Weird situation where we didn’t make the playoffs because there wasn’t any playoffs. However if there were and if it was based off of a winning percentage we would have made the playoffs. However technically speaking there wasn’t any playoffs. I feel like they’ll give Vancouver the choice and if that’s the case I’d assume they elect to keep this years 1rst rounder as we already don’t have a 2nd round pick.

[Discussion] Where will Mikko Lehtonen Land?

Very impressive when a dman leads his team in points. Definitely a worthwhile flyer for sure. Here’s hoping we are in the mix on this guy. -
Canucks can only sign two of Toffoli, Tanev or Markstrom
flickyoursedin replied to Me_'s topic in Canucks Talk
This is gonna be Tanev’s last big contract which makes me think he won’t sign for less than 5x5. Which means you’d have an injury prone player at a high cost and term while he’s 32-37 years old. I love Tanev but injuries don’t get better with time and we need to save on some salary. Sign Toffoli and Markstrom. -
Safety just isn’t a premium position. The blindside hit rule on defenceless players makes it hard for safeties to actually thrive. I understand the rule change for player safety but it just makes the safety position very undervalued where teams feel they’d rather spend top picks on more important defensive positions like CB and Dline/pass rush.

I like Kinlaw a lot! Think he’s going to be a pro bowl caliber d tackle. I don’t like the trade up for Aiyuk. Could have stayed pat and potentially got him at their next pick or Higgins, Mims or Shenault Jr.

Arnette is a fine prospect just drafted too high. There was probably 3-5 better CB on the board. I guess anything is possible and who is to say Arnette doesn’t become a better NFL player but he’s just somebody I would have traded down for if he was my target.

I was surprised when they took Ruggs over Lamb and Jeudy. Then they surprise me with an even crazier reach on Arnette.

I think if he becomes anything close to Bieksa we should be extremely happy. Only about 30% of all 2nd round picks become NHL players and Bieksa was good enough for 10+ seasons in the NHL.

I agree Tanev will be hard to replace but his injury history which won’t get better over time makes me scared to commit big money over term. He’ll be 31 next year and will probably get a 5 to 6 year contract at what I think will be 5.25+ mill a year. Not sure I’d sign Tanev from 31-36/37 years of age.

I think they’ll try and replace Tanev’s spot in the top 4 with Tryamkin and hope that they can have one guy fill in for Stecher. I do think right now Juolevi is good enough to be in our top 6. I get why they left him down but come next year I think he plays at least half the season in the nhl. The battle in camp is Rafferty, Brisebois, Chatfield, Juolevi and Sautner. Listing those names I wouldn’t mind trying to shed Benn’s 2 million and having two of those guys make the team. Hughes Tryamkin Edler Rafferty/Juolevi Fantenberg Myers Brisebois

[Signing] Kings sign Tyler Madden

I think it takes the Eriksson contract to lock him up 6 million for 6 years. It’s longer than I’d like but I’d do it so it’s not 10 games of Toffoli for Madden and a 2nd round pick. -
Mikael Granlund, Erik Haula and Alex Tuch. All guys that are having a little bit down of a season so cost might be affordable. Granlund and Haula being free agents this coming offseason. If Benning can’t sign Toffoli I could see any of these guys being capable of putting up 50+ points on a line with Horvat.

New Jersey - Vancouver (Proposal)
flickyoursedin replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
It’s like the equivalent of say sending Winnipeg our pick if we had it 17th overall, Lind and Woo for Ehlers and Dylan Samberg. So they can have an extra 6 million in cap and pursue Toffoli if they want to. So it turns out to be 17th, Lind, Woo and Toffoli for Ehlers and Samberg. Or go to Philly and send them the package of 17th, Lind, Woo and the cap space to spend for Toffoli for Konecny and Cam York. It would be nice to keep all the players you are saying but Juolevi, Rafferty and hopefully Tryamkin could be additions on the backend next year so you save money on Tanev and Stechers departures. Then the next year we have Sutter, Baertschi and Benn off the books which sheds like 10 mill and the year after that Eriksson which frees up 6. If we can lose those contracts early that’s awesome! However if we really need to trim a little bit of cash paying small prices to shed Benn or Beartschi should be the play and keep both Boeser and Toffoli. -

Well for me I still see value in Juolevi. He needs to get his body right but I still think he can become a top 4 dman in the NHL. So I value Juolevi>Bahl or at least the same value. Sure Bahl is a big and steady guy but he’s no sure thing himself. So now in my mind you’re saying Boeser for the 17th overall and Foote (whom I value as a future 3rd line winger). Boeser isn’t a cap dump he’s a good player. I just think we can clear cap in a different way or find better prospects then getting a handful of okay stuff. -

I wouldn’t include Toffoli as value going back as he’s not signed by zona. Just we’d have the cap space to sign him. So when I look at it like Boeser and Juolevi for the 17th pick, Foote and Bahl (fine prospects but I see them both as limited offensively) which I don’t like. I see Foote as a bottom 6 and Bahl as a 2nd pairing stay at home dman. Makes me feel like we’re trading the quality for quantity. We have way to much quantity. -
(Discussion) Rathbone to NYR
flickyoursedin replied to kenhodgejr's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I’d do this for sure! Really wanted Benning to trade up from our 2nd to a late 1rst in his draft year. K’Andre Miller switched to defence around 17 years old. Felt like as he went further along he’d only learn the new position at a higher rate because he had so much more to learn and get better. -
[Signing] Canucks sign William Lockwood
flickyoursedin replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I’m happy they got Lockwood signed. I know a lot of people were saying don’t waste the contract as his stats have been underwhelming. Lockwood has good traits and plays the right way. Kids got speed, grit and can show silky mitts. Irregardless of low production I always wanted to sign this guy and see if his game can translate in the next level! Really you don’t lose anything by giving him a shot! -
As he’s 25 now maybe he’s thinking more about joining a team closer to winning. Don’t think all star talent but a guy like Carl Soderberg had similar stats and he came over at 26 or 27. You’d be crazy looking back and saying you wouldn’t sign Soderberg. Give a guy a shot at a cheap rate for his first couple years. Really if there’s contract room free stuff is never a bad thing.
-
I would never say zero chance. Could look silly if it happens lol. It’s obviously a possibility and if there’s contract room free players/prospects are always a good thing. The guy is a little bit older to my liking of a target when you also factor in his production. Maybe Benning sees a guy that can play up to talent on his line and a guy that right now might be held back a bit by the players he’s currently with. Maybe he sees solid 3rd line potential. A free player that wants to be here for cheap which gives him the opportunity to trade a guy on the team for picks.
