[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

I'm well aware of that. Would rather trade Boeser than Horvat... and I love Boeser. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Nave replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I find all the talk of Horvat having a bad season--and losing leadership duties to Miller--kind of ridiculous. He's having just a good season as always. Winning 55% of his draws, while scoring 20+ goals (he's already at 18). At this point, we shouldn't expect Horvat to be a Selke candidate. He's a good two way forward who plays meaningful minutes. What's wrong with having 3 good centers? A lot of teams would kill to have our center depth. Maybe Miller gets the C at the end of the season. I don't think Horvat would be too hurt by that. He's a big part of our leadership group, and will remain so. -

Yeah, we're not trading JT Miller. -
Because detractors hated the OEL contract. He's played well this season, and is a leader on the team. We can revisit this trade down the road. I agree with you. But every GM makes mistakes. He showed that he was able to recognize that, and try to rectify them. I'm not saying that his mistakes didn't cost him. In fact, that is the opposite of what I'm saying.

When the trade happened, some people were calling it a genius move. He dumped our 3 worst contracts, and got 2 positive contributors back. When our season torpedoed in the beginning, OEL and Garland seemed like the only guys who were trying. They've continued playing well, and were part of us righting the ship. Our slow start was because of an underperforming core, not because of these guys. If we make the playoffs, I don't want to hear people complain about this trade.

Benning did what he had to do to try and save his job. If he kept Loui, Beagle, and Roussel on the books, he would have been fired. It's easy for us to say he should have waited one more year, but ownership was not that patient. Dumping those 3 for OEL and Garland was a savvy move. Both of those players have played well since joining us. Obviously, if we did not do that, we would have tanked and ended up with a better draft pick; but instead we have a team that could make the playoffs. I'll take that. It's not really the year to tank. It's a deep draft with an undefined top 3 with no generational talents. Obviously, Benning was fired anyway, but we should at least understand where he was coming from. His one mistake was trusting Green.

[Signing] Kraken re-sign Jared McCann

Good for him. -
[Waivers] Olli Juolevi (claimed by Red Wings)
Nave replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I hope he does well with Detroit. -
Thank you. I'm getting tired of the same old Zacha + Bahl proposals (although I understand why they're floating around). Would rather get Shakir Mukhamadullin than Bahl. Holtz or Mercer would be amazing if we could make it work. Boeser could be absolute dynamite with Jack Hughes. If the Devils want him, they'll have to pay up!

Such sad news. I sincerely hope that it hasn't affected his performance for too long, because early diagnosis is so important for the prognosis. Certainly throws his draft status in the first round in the air, but a team could be getting the highest potential player in the draft beyond that.

Halak was horrible this game. There's no point in defending him. We had more shots, more hits, and half the giveaways. This game is on Halak not being able to stop a beachball. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Yeah, I don't think we should trade Miller anymore. He's too important to our PP, too important to our PK, and too important for our team as a whole. -

So when a team wears black jerseys *reviews notes* they, err, get penalized more. -
[Speculation] Canucks exploring Tyler Myers trade
Nave replied to brian42's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
We are not retaining in a trade around Tyler Myers. We'd be creating a hole we have to fill--it makes no sense to retain. -

Myers will be 34 when his contract ends. He might decline by then. Although he has been good for us this season, it might be wise to trade him now for cap flexibility. If we make the playoffs it sure would be nice to have him--but other teams are probably thinking the same thing. -

Honestly, I think Myers has been our 2nd best defenseman this season. Maybe 3rd best behind OEL. Not really interested in trading him unless we have to make room for a great player. Given that, we don't want to retain salary. -

Would love him on the Canucks, but we can't really go for a rental. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Nave replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It's funny you mention the PP--the Leafs have the 1st ranked PP with him running it. He's a playmaker first, but I just checked his stats and he has 4 PPG this season alone. Toronto also has the 6th ranked PK with him playing an average of 2:00 short-handed minutes a night. A lot of young players are wary of contract, but at least he's not a player who plays with his head down. He has the uncanny ability to make a play while absorbing contact. If you don't believe me watch his highlights. With all the talk of him disappearing in the playoffs, he still puts up points. It's kind of a moot point anyway--the trade probably won't happen. Marner is a fan favourite. If anything, the trade chatter with Toronto targeting Miller will just make Drury raise his offer. -

He's small, yeah, but I don't think he's as soft as people are saying. He plays on the PK and blocks shots. -

lol. To be clear, I think Miller probably shouldn't be traded. But Marner with salary retained is a move I would do. Think about it this way, if Miller wants around $9M, is Marner at $8.75M so bad? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Nave replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm starting to warm up to the idea of trading Miller for Marner. He's only 24 years old, and already has a 94 point season. He's never scored less than 61 points in a season, and Miller never exceeded that until he was 27. For all the talk of him being soft and disappearing in the playoffs, he's great on the penalty kill and is almost a point per game in the postseason. We would be getting younger, and bringing in a top line RWer who can play with Pettersson or Horvat. We could offload Poolman, and Toronto would get a RHD which they need. Miller + Poolman for Marner (20% retained)
