  1. He’ll bring a cup to wherever he goes on his next 1 year deal.
  2. Would be awesome! I know people keep hunting for a RD and say we don’t need anymore LD. What we also need just from watching us get hit all playoffs and nobody on our backend doing much back is a guy that can punish forwards physically! This is a big guy and he plays a nice physical game!
  3. Retain nothing on Eriksson. It will make it too hard to take on an 8.5 mill cap hit to keep 3 mill of Eriksson on the cap. Eriksson has been paid most of his money so while he’s 6 million on the cap he’s only paid 2.5 mill a year. I think for a team that might be trying to chase the cap floor and pushing money out having Loui pull in 6 mill in cap is not that bad. He’s not bad for a team that cares more about cap floors than cap ceilings. Loui is still a viable bottom 6 and pker which isn’t that bad for a 2.5 mill price tag per year.
  4. I think that’s what people are having a hard time grasping. I don’t think OEL has requested a trade rather than Arizona trying to shed the 8.5 million that they’ll have to pay him with minimal revenue coming in. I really do think some hockey markets will be hurting and we could see a weird trade market where teams try to reach the cap floor without spending real dollars. So much so that they might find value in Eriksson playing in their bottom 6. Now I’m not saying value as in where they pay assets to get him but where Benning might not have to give up as much as people are thinking to get rid of him. Ottawa has been a very cheap team and some of these rebuilding teams might not want to spend too much for FA’s when there might not be fans in the stands helping the owners turn profits on the team. Paying Eriksson 2.5 mill a year but counting as 6 mill to get you closer to the cap floor might actually be attractive to some teams.
  5. I think a big thing for the Coyotes is shedding real dollars. An offsetting cap deal where Eriksson is going back is not that bad if you look at him as a bottom 6 guy that you only have to pay 2.5 million in real dollars for 2 more seasons. Rather than the 8.5 million a year to OEL. I think with Vancouver being one of the only teams he’ll waive to the price might be a little lower than we all think. Something like Eriksson, Benn, Juolevi and a 2nd rounder 2021.
  6. He might not be a top 6 right now but you make it sound like he’s years away. He looked pretty good in Finland and if there was an injury in our top 6 I could see him sliding in and doing better than Virtanen as early as next season if we had the choice between those two guys. Improves the 2nd PP unit as well which improves our team more than an inconsistent bottom 6 player. In the near future it gives you the opportunity to move a winger for a good dman because you have a viable guy that can play a smarter more skilled game.
  7. Add a top player for one year before Demko is an RFA with a ton of leverage on a deal. After next year Demko is probably on a bridge deal and only 2 mill less than what Marky signs for.
  8. I could honestly see the same happening and may have already been offered. Probably trying to get Markstrom to agree to a 4 year deal but he probably wants 6. The trade might not come to fruition though because of the term both sides want.
  9. Virtanen year after year is looking like a bottom 6 player. Which are a lot easier to find than guys with Puljujarvi’s potential. I’d still make the trade because if Pulj hits his potential he’s worth a lot more than what Virtanen is now.
  10. Benning has already developed a working relationship with the Lightening. Hopefully a deal can be reached for Cernak!
  11. Wasn’t that long ago that Pirri went on a tear and Vegas was asking for Puljujarvi out of Edmonton lol
  12. I’d do this which probably means it’s not enough going to NJ. Maybe make it a 2nd round pick.
  13. I wonder if this could also be JP Barry looking around the league to see if there’s any interest in a multi year deal at more than 2 mill a season which is what he’s getting from Vancouver. If they know he’s going to get sent down to the minors in Vancouver for 2 million a season and say a team like LA wouldn’t mind having him at 2 million a year for 2 years in the NHL. Then maybe Barry and Eriksson terminate the contract with the Canucks and sign elsewhere.
  14. Brenden Dillon is the guy I would sign! Make it happen Benning! I think he can play with these young guys while also being a little bit of a protector. Dillon is a LHD from Surrey BC and he’s 6’4” 225 pounds and actually throws big hits unlike the rest of our dmen.
  15. Let’s get some grit on the defence! I love Tanev but he’s likely looking for somewhere along the lines of a 5x5 deal. I don’t want to spend that on a guy at his age and with his injury history. I think trading or offer sheeting Cernak and signing Brendan Dillon would be a fantastic change for our defence. Hughes Cernak Edler Myers Dillon Juolevi Benn and Rafferty as 7 and 8
  16. That’s a big price to pay as I feel Juolevi can become a top 4 dman himself! His biggest hurdle will be if he can stay healthy. I’d personally rather offersheet Cernak or build a trade of similar value.
  17. If the Canucks can offload Eriksson and potentially make the switch to Demko as the number 1 with a cheap backup that should be around what Pietrangelo would be making. Would have to get creative if he wanted to add other pieces.
  18. I think even if he’s slightly better than Juolevi and Rafferty in camp he still gets sent down next year. Juolevi and Rafferty are worth NHL season game looks. If Rathbone makes the team then you have to waive one of these guys. I think Rathbone will surprise and look great but I wouldn’t be shocked if they give him a full year in the AHL. Don’t rush the kid! Let him play 20+ minutes in every role in the AHL than 11 minutes every other night in the NHL.
  19. He always plays great against us. If people think he’ll sign for cheap I wouldn’t mind a cheap one year deal.
  20. Could use another forward that uses their size. Too many big guys that peel out just before the hit in the playoffs.
  21. Stetcher is an RFA that’s set for an arbitration number higher than he’s worth because of how much we used him. Much like the situation with Hutton. I don’t know if a team would pay for Stecher. You’re right on Virtanen though! If the rumours are true on Benning looking to shop Virtanen we could definitely recoup some picks.
  22. To get rid of Eriksson and Baertschi in the same deal I’d easily do it attaching Virtanen and a 2nd with only a conditional 7th coming back.
  23. So Vancouver shouldn’t give Montreal a 4th round pick for his rights :p. I’m sure the Jets will be glad to have him.
  24. Some great names to look at. I usually do my homework and look into prospects available but without our 1rst and 2nd round picks I just haven’t been as excited as recent years. But everybody else that has done their homework and posted names available is sure bringing the excitement back into it for me so thanks! I do remember Villeneuve as I talked about him earlier as a 2nd round option when we still had that pick. I find it hard to believe he’d still be around at our 3rd round pick! The guy led his team in points as a dman! That doesn’t happen very often but when it does I don’t know why I just think more highly of that players abilities to put up points if put into a better situation.
