  1. Might be more likely Mittelstadt will fall to 5 now.
  2. Tanev is only 27. I don't see us trading him, considering how much better our PK is with him. I think we stay put at #5 and pick Glass, Mittelstadt, or Vilardi; whoever falls.
  3. He has unreal speed. If he uses that conscientiously on the forecheck and backcheck he could be a Grade A puckhound. A lot of the time he'd put the defense on their heels, but there was just no teammate to back him up. He gains the zone so quickly. Could be a unique brand of powerforward if he has the right support. Was hoping to see some hits though.
  4. That's the exact line I was thinking of.
  5. That's not true. He has very good speed, and NHL level shot, and rare hitting ability. He'll develop into a solid NHL player. The guy is only 20.
  6. It might be unlikely that he's top six but saying he's unlikely to be an NHLer is jus not true.
  7. We gotta be patient with Virtanen. He's got all the tools, just not the toolbox. Benning and Linden seemed encouraged by his progress in Utica. One more season down there would do him good, but I wouldn't be surprised if he made the big club next season.
  8. Where's Sutter? I think having him could be more valuable than ever when bringing in a young center like Hischier or Patrick, because he provides a shutdown center or a shooting right winger who can take faceoffs, the latter of which can help shelter a rookie. We could try: Baertschi Horvat Boeser Sedin Sedin Eriksson Granlund Patrick/Hischier Goldobin Gaunce Sutter Virtanen Or Baertschi Horvat Boeser Sedin Sedin Eriksson Granlund Patrick/Hischier Sutter Virtanen Gaunce Goldobin
  9. If we draft a center (which is very likely), we could have Sutter play RW and take face offs for them. That'd be a great way to shelter them. Or, we could have great center depth through all four lines.
  10. I think Patrick is more of a Benning pick than Hischier, because of his ability to score on the rush from the short side. He has a quick release to go with good skating and size. While Patrick has dealt with injury issues Hischier was a relative unknown until the past year. So, it could be said that Patrick has proven more even with his injury history. Still, I really like Hischier, especially the way he cuts inside with his amazing stickhandling... I might actually prefer Hischier.
  11. My hope is that Canucks draft #1 and Devils draft #2, so my two favourite teams get Patrick or Hischier.

    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

For someone who isn't flashy he can sure snipe the puck.
  13. I'd understand comparing Virtanen to Nylander if they were remotely the same player. Virtanen cannot pass or deke like Nylander and Nylander cannot hit like Virtanen. They are two completely different players. As a North-South player, Virtanen has a lot of potential, and those are the kind of players Benning is compiling. His ability to score on the rush is there - he just has to do it more consistently - and it seems he does it more on the left side. People say he's "lost a year of development" being rushed to the NHL, but he probably learned more on the Canucks than he would have in Junior.
  14. That's how I'm looking at it. Which is why I don't mind the term in the Eriksson deal.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

I remember Rodin having the style to play in North America, but after his shoulder injury he shied away from it. His production since returning to Sweden is very encouraging. Now that he's here, hopefully he surprises.
  16. Yeah but Benning and Linden have been saying all along that they want to surround youth with experience. That's what they're doing, so I don't see the issue. Eriksson has proven chemistry with the Sedins, and he's really good at cycling, which suits our team overall.
  17. Yeah lol. He was easily one of the best things about last year. I'm not worried about him at all, but we still need to get another quality left winger so we can support him. I think Virtanen sticks as a right winger, and would play well with either Horvat or Baer (together or separately). Although it might be wise to send him to the minors, I think he's determined to take another step next year.
  18. Eriksson was considered by some the most underrated player in the league in his Dallas days; and he just scored 30 goals, the second most he's had in a season (behind 36 in 2008-09). He could be a big boon for us. Don't know what TSN was thinking when they were like "what are the Canucks doing?" after we got Loui.

I think we should send him to the London Knights, to play a more significant role. His time on ice climbed as he became acclimated to the smaller ice surfaces. Then he played a lot of minutes during the Memorial Cup and OHL playoffs. It's likely he would be the go-to-guy on a game-to-game basis.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

So would Rodin and Virtanen. The latter of whom can make room for the former. I think if they are serious about keeping Horvat with defensive wingers this is the line up: Sedin Sedin Eriksson Virtanen Sutter Rodin Burrows Horvat Hansen Baertschi Granlund Etem Dorsett, Gaunce That's a good shut down 3rd line. Virtanen and Baertschi could both play with Rodin, but I think Hansen is also more comfortable on the right so I don't see em playing together.
  21. Virtanen is one of the biggest hitters I ever have seen at this age. If he progresses well he has a high ceiling as a disruptive player who puts up 20+ goals a season. Going to Utica may be the best way for him to reach that potential, and that's fine. His first NHL season was a mixed bag, but most rookies make rookie mistakes.

Not having a good puck moving defenseman was always our biggest problem, but it's not anymore.
  23. I think Juolevi would be great with Gudbranson, but Hutton shoots left too. That bodes well for us. Juolevi wants to make it out of camp, so we'll see what happens. He'll probably go back to Junior for more seasoning, as he just won a Memorial Cup after turning 18. So happy we have Gudbranson.

I still think Tkachuk was more important for the London Knights' Memorial Cup and playoff run, but Olli was indispensable for both the Knights and Finland's World Junior team. I think he gained something like 9 pounds of lean muscle during the season--that's not easy. I was also not aware that he could play in the AHL right away, despite only being 18. These are all things that are making me more optimistic about the pick.
  25. I think we owe it to Burr to let him play out his contract. He became an fan favourite, starred with the Sedins, and slayed the dragon. Keeping him would allow us to have Virtanen and Gaunce in Utica, where they could develop chemistry for the future. And, we could retain him at a cheaper price, for his leadership; if he doesn't retire. I wouldn't be surprised if he went out on a high note in Vancouver. Sedin Sedin Hansen Lucic Sutter Brouwer Baertschi Horvat Rodin Etem Granlund Burrows Gaunce and Virtanen in Utica Problem is, we might not have enough cap for both Brouwer and Burrows. That line up looks beautiful, but necessitates trading Dorsett. Maybe just getting Eriksson would be the way to go.
