So any chance we can trade a 3rd and a 4th to get in the 2nd round? Maybe even 2 3rd round picks if they’re targeting a guy at the top of the 2nd round.

We just got one in Hronek. Durzi was just moved for a 2nd round pick. The year before John Marino was moved for peanuts. People become available you just need to be good with cap space and smart with your asset building which we haven’t been lately. Tanking Garlands and Boeser’s value by playing them on the 3rd line and scratching them, then sending Podkolzin and Hoglander to the AHL because they needed more wingers so they spent 4.5 locking up Mikeyev isn’t good cap and asset management. Anyways back to the pick it seems more draft for positional need over BPA but I do like the player and hope it works out but I do think in 5 years time Benson could get you a Willander type player+ more.

Because Matthew Tkachuk was the best player available but Benning talked about how we were so weak in defensive prospects so he picked for the best defenceman available. Turned out very poorly for us. Now fast forward and Zach Benson who has the skill to have been picked in the top 6 of this draft class but we pass because again our defence prospect pool is weak. I can see why people are nervous for this pick because it’s hard to look at Willander and Benson and say Willander was the BPA.

So draft for positional need cool. Hope this one works out better than Juolevi over Tkachuk.

They proved BPA last season taking Lekkermaki. Benson at 11 is a bigger steal than that! I’m just hoping their philosophy is BPA and not best Swede available and take Willander.

Small wingers always fall. Is he good enough to play center? If he can Benson is a steal at 11

I feel like Seattle would be crazy to not bring him back at that if that’s the ask. He must be asking for and thinking somebody will give him over 4 mill.

We should help them with their cap and trade them a 3rd round pick for Nicolas Roy. He can be our 3rd line center.

Just think to yourself if you would do that trade you proposed then the other team would likely decline. Neither of those trades are enough. If you want 3rd you better be offering Pettersson or Hughes.

If it goes like this and Philly offers you Sanheim and 22nd overall for 11th (Benson) and Beauvillier do you take it?

The right decision probably would have been to sign 50 pt Horvat before the season started to like 6.5 mill a year long term. They waited and he just blew up! Then you’re trying to bargain with Horvat pacing like 85-90 points for the Canucks. It then became too rich and not worth it as a 1 year sample size of great production also not having cap room for another contract as big as what he created for himself last season.

Must be nice spending 2nd round picks for good lol. Been in this cap hell for so long I thought they’re only used for get out of jail free cards.

One guy got to play basically all his minutes with Pettersson and Kuzmenko and for some reason PP time. While the other got 3rd line for half the year. Just have to think if Garland got to play with Pettersson and Kuz he’d have another 10 points on the year.

If management does trade down to move out salary like a Beauvillier and or a Garland picking up Yamamoto on a cheap one year deal could be a great buy low sell high player.

Newhook plays center but he doesn’t win enough faceoffs to stick at the position. I’d wager he transitions over to the wing. So really him and Hoglander should have similar value. With the Canucks talking about moving Garland and having Beauvillier’s contract expiring after this season we’ll need Hoglander next year to take a step and show he can replace those guys the following season.

This kids vision and determination is incredible. Could he play center at the next level? Right now he’s a winger because he plays with Savoie who is a Center. If he could adapt to the Center position he could be a Brayden Point type player. It’s just whether or not you believe he’s good enough to play the Center position.

Maybe you wait and see if the small winger dropping trend repeats itself. I’d take Benson and or Reinbacher if either fell to 11th if not make this trade and get one of Willander or Simishev.

I’d probably do that trade. If they really like Barlow, Danielsson, Willander and Simishev I believe one of them fall to 15th. I’d be sad if Benson fell and we traded out.

Jiricek and Nemec are unrealistic as both guys were picked higher than 11th and have done nothing to lower their stock. To get them it’s like 11th and next years first.

Guy that has underperformed and probably not getting big dollars. However still young enough that maybe he gives you more every other year. I wouldn’t mind Dumba if you can get him for around 4 mill.
