  1. That was a snipe. We got some good shooters now.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

I was thinking he should go down but after seeing how well he played with Weber I hope he makes the team. Young guys forcing some difficult decisions.
  3. He kind of floats, but only a bit. You can see that his head is on a swivel to see if there's someone uncovered on the rush. It's kind of jarring to see such a fast guy slow down that much, but he can explode and throw a check out of nowhere; if anything, it's nice he saves his energy. When they shoot he almost always goes to the front of the net to block a shot off a potential rebound. He's raw, but man, he has some tantalizing skills.
  4. That's cause he's not a dirty hitter. He never lifts his feet or hits in the #s
  5. I think Virt has the release to play with the Sedins. He's practiced with them so he may be more comfortable wit them than we think. As far as people making the team, I think Gaunce is a lock.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I really like Gaunce next to Bo. Helps that he can play centre or wing on the 4th line and penalty kill. That switch may have been the best thing for his career, making him a more versatile player. Out of all our prospects, him making the team makes the most sense--but I hope we move some guys so others can make it as well.
  7. That release is sick. His positioning could better, but he's smart in terms of when to hit and when not to. Doesn't hit in the numbers or get caught behind the play after one. More a question of knowing where to be.
  8. Nylander and Grabner don't even play alike.
  9. Virtanen with Sutter certainly sounds like an good option, but I liked the Baertschi-Sutter-Vrbata line. Maybe it will be down to Gaunce-Horvat-Hansen or Virtanen-Sutter-Vrbata/Hansen. I don't think Gaunce and Virtanen will both make the team, as it looks like Baertschi has a spot locked up. However, Baertschi seemed to have good chemistry with Vrbata, and Horvat could also slot in between the two. In that case, Hansen could play with Virtanen and Sutter to form a fearsome forechecking line. But Gaunce-Horvat seems pretty appealing...

The only thing I don't like about Kuzma's line up is Virtanen being an extra. Gaunce with Horvat sounds good though.
  11. Yeah Datsyuk when he was coming out

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

His time in Chicago was terrible for him. Became tentative around the puck, and diverged from his true style of play. In Utica, I think he'd do a lot better. Hopefully he wants to come back, but I understand why he'd stay there wit the contract he has.

Since he's been healthy and productive, I'd like to bring him back. Always liked Rodin.

He's not very quick, but moves his feet in a measured way so he's not out of position. His long stride is fine, but he could speed up those quick movements needed for acceleration. Mogilny was faster than Bure at top speed, but Bure could get to top speed in two steps. It's the latter Gaunce needs to improve on.

Kind of reminds me of games with my friend (whatever sport)--I'm very competitive, and a pretty fast runner, but he angles me out in a way that forces me to keep running in circles, and when we both run in a straight line, he shows he can keep up wit me. Gaunce showed some surprising speed on the forecheck. Crept up to unsuspecting defenders. Derp is right in saying he read this 3 years ago (I shadowed these forums myself), but I think its more true now that he has worked on his speed a bit. Even though he has improved, he still plays a positional game. Sticks to his guns.

Gaunce's top speed is not that bad. It's just his acceleration that needs improvement, and his first step has gotten better. He's also fairly physical, and good at protecting the puck. He doesn't get caught out of position very often, and is hard to play against.

I think Virtanen and Gaunce could both be on the team if injuries struck, but that would require Gaunce going to Utica 1st. Gaunce could be very useful on the penalty kill, and in the bottom 6, which may give him the edge over Virtanen.
  18. Yeah he's not perimeter - much more tenacious than I was expected. Surprising since it looks like he's barely hit puberty. Benning might have gotten a gem here.
  19. When I was watching I was like, "77 is actually a dope number."
  20. Virtanen played better than Ehlers in that game. Even when he's not scoring, he's a force. Although he needs capitalize more, he drives to the net with speed and authority. I think one more year in junior may benefit him offensively; he is ready physically.

I've noticed more and more people spelling it like "guance" lol
  22. Looks like Benning quietly had a very good draft. 'Quietly' might not be the best word, considering the controversy
  23. That's actually a good point. Couldn't really see how he'd fit in the line up but if he's put with Virt that could work.
  24. Maybe McCann could be that guy. We're not tanking.
