Play physical and make simple passes.

If Myers could master that he’d actually be effective.

Yeah, I was actually thinking it would be ‘something’ in a positive light. Despite being over paid for what he is, Myers on the bottom pairing would likely be a pretty big headache for opposing teams. Especially partnered with Soucey.

If the Canucks could pull something like that off our blueline would be completely remodeled in a few months time

    hughes-peeke

    cole-hronek

    soucy-Myers

    irwin-juulsen

peeke has holes in his game just like everyone other dman who’s ever played the game but I truly believe hughes could elevate his game…look how good he made juulsen look :P

Soucy-Myers as a third pairing would be something lol

Cole is a 6th dman at best on a contending team.  If youre expecting him to be a top pair dman youre already admitting yourself this team isnt good enough.

I dont need to make excuses-  the fans here do a good enough of job of it when we miss out every year.

The team as it stands isnt good enough to win over the course of an 82 game schedule nor does it have the quality depth needed to withstand injuries to key players.

Cole was 80th in the league for time on ice last year among defenceman… I’ll let you do the math on whether that makes him a #6 :picard:

Another article from the Detroit media from back in November ...

Quiet Hronek Quietly Playing Sensationally For Red Wings

    https://detroithockeynow.com/2022/11/25/quietly-hronek-quietly-playing-sensationally-for-red-wings/

With a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s 3-0 victory, Hronek ran his tally to five goals over Detroit’s last five games. Hronek became the first Detroit defenseman with five goals in a five-game span since Lidstrom from Dec. 15-23, 2010. He’s riding a five-game point streak (5-2-7).

Only five NHL defensemen have more goals than Hronek this season. Just 10 rearguards have accumulated more points. With 16 points in 18 games, Hronek is currently on a 73-point pace.

"I think he’s been awesome all season,” defense partner Olli Maatta said. “Happy to see he’s getting pucks going in for him, too. I know it means a lot but at the same time he’s doing a lot of great things off the puck, too.

    -------

And ... as always ... you KNOW you want to feel it. You know you can feel it. Let it flow through you. Turn that frown upside down.

    Happy Hronek, everyone!!!

Did you mean happy Hroneka?

  5. Over the course of his 6 year career he’s recovered from a broken back, watched his dad suffer and then die (not just being sick but losing his mind in the process) and still managed to be a borderline 30 goal scorer.

It wouldn’t surprise me if what we see from Brock is what we get moving forward, but the idea that he might not have more to give is silly given what he’s been through.

We have one of the weakest defense in the league and have been searching for top 4 RHD for 10 years, he’s not a 4 on a lot of team, otherwise he would be a 4 for us.

    at best he’s a 6.

You're entitled to that opinion. Facts would say otherwise. He was 3rd in TOI on our team last year (and that is with Hronek at #2.... so an argument could be that he was actually our number #2 guy most of the year). It gets better though... #74 in TOI league wide.  Simple math would say there are 128 top 4 defencemen in the league... I'll let you figure out where that puts him.

Seriously if he’s worth a 1st at deadline, he would have good value right now and be gone already, so I think you’re over optimistic here

his season salary might be only 1M after bonus, but cap hit is still 6M.   So your depth argument is pointless unless a Canucks retain.  Contending team won’t have capspace for him as depth

I think anyone suggesting he might be worth a first at the deadline is assuming the Canucks would retain.

despite his deficits, he’s still a #4/5 guy on a lot of teams. That, the fact he’s a righty and the fact he’s a freaking giant could be pretty attractive to a team that’s looking to make some noise in the playoffs…and we know teams have more of a penchant to pay up at the trade deadline than other times of the year.
