WWE Wrestler Kevin Owens Surprises Bruce Boudreau During NHL Draft
Nave replied to fivethej's topic in Canucks Talk
Bruce there it is! Most entertaining coach in sports entertainment! Kevin Owens is awesome. I respect what he did for Stone Cold at Wrestlemania. Put on one hell of a match. -
Happy with this pick. Like many, I was hoping for a center or defenseman, but we're lucky he fell to us. There seemed to be a real bias towards those positions in this draft, but it doesn't seem like Allvin and co are complaining about that. Someone said that he's the youngest player who was drafted in the first round--that leaves a lot of time to get bigger and improve on skating. I'm not getting where those skating criticisms are coming from though. He seems to be a smooth skater who can turn on the jets for a breakaway. Like some others have said, maybe those scouts saw him when he was recovering from mono.

I said last night trading up for Nemec was my dream scenario, but I'd really like Jiricek too. He was playing really well around the time of his knee injury. I like that he tries to be physical--that bodes well for his projectability when he fills out.

I'd be pretty happy with Mintyukov. Has a lot of potential. Of the Russians he seems to be the safest because he played in the OHL last season.
-
I think he'll go to the Islanders at 13, because his uncle is their head coach, and their head scout is Scandinavian. But, if they don't take him, he could fall in the draft. We could feasibly trade down and still get him. Part of me wants to just swing for the fences and take him, but there are guys I probably wouldn't take at 15, but would be happy with getting if we trade down, like Pickering and Bischel. So, we could trade down targeting a group of players, including Lambert.

I'm starting to really like the idea of drafting Brad Lambert. It's unbelievable how fast he can skate with the puck on his blade. I think switching teams was bad for him, because he was used as a winger rather than center and the system didn't really suit him, not to mention people started questioning his character. He makes some really heady plays, but sometimes tries to do too much rather than making the simple play--that can be coached. We literally didn't have any right handed centers last year, and although that can be fixed through trade or free agency, I still think it's good to draft one. My dream scenario is trading up for Nemec though.

I feel like all the guys I want are out of reach at 15. I hope we trade up or down.
-
I hope Slafkovsky drops to 2, so the Devils can take him, or trade with the Canucks so we can take him.

Which JT Miller Deal would you prefer?
Nave replied to BCNate's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Voted for the Devils' package, because I'm familiar with those players, and the pick is nice. But, I didn't really notice the LA one, and I think Turcotte would fit well with us. Good poll. -
[Proposal] [Trade] Hughes to the Devils
Nave replied to Timråfan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Trading Quinn Hughes is literally the dumbest thing we could do. -

That was a frustrating game. Was waiting for Pettersson to be put with better linemates, as he was one of our only forwards who was creating. Demko was great, but left the five hole way too open on the shorthanded goal. So many passes for scoring opportunities went over players' sticks. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Brandon Scanlin

Seems like a great free prospect. I hope we get him. -
I agree. Would rather sign Boeser long term than act one one of those underwhelming proposals offered for him. He's having a down year by his standards, but he'll bounce back.

I'm just saying. It's not like they beat us by multiple goals. They beat us by 1 cause of an early whistle. We had a slow start, but the Lightning lost their legs in the 2nd. Vasilevskiy came up huge, but the refs certainly helped them. -

We have the right to be pissed. You don't have to be a tool about it. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in John Marino

I'd like Marino on the Canucks, but I hate the deals being proposed for him. -

Man the refs were brutal tonight... Take the point and run. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Nave replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It might be wise to wait until the off-season. See what this team can do in a playoff push. -
It's good to have a calm leader. Horvat showed tremendous leadership in the bubble, particularly against the defending champs. I don't think he has a big enough ego to not share leadership with JT, and the rest of our leadership team. Our center depth, as it is, has the potential to be one of the best in the league. We shouldn't throw that away. Championship teams are built down the middle. Boeser has a lot of potential as a goal scorer, but he's not the best skater. Allvin and Rutherford have stated their intentions to build a faster team clearly. Given the cap situation we're in, and his $7.5M qualifying offer, Boeser seems to be the odd man out.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Nave replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Boeser is definitely a better player than people give him credit for. Other teams see this too. He has a quick release, and is good at finding open space to unleash it. Problem is, he doesn't always have the speed to gain separation. Allvin and Rutherford have stated their intentions to make us a faster team clearly. It sucks cause Boeser is having a down season, which might mean we're selling low, but Horvat is cost controlled for another year and more consistent. A trade with New Jersey or Pittsburgh makes sense, because they have playmakers who can get the puck to Boeser, and may be willing to pay more because of that.
