A couple of more loses and management should switch directions. Starting planning for next year. Pearson, Sutter, Jake and any one who is not part of the long term plans should be moved. If possible, for picks . Bring up Lind and Gad. Take the rest of this year to continue to develop. Bring them in and PLAY them. Play OJ.

I see people are back at the cliff again. I bet you that if you were told in 2015 that you would see a solid young core of players by 2021. You would all have thought that that was acceptable. Not a cup contender. Just a group worth building around. That group of players is here. Now finish the rebuild. How many years did it take them to build around the twins? We could use another real good draft.

Safe to say Hughes is on the same level as Dahlin now?

Hughes and Maker I think it is these two who will be on top of the league for the next few years. I do not feel Dahlin is at the same level . As a home it is Hughes all the way . -
Win against the right team. If you are chasing Calgary and Edmonton for the last playoff spot . Then every game against them is a 4 pointer. So ya.

This is such an odd year. Every game is 4 points. A team loses a bunch and your way behind. Go on a run and you are back in the hunt.

Yes. They have been drafting quit well. There has been some glaring misses though. Lots of high picks though. That helps. -

Do we have 14 drafted players on the club. Or will we have? Too early to tell for the last two years. -

Some quick research shows that around 60 players per draft become nhl players. Averaged over a ten year period. Every draft would be different. -

Jim's drafted players who have played nhl games. Demko OJ Boeser Chatfield Gaudette Virtanen Tryamkin Petey Hughes Hoglander We expect Pod and there are still a few perking in the system. ( Lind) There have been a player or two traded that has played or will. (McCann) -

Lots of people are suggesting that the rebuild is over. How many think it is over? How many years do you think a rebuild should take? ( starting with Bo) Keep in mind that most teams get two NHL player per year through the draft. That is an average. ( Not star players. A mix) -

You are too focused on plus minus . You are not paying attention to the reality of his deployment. As the teams goes Hughes goes . When the team is struggling to execute Hughes is put into more high risk situations. Higher risk plays come with more force turn overs. When the club is having to play catch up then he will be playing a much high risk game. When playing with a lead then his game changes dramatically. As this clubs structure and depth improves then Hughes will be able to settle into his game. Dose he have room for improvement. He is kid in a mans game. So of coarse. -

This nonsense about Hughes struggling this year comes from people who are just driving negativity. He is an offensive specialist. His game is backed on mobility and puck control. He will never have the physical capabilities to win battles along the boards. His plus minus are a dirrect mirror of the teams struggles this year. The club has been playing catch up all year. So who is on the ice taking risks to try and engineer a come back? Hughes Yes the kid has made some mistakes this year but in most cases it is because he is trying to do too much. You put this kid on a deep club and he will be a super star . -

I think people forget that they didn't start 7 years back . The first few years they were still trying to prop the old broken down team up. We had some high picks through those years but only because that group were beyond saving. Horvat is really the only player remaining from that group. Players who were here when Jim arrived. The organization had been so depleted from trying to win with that core that there was nothing remaining to move forward with. Other than Bo. This club was in worse shape then some of the older expansion teams . They had scraps when they came into the league. You can't rebuild an entire organization from scratch in 4 to 5 years. We had nothing at the nhl level and our minor league system was none existent. The cupboards were bare. I hope the owner learns from those mistakes and allows a progressive retooling year after year, moving forward. In this cap area you need to continually be adding a player or two from within . You need to build your NHL club and continue to development players in your system. Retooling should never stop. -

So they are still looking to add a president. That is interesting. Maybe someone who is good at cap management and contracts. Maybe someone with experience this time? A proven track record. OK , let's not get carried away. -

Should be would be could be but it is not. Rebuilding a team from scratch dosen't come with a set time line . Too many variables. We should all be happy that we are seeing promising progress. -

I fully agree that cap management has been very poor. Have more cap space this year would have allowed them to add this year instead of regressing a bit. Here is a thought to mull over. If you look at the contract structure we see that next year clears up a chunk of space and then the year after all of the suspect deals are gone. Jim has said that they plan years ahead . So , what if the team is actually ahead of what they had planned for. Players like Hughes and Petey hit the ground running. Rebuilding the core of your club is not a small task. -

It was good to have the owner clear the air. There is a lot of truth in what he said about this year. Rushing to make changes would solve nothing. The building of this team is only half done and a high draft position this year could be a good thing.
