[Proposal] NYI Scouts in Town eh?
Attila Umbrus replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Interesting…Pageau and Mayfield for Boeser are pretty even cap wise. We get our 3 c and a hefty RD who can eat minutes up no problem. Could work for both sides. Boeser and Mayfield have injury issues so that’s a wash as well. -
My vote is Trotz, he has shown he can work with stars like Ovi and not kill their offence while making them a better team player. All while improving defensive habits of the overall club..,which we obviously need in a bad way. Boucher is too run and gun. Tippet is too defensive. Vigneault is a good coach but probably not a good fit. Plus been there done that with him. Trotz, fits perfectly, and has won a cup compared to his comparables. Boudreau will probably retire, he is just getting too old I think. Babcock, could resurface as well but I don’t think he fits with this team.

I don’t think you need to be vocal in front of the media to take ownership of it. If Petey and Bo’s way to respond is to leave it all on the ice then enough said to me…the way both those guys have been playing say to me they are picking up their socks and getting to work. All I need to see. It was refreshing to see JT own his crap, but not every player is as candid as he is lol. JT is kinda like Juice in that respect, doesn’t phase him to speak his mind. Which is needed on this team for sure. Just don’t want to get too excited over this W…we have troubles against even middling teams this year. Hopefully they keep working hard as a team and chip away at it. I don’t want to see pathetic don’t give a crap hockey…I hope they work their way out of that “feeling sorry for themselves” hockey they can sometimes default to. -

Call me crazy, but I think we should go full tilt offence, it’s the best we got to offer line up wise, put Rathbone in and just roll with it. Go old school west coast express era full offence no defence lol. We seem to be able to score our way out of problems, won’t win us a cup but could get us into the playoffs. -

And that doesn’t count his awesome fights he had in the AHL, I got to watch him on the moose before the big club, he was all sorts of nasty…does Fedor Fedorov count as a fight…lol -

Shaw is in Philly now…defense looks solid over there…coincidence? We should have never let him go. edit…should have read a bit further in the thread lol. Didn’t realize he moved on because of family reasons. Dang wish him the best! -

#FRANCHISE -
I don’t know about gas lighting…I think they have been trying to make changes but other teams know how terribly constructed this team is, if they give is what we want then it could tip us into a right direction and make us a hard team to play against, even make noise in the playoffs…so GMs would rather let us flounder and flop, once we’re as dead as can be they can get our assets way cheaper. JR is not at a very good point fir strength in negotiating a big franchise altering deal, no GM in the league will entertain that notion…so instead we are stuck to bargain trades or trades with basement teams who are also just as crappy as us…JR has a huge hill to climb. It can be done but we better pucker our butts if we want change that bad because the only 2 guys that other teams will give the world for right now are Petey and Hughes.
-
I have to be honest, this teams plays way different when Hughes is in the line up. The entire damn team starts to just lean on him. In my own opinion we are relying way too much on one single player to control our flow of the game. I am not blaming Hughes directly but coach needs to reign him back a bit and give more minutes to other defenders…our PP actually looked good without him…with him they are always sending to the point and waiting for him to do something with the puck. The last 2 games with out Hughes our team played like a TEAM! With Hughes in the line up all the sudden everyone is doing single man rushes up ice trying to do it all themselves…coincidence or not it’s something that needs to be addressed...or we’re just gonna continue down the path of obscurity.

Yeah he did not do well for us at the nhl level, he played way more solid in utica. Watching him play in Carolina now is what I saw of him in utica. He obviously fits with their team where he didn’t with ours. The reverse can hopefully be said about Bear on our team. He didn’t fit in Carolina but he sure seems like a good fit here.

I was actually upset that we let Chatfield walk, he reminded me a bit of Tanev, very defensively sound…but the few shots he got with the Canucks a couple seasons ago he didn’t look good. So back to the farm he went. It’s great to hear he’s doing well in Carolina tho, he was an awesome dman for our Utica club when he was our property. Benning chose not to retain him, as an RFA so he become a UFA and Carolina signed him last season. So that all happened before our current management come into place. I don’t see how we can blame our current management for letting him go, that was on Benning…

[Signing] Canucks sign Ilya Mikheyev
Attila Umbrus replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sure is! He’s starting to get comfortable which is great to see. -
Good points, it really is starting to look like JT is great at faceoffs but not suited for full time center duty. It’s a very cerebral position. Putting JT with Bo has definitely evened him out to just focus on playing his style of game. And to that point I owe Bo an apology. I’ve been hard on him this year. We all want so much from this team and him, so anything goes wrong we point the fingers there first. A good thing for myself to remember is that all the guys out there care and are trying hard to succeed. Sometimes letting the players work through the tough times is the way it needs to go. So I need to chill out and allow that process to happen.

Win some you lose some…ok in my case a lot lol. I thought Lind would pan out too, nothing yet. Even Brendan Gaunce. One feather in my cap was Burrows. Watched him on the Moose, then get called up for 4th line duty. His first game for the nucks I knew we had something special there. His awareness for the game to me was off the charts. I didn’t think he would peak the wsy he did tho! I thought solid 3rd line winger, momentum changer kinda guy…not 1st line magic man who would stir the twins drinks for years to come lol.

Ohhhh you bet JM. Been guilty of that many times over the years. I’ve seen lots of guys on our farm that I thought for sure would make, only to flop once they get to the NHL. Darren Archibald was a big one for me. He was everything to Utica, but every time he played on the NHL he looked like a shell of what he was in the AHL. Some guys just can’t break through that barrier. I think part of it is mental as in confidence and drive, but a lot of times it’s just the talent level isn’t there and that’s hard to train into a guy…by the time some of these long term prospects are ready they have aged out, coaches or management or both have changed, and the opinions on the player himself has changed and then boom they’re 25 and done, stuck as a tweener in the AHL or off to Europe they go. Still great hockey players, just got lost in the mix of things and took too long to develop.
