when EP is open. The young guns have quit passing. Hughes is coming at the right time!

Elias has cooled off by his standards to start the season. But he hasn't cooled off to the point anyone chasing him catches him. He is still .5 to .6 ppg over the last bit. that being said when Dhalin was right there with Elias for assists. But Elias has actually moved ahead by 3 assists. Elias has dropped from 1.14 ppg to 1.00. And he seems to be looking a little more energized last couple games.. If anything having Quinn H coming will add to Elias's point totals. For the Calder race gap to close Elias would have to be held pointless and the other players would have to finish strong. For Elias to finish the season in a slump lets say at >.6 ppg he would maintain is current lead. Just on sheer highlights alone their is not a close second just on how many primary assists Elias has. Elias could probably win the Calder if he sat the rest of the season!
-
EK is a seasoned veteran he is not going to change his game or lose confidence if he is burned. Dhalin has yet to prove that!
-
He has struggled and ELias walks away with the calder. Just as much as Elias has struggled so has Dhalin. Anyone looking at the highlights alone can't over see Elias has dominated this year. And with Quinn back and Tanev. It will mean better passes to ELias and he will finish strong. Dhalin has averaged .60 points per game in hos first year. Now its Hughes turn! Does he match it? Or does he struggle? I am just saying he is what the league has been waiting for. My call is .87 points per game.
-
Its very possible you are right. And it could happen. But the higher the pick the better chance they have of succeeding and the more pressure on them if they don't.
-
GO watch Dhalins draft video. He is a highlight reel machine with little finnsh. So as it is only March we have seen Dhalin and now it is Quinns turn. I am saying and have said he will do better. The talking is all done. Now it is show time. And we will probably get a 10 game sample size. He is another unbelievable prospect.
-
Temper your expectation. I keep hearing from Journalists. Temper your expectations. I laugh. Speculating is fine. And we have had some players measure up. Quinn to me will put expectations on himself. And he will do better than all of us expect. Quinn will start out as a point per game player maybe a little less. like .87. He is way different than Dhalin. He is an elite skater with unbelievable hockey IQ.
-
I have been saying this since the draft, I am on record as saying Dhalin is not the best offensive defenseman in this draft. Before we got Hughes!
-
I too am concerned with the big delay!
-
Quinn hughes played his cards with saying he would sign and be here in Vancouver as soon as his season ends. His agent flipped out at him reminding him its his job to get him the best contract possible. And with Vancouver giving Elias the best rookie contract at pick 5 they have forced their hand with Quinn Hughes as well. Just top pick players playing the teams for best contract available. If Vancouver puts a similar contract as Elias received Hughes will be here as soon as possible!
