  1. You seem to have a reading comprehension problem. Any time you are are signing UFA's you are paying a premium. That is why you need to have young players coming in through your system. Jim has not found much of substance for our defense. You need to have players on entry level or bridge deals to keep your costs down. You then can sign a player or two to fill holes. They are having to build their entire D core with UFA's and thus the costs go up big time. Edler is over paid also. You can't have 4 to 5 D at 6 mil. A player like Hoglander gives you 3 years of controlled costs. Hughes for 3 years. Where are those 2,3,4 or 5 defensemen who are under controlled costs. Vegas has 21 mil in their D.
  2. Well, if you are happy with this defense then yes Meyers is the only one of consequence. He IS a bit over paid. Are you happy with this D? If you are not then that means they will be going back to the UFA market. Unless they can make a trade . The point is quite clear. If you are not build your D through the draft then you will be over paying to bring in UFA's.
  3. Building a defense with UFA's. This will always cost you more then when you build from within. Benning has not been able to find top four defense other then Hughes from the draft. OJ was supposed to be that and at this point he is not. Meyer is a 3/4 D man and should be around 4 to 5 mil. He should be playing around 18 minutes per game. Right now he is trying to do too much. If they had a real solid defensive partner to put him worth he would be fine. He is not a shut down guy. I hope they bring back Tryamkin and find a solid top 2 guy in this years draft.
  4. If we end up selecting top ten this year there is a lot of defensive prospects. It is our weakness. Maybe a solid goal tender at this years draft.
  5. Jake had a solid season last year. He always starts slow. If I was the Oilers I would see what we could get done. He could b a good fit on one of their top lines. He has the quickness to keep up and is solid defensively. With the right line mates he will score twenty a year. It just isn't working here. Jim will not get more than a second or a prospect.
  6. The funny part of all of this is that if management had of come out 4 years back and said "We Are In A Rebuild". If they had of laid out a clear plan on their process moving forward. Right now we would just be in another stage of said rebuild. They would never admit it. They kept saying that they weren't rebuilding. People expected more and have felt that Jim has been retooling for 7 years. The truth is that they started a rebuild a few years back. Up until that point they were still trying to win every year. This process stopped them from doing a full blown rebuild where they try to accumulate as many young assets as possible to kick things off. LE was part of the first faze where they were trying to win each year. The first three years of Jims tenor. Beagle ,Sutter and Roussel were brought in to work with the influx of youth. Lets say it was the beginning of the rebuild. Even their cap structure shows that they figured that they would need those guys through the end of next year .Next year cap opens up to allow the signing of some young talent. The year after there is more space that will allow them to start to add the final pieces. If you look at things this way you could actually say that we are four years into a complete rebuild . One where you are starting from scratch and putting together a core that you will build around for years to come. If you can get your mind around that then you could also reason that we are right on target. I think there is still the next two years to acquire a few missing pieces. A solid draft this year would be a good start. This young core has now been tasked with the job of building their own identity . Finding a new leadership group that is going to lead them for years to come. Right now they are struggling to find their way. Maybe Bo is not the guy for the job. As this club finds it's way out of the funk that they are in we will get to see who it is that leads them. This is going to be a rough year but it could teach them a ton about themselves . Prepare them for the future. I wish the owners and management would come out and lay out their plans moving forward. The may feel that they are right on target.
  7. Miller doesn't have any trade clauses so the first can be regained in couple of years. If they need to.
  8. I think the problem started before the season. It started from the managements lack of ability to improve the team. The players came into the year, after a strong playoff run feeling let down. Plus they have come to a weaker roster that is missing some very important leadership. They will now have to find trust in one another and build their own identity. Learn to rely on one another. This may take a while.
  9. The Canucks are in their own heads. This game is 50% mental. I think they will come out of it. The only problem is that the season is so short. The other big issue this year is that you are playing the same team for little mini series. When you see the same team for 3 games straight it makes it more difficult to come out of it. There is no weaker teams to help you out of a slump.
  10. Green is right when said that our guy are one step behind. They are not moving their feet.
