That is if the GM of Seattle wants to take as many sweetheart deals. I would definitely steal some players.

The expansion draft could handcuff a lot of teams and leave some good guys available for a trade. Dumba, Brodin, Fabbro, Gostisbehere, Faulk, Skjie, Fleury and Bean are just a few off the top of my head that I can think of. Minnesota or Carolina could be a good trade partner for a dman.

No it doesn’t but just because we’ve accumulated a plethora of great prospects/assets we shouldn’t take it for granted and waste it on short term bandaids. The pool will dry up really fast this way. Our problem is on quality dmen. We have less assets now to acquire one through a trade if that’s a route Benning wants to take. There are some teams that will be handcuffed with the expansion draft and we could take advantage of. The only dman we really need to protect is Juolevi and Tanev if he’s re-signed. Now without Madden teams will look at Podkolzin as a quality prospect in a return.

I think the main reason I want him signed is because I sure would be pretty disappointed if all we got from Toffoli was 10 games at the price of Tyler Madden and a 2nd round pick.
-
Not only that but before getting traded onto a good Vancouver top line Toffoli was about to put up his 4th consecutive sub 50 point season. Now I know the LA Kings are a shade of their former self but Kopitar is still there and managing to produce on that top line. I just hope Toffoli and his agent don’t try to leverage his short stint in Vancouver as he could produce closer to ppg than his last 4 years have suggested. Here’s hoping Benning can get a 3-4 year deal at his current rate of 4.5ish mill because I do think he can be a good complimentary player in our top 6. If it came down to it though I’d rather give the contract to Tanner Pearson if we could only keep one of them moving forward.

I picked the Stars because the Blues are a much deeper team!

I dislike the idea of changing the drafting age. The draft is exciting knowing that you could still get somebody great later on with good scouting. Our team is kinda based off good scouting and drafting. If the draft age was 19 we wouldn’t have Boeser, Pettersson or Hughes on our team. Not to mention the many gems we’ve found out of the 1rst round.

The way I see it Juolevi replaces Stecher. I see Stecher’s arb number being too high just like Hutton. Rathbone I don’t think they’ll keep up to sit in the press box as a 7th dman only to get in every other game. I could see them sending Rathbone down so he can play top minutes every game to help him develop. That 7th spot is where I’m hoping there’s an internal competition between Chatfield, Sautner and Brisebois.
-
I’m hoping Benning doesn’t bring Fantenberg back next season. I have nothing against him as he’s been alright. I just think we should be promoting within the organization when it comes to a 6-7 dman. One of Chatfield, Sautner or Brisebois can fill that spot.

That looks right to me. So cheer for the good guys our Canucks and as an alternative also cheer for the teams behind us in the standings. Also of the 8 teams that lose they all have a 12.5% chance at winning the lottery and picking 1rst overall. So if by some miracle the Wild beat us we’ll be winning the lottery so it doesn’t really matter which teams make it through lol.
-
I’m hoping there’s more deals leading up to the expansion draft for teams to maximize there protections and get something for there guys. A team like the Flyers are potentially looking at Ghost, Myers and possibly even Patrick being available. The wild will run into the same issue and have to leave one of Dumba or Brodin exposed. Carolina top dman prospect Jake Bean is another guy that could be left exposed. Benning really only has Juolevi to protect on the backend. I’m hoping he can find one of the guys a team doesn’t want to lose for nothing.

[Proposal] Cap Dumps and Finding Team Fits
flickyoursedin replied to Phil_314's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I’m pretty sure they need to pick up around 15-20 million just to get to the cap floor. Ottawa is probably a tough sell for high priced free agents. I mean anything is possible I guess but I just feel this team is still looking to add players like Eriksson. Loui Eriksson’s cap hit is terrible but he is a serviceable bottom 6 and penalty killer. For a team that isn’t too worried about the cap ceiling as much and more about saving $ and reaching the cap floor a player like Loui could be appealing. -
[Proposal] Cap Dumps and Finding Team Fits

I think Eriksson to Ottawa is a good possibility. The owner in Ottawa has been known for being cheap and not wanting to spend to the cap. They are a team that needs to add salary to hit the cap floor for next season. Eriksson is a player who has most of his money paid out. Meaning he comes at a 6 million on the cap for each of the next 2 years but really only needs to be paid 4 million for the next 2 years. -
The guy plays like an Alex Pietrangelo. Was actually his NHL comp on draft day. His all around play probably gives you at the very least a 2nd pairing dman if he doesn’t reach his full potential. With Boeser’s injury history and if we really are in a bad cap situation I wouldn’t mind this trade. We have Podkolzin and Hoglander as potential top 6 wingers with outside shots of Virtanen and Lind maybe developing into a top 6 role. If you want to wait for a sure thing then the price tag goes way up because dmen are much more valuable than wingers. Moot point anyway because Dobson is probably untouchable.

This 2020 draft has been touted as one of the stronger ones in the last couple years. First overall pick or not getting our pick back in the middle of the 1rst round would be very exciting. Noel Gunler, Connor Zary and Dylan Holloway sign me up! This draft I think could be very exciting for some fallers without a chance to raise their stock.
-
Obviously a good problem to have. If all guys pan out and you’re worried about salary or space you just enjoy the riches for as long as you can keep them together then trade pieces for things you need or high draft picks.

It’s just every other similar contract has the guy riding it out LTIR with no intention of coming back. Still finding a way to circumvent the cap. For whatever reasons injuries, upcoming role or time with family Lou has outright retired. Which leaves us as the only team being punished for something that was done before the rule was in place.
-
Hurt because there’s a recapture penalty by his retirement which hits us for over 3 mill on our cap for 2 more seasons. If he just went on LTIR it wouldn’t affect us in any way. I feel like the league screwed us over because I thought Luongo signed his deal before this recapture rule was brought in. I feel like we shouldn’t be penalized because there was no rule when we signed Lou.
