  1. Gaudette displayed some good instincts positioning himself at the right place at the right time to be a threat. Most impressed by Miller. Cant believe he was a so called third liner before.
  2. Vs washington on feb 5th. Thats probably why he looks super frustrated
  3. Actually I feel like we are already in a sort of global war, not a physical one but an economic one. China's belt and road and Made in China 2025 is basically a declaration of war which imo triggered the "trade war" by the US. Whether that will lead to actual war remains to be seen. Conflict with one of China's "allies" like Iran or N Korea could be the spark.
  4. Big congratulations to the Raptors on their first NBA title! Personally not a Raptors fan but I am a basketball fan and they were objectively the better team throughout the series. They'll be contenders again next season if they keep Kawhi which seems very likely. A well deserved finals mvp for Kawhi. I look forward to Siakam developing into an all star player. As for the Warriors they've had an amazing run, but they might struggle to make the playoffs next year even if they do manage to resign KD and Klay. Klay out for most of the next season with ACL tear and KD done for the whole season. An unceremonious end but they played their heart out this series.
  5. I got to give credit to Lowry, Green, Ibaka they actually motioned to the crowd to stop cheering and waving goodbye to KD when he was down. We are pretty pro-Raptors on this board and Im happy the team was respectful to KD, but no denying some of the crowd was absolutely crap in that situation.
  6. Raptors are clearly the superior team. More poised, more length and athleticism, team is hitting peak performance at the right time. Warriors got absolutely destroyed on pick on roll plays yesterday, their defense has really declined this season. Goes without saying the Raptors have better Defense, its very weird to say this but the Raptors actually have more firepower than the Warriors (without KD). And it looks increasingly likely KD will not make it back in time. Raptors coaching deserves a lot of credit, Nurse stuck to his game plan when the shots weren't falling in the first half even though they were getting so many open shots. In the NBA the superteams in recent history usually end pretty badly. Lakers in the early 2000s, even Miami Heat in 2014 finals they lost in 5 games to the Spurs and they had the big 3 then. Then afterwards Lebron left. Series is certainly not over yet....but it feels like there's a good chance the Warriors dynasty ends in game 5.
  7. If anything, I would be worried the Raptors get complacent because of the injuries on GS. If the warriors 2 of 3 best players are injured long term I think its very realistic they finish it off in the next 2. I felt the Raptors lead was never really threathened at all in game 3. The team the Warriors put out on the floor yesterday would struggle to even make the playoffs. Iguodala is on his last legs nothing like his 2015 finals mvp self. Younger team like the Sixers put up a better fight. That said if KD and Klay come back, I think there will be a decisive game 7.
  8. Well not sure if KD comes back at all and Klay looks like he hurt his hamstring. If both miss next game really good chance raptors can take back home court.
  9. Canada should try to get the F-15X. Buying old airframes could work as a stopgap but I think it'll increase maintenance costs a lot in the long run.
  10. Not sure if this has been posted here before, but this channel does really good play by play breakdowns of games, and analyzing why teams win or lose the way they do. This vid is for game 5 and explains how the Raptors got themselves the win.
  11. I think some sort of joint partnership would be best in these kinds of projects, that way the unit costs will be driven down as other countries will be batch buying too. While Canada still get the industrial benefits. For example the F-35, very expensive program but because theres so many countries invovled and batch buying now the costs is sub 90 mil US, which is actually reasonable for a state of the art fighter.
  12. Current Canucks are not playoff tested, need to experience some playoff blows and that's why they've got to start making the playoffs next season. I think young teams can win though. Blackhawks for example, were quite young when they won their first with the current core.
  13. Well the ECF is now a best of 3. Too bad the raptors depth players tend to play a lot worse on the road, but got to give credit raptors defense has been really good at disrupting flow. I think the Bucks win eventually in game 7.
  14. Now in China you have to use facial recognition to play certain mobile games to control gaming addictions, ride the bullet train, and something as mundane as controlling the amount of toilet paper used. It's pretty incredible but China is basically a totally cashless society now. You can go to the wet market and with your phone scan a QR code to pay the butcher (WeChat and Alipay). Downside with all this cool tech is that it makes it very easy for the government to know basically everything, and control people. The social credit system just part of this network of control as mention in article. The thing is, in China, most people readily embrace it and that's why they're so fast in adopting new tech. And yes, I think eventually it'll come to the West too but there'll be more resistance.
  15. People totally underestimate China. China is/will become a bigger rival than the Soviets were for the US and tbh, at this rate, I don't think the US is up to task economically, and eventually even militarily. Many don't realize that China is already equal to the US in some military tech, and on the way to surpassing the US in others. Meanwhile the US continues waste missiles, people, resources in places like Afghanistan. I wrote this in another topic but China is cranking out something like 40+ modern combat ships and subs per year. I think it was something like 60 in 2014 alone. And because China does not spend resources on foreign adventures, they've build up a huge inventory of missiles that outrange, outnumber, and just out-firepower the US. I'll go as far as to say if there's a hypothetical war without nukes near China in S China Sea or Taiwan today, I think China has a very good chance of winning against the US, like 70 to 30 in favour. Too bad America has so much global presence the US can't actually concentrate forces like China can. Then you've got the belt-and road project which basically shuts the US out of Asia and Africa, now even Europeans are jumping into bed with China. Huawei and ZTE leading the world in 5G patents and tech. AI, supercomputers, and other tech China becoming more dominant in. Now the US looks like they're getting involved in the ME quagmire again despite being a trade war.....everything just lining up for China perfectly.
  16. I think its very important to modernize the ageing Canadian military to maintain credibility as a sovereign country. Honestly the navy should at the very least be at the same level as Australia but I think the Aussies would blow ours out of the water if you were to compare the capabilities. Then again, with China cranking out 40+ modern combat ships and subs every year the threat is on another level.... Problem is the procurement system is broken. The HarryDeWolf Class mentioned in the article has a design + build cost of CA$3.5bln for 5 ships, that's $700 mil per unit that is an based on existing design Norway's Svalbard class, which for perspective cost $100mil for initial design and build https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/shipbuilding-contract-holds-250m-mystery-1.1300816. Also build by Irving shipyards by the way. Its good to support Canadian industry but there needs to be a limit. Almost guaranteed this new program will have huge cost overruns.
  17. Sicario - 8/10 Very tense and cynical movie. Good acting by Del Torro and Blunt. Soundtrack was very foreboding, much like Blade Runner 2049
  18. La La Land: 8.5/10 Acting was good, especially Emma Stone. She's quite a decent singer as well. A bit of a slow start, but overall plot is simple to follow (not a bad thing imo, but still its weaker point). Ryan isn't the best singer but hey, not as bad as Russell Crowe in Les Miserables. Overall a pretty good tribute to old-school style Hollywood musicals. Music is good, tunes are simple but effective. Music is memorable for me. Not sure if it deserves all 14 oscar nominations but I wouldn't be surprised if it took half of those, including best picture.
  19. yea they can't keep closing the schools. My bro goes up to the hill on SFU they kept postponing exams and transit was terrible. They decided to stop transit midday even though it was running earlier on saturday and left the students on the hill.
  20. It's snowing in the Tri-Cities area now. I think this is the first time I have seen change from snow to rain back to snow. Usually it just rains and the snow is gone for the year.
  21. Beasts of no nation - 9/10 From Netflix, a harrowing and tragic film about child soldiers fighting a civil war in a sub-saharan african country. There were certain scenes in this movie that were chillingly unforgettable. I'm a guy and there were parts that definitely brought a tear or two, and others churned my stomach. Brutal, savage, filled with every imaginable war crime and yet it did not lose its human touch and connection. Characters were memorable especially Idris Elba. The main kid character was very good too. Don't watch this if you're looking for a relaxing end to the week.
  22. 10 Cloverfield Lane: 9/10 A suspenseful movie that kept me drawn in the whole time. If you like guessing and creating theories in your head while watching a movie, this one does it. A lot of tension and a sense of claustrophobia is created. The 3 main characters were awesome, and quite convincing in the performance. Climax was quite good and heart pounding. If you have seen Cloverfield (2008 movie) this is not really a sequel despite the name; in fact the plot and atmosphere is very different and there is no nauseous jerky camera.
  23. I remember hearing Benning say somewhere (probably on tsn 1040) that they expect Jake to be a Chris Kreider-like player in the future. I rarely watch the rangers and I think I have only seen Kreider play twice. How accurate is this comparison? How similar was Jake to Kreider at the same age, in terms of development, skill, and etc.?
  24. Just wet snow where I am. Not sticking at all. This is worst than rain.
