For what it is worth, I agree with you.

2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
dpn1 replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
This year in 49 games he scored 61 points 29 goals 32 assists. Over a point a game. His numbers aren't that bad. -
I think he needs to work on his being more intense. Maybe Jimbo could call him out like he did to GB at the end of camp last year.
-
I have to admitt that I find this Jake thread a little nice to prospect Jake.
-
In the last month of the season he seemed to be doing quite a bit at high speed. Some times he looked too fast for the AHL. He made some pretty amazing end to end rushes and one particularly where he went around the net and set up Valk for a nice goal. I think it was against the Penquin's farm team, if I am remembering correctly. My wife is watching me type and is laughing at me because she says my memory isn't as good as I think.

I wish you were right (Hope this wasn't sarcazum) but it is highlly unlikely.

I am a big music fan and like a lot of styles of music but being over a half century old I have to say I wasn't a fan but got a kick out of the drummer. I think he was the youngest.

Well, back to Jake now. I am looking forward to camp this year. Lots of competition and a renewed Jake is going to blow every ones socks off (In a good way)

I watched a lot of Utica this season and your statement that "Plays died on his stick quite frequently" isn't what I saw. I the last month when he started to put things together his rushes were creating offence. He was snake bit this year points wise but to make that statement seems a bit much.

Mmmbop Hansons.
-
I have to agree with you on him. I think he's the real deal. Good on ya' Jimbo.
-
I didn't realize he was a natural center. Does he have the potential to be our #1 guy?
-
Watching Dahlen workout on the Canucks site, he seems stronger physically than I originally. I saw a picture of him by L.E. and his arms are as big as L.E. I think he may surprise and make the team. I think I like more as a prospect than Goldy. Goldy sounds a little flaky to me. Its just the feeling I get when listening to Goldy talk in interviews. I see Dahlen doing well as a play-off performer as well because of his willingness to go to the dirty areas to get the puck. Maybe Goldy is a bit enigmatic and will be fine.

I would like to know what the percentage is of players in the first three rounds that make it to the NHL?

I find it hard to too be disappointed with 18 to 20 year old draft picks. In the end its a bit of a "Crap shoot) . Sometimes we get lucky with drafting. We don't always see it right away but it will come. Look at Bo. We have a future captain who out performed the Sedins in his first play-off experience. We have an incredible leader and future captain. We now build around him and we will get our Stanley Cup. Jake will be a big part of our team in a middle 6 position. A big plus for him as well is that he can play both sides.

I actually bought the AHL Live package this past season and really enjoyed watching it. The only thing I didn't like was the varied quality of the broadcasts. Sometime the picture was good sometimes, not so good. In the last 25 games or so Jake was snake bit with regards to goal but he looked good . At times it almost looked like he was too fast for the AHL. He would start in his own end and ramp it up and by the time he hit the opposing teams blueline his line mates (except for maybe Valk) 4 strides behind him.Watching him fly down the wing with speed was quite something to watch. The one thing that empress me was how he skated just hard coming back as he did going on the offence. Also the announcers commented for the last month Virtanen was one of the best players.

I am not saying that the points are the main issue. I'm just saying that at 18 years old it's tough to predict what a players is upper-level will be. In five years it would be interesting to take the draft order they were in and arrange it to show who the best choices were.
-
My point is more that they were taken above him and not that much better at at this time. Plus I do believe was the younger side of this draft. Dal Coole is not in the NHL and apparently the Islander are not happy with his development . The people at the draft thought he would step right in to the NHL..

I find it hard to be to negative about the kids drafted. We always get ticked when ever the couple guys taken ahead of Jake but what about the guys before? Rienhart, Dal Colle, and Bennett. These guy aren't exactly lighting it up. Some are even using the dreaded "Dud" word (except) maybe Bennett but he isn't doing as well as everyone would like. Top it off with a weak draft and the fact that the needs of the team took Virtanen for his power forward potential. The draft is like trading Futures. Risky business but every once in a while, you win. The Canucks did't do so bad with Jake

I have been thinking that he could be a similar player to Jonny Hockey in Calgary. I think I line him as a prospect than Goldy. He comes across a little more passionate.
-
Also. Green has talked about Jake's struggles this year but both Jim and Green have said that he had a good heart and attitude in Utica this year. There is no reason he won't continue in that. They know him best and if it wasn't true I have to believe it is true. They were honest when they sent him down, why wouldn't they be honest now?

How much stock do you put in what the Canucks are saying about him. If you believe the coach and management, things are looking good with Jake but if we believe what people are saying here, he is a guy who will never amount to much. Now I am from the Fraser Valley and a bit of a Jake supporter I admit but come on, I think he will be a regular 20+ goal scorer and in this league that is pretty good.
-
I am having a tough time believing that with everything that has happened with Jake this passed year that the doesn't make the team this coming season. He would have to be pretty thick not to show up in his best condition possible. I am sure he will be a highly motivated individual to quiet the critics. Greener and Jim say he has matured and on the right track. I predict good things from Jake this year. 15 g. 25 a. would be a good estimate at his totals for the Canucks this coming season.

Didn't he have a bad injury in junior and as a result didn't get drafted. He then just worked his butt off to get to where he is now. I think he was thought of quite highly before his injury.
