  1. I think we should at least see how Hronek would do with Hughes.
  2. Michkov is the only winger I'm interested in (in terms of a fit with the Canucks). If he drops to us, throw need out the window and get BPA.
  3. Even if we play well, I don't see us picking any lower than 10. I don't see the Capitals and Sabres just rolling over to die. That's a realistic trade though.
  4. I don't see Michkov dropping past the top 5 picks. Russian status notwithstanding.
  5. Although I still have hope for Lekkerimaki, it hurts to know we could have traded back and got Lambert.
  6. We face Western Conference teams for the rest of our games. Almost every game has implications for where we'll draft. We are 17-12-3 against the Western Conference this year. In comparison, we are 9-20-2 versus the Eastern Conference. I expect us to win the majority of our games for the rest of the season, and end up picking 10th overall unless we get some luck in the lottery. Detroit did not just sell at the trade deadline--they gave us a player in Hronek who can help us pass them in the standings. On the plus side, having Hronek will balance our pairings out a bit, so we don't have to play Hughes 30 mins a game. We need to focus the rest of our season on playing our young guys more, and assessing where they are in their development.
  7. Glad that Silovs looks like a good goalie with a bright future. However, we are playing our way out of getting a guy like Will Smith or Matvei Michkov.
  8. One thing about the Hronek trade is that it sets us up to draft a center. I'm not sold on any of the defensemen that will be around for our 1st pick, and it looks like one of the best center drafts in recent memory.
  9. I find it funny people are saying management has no direction, when they've been doing exactly what they said they'd be doing.
  10. He stood with Boudreau for his last game. I think he was the last person to quit on Boudreau
  11. I have mixed feelings about this trade. We potentially got our partner for Hughes, but losing those draft picks hurts. However, I'm leaning towards positive. Hronek is a proven top 4 D. People are acting like he's only had one good season but--with the possible exception of 2020-2021--he's been good offensively his whole career. Where he has really improved is his defensive play, as he has great underlying numbers this season. "He's having an outlier season," but then again, so was Horvat. We basically flipped Horvat and a 2nd for Hronek, Beauvillier, Raty, and a 4th. When you consider how hard it is to acquire top 4 RHD, that's pretty good. NYI wouldn't give us Dobson, so we pivoted and got Hronek. If you believe Allvin, Hronek is a top 2 defenseman... and maybe on the Canucks he is. On Detroit, he was second to Seider in TOI/GP; tied for second in points; and for all the talk about his career +/-, he was the only player in the top 5 with a + rating. He was also second in power play points, despite only playing on the 1st unit for ~35% of the season. That's where I think he'll get more opportunity on the Canucks. He may not play with Hughes even strength, but having both on the 1st unit PP might be a good look. The biggest problem with our defense besides... well--defense--has been scoring from the back end. Hronek has scored 9 goals twice in his 5 year career, including this season already... in the past 10 years we've only had two 9+ goal scorers (Yannick Weber in 2014-15 and Alex Edler in 2018-19). However, I'm nervous about that NYI 1st round draft pick, and see how it's really valuable for Detroit. Between the Islanders and Redwings in the league standings, I could see all 6 teams passing the Islanders before the end of the year. Detroit could conceivably have picks back to back when the draft comes around. With Barzal injured, the Islanders could plummet even more, and defer the draft pick to '24, but do even worse next year. Adding the 2nd is frustrating, but I'm kind of annoyed by people saying it's a "Benning move," because Benning never got a RHD as good as Hronek. Not even close. All in all, this could be a win-win trade--and that could be why fans are split down the middle.
  12. Hate that we won, but glad that Demko is back. This is such a frustrating team.
  13. Which makes the '25 1st even more troubling. Lightning aren't even top 4 in the East this year. What makes them think they'll do better in '24-25?
  14. Suddenly looks like a seller's market with the Jeannot trade.
  15. I really don't want Kotkaniemi. Would rather just keep Miller.
  16. As a Devils' fan, I love this trade. Sets them up for a serious run in the playoffs, and they didn't sacrifice their future. Didn't trade Nemec; didn't trade Holtz. I like Mukhamadullin, and wanted the Canucks to trade for him over Bahl, but their defense is getting crowded already. Nemec is much more valuable. I think those 1st's will be late 1st's. And if not, then one will be a 2nd. Sharks went for quantity--we got quality for Bo.
