Agreed, i’ve said in the past the one thing that separates Rathbone from other offensive dmen we got excited about in the past ie: Rafferty, Subban, etc…is that he seems to learn quickly and adjusts his game, very coachable kid. Where Rafferty and Subban always defaulted back to their bad habits over and over again. I got roasted for saying Rafferty wasn’t NHL calibre…well, he still hasn’t cracked an NHL line up and is now playing for the Krakens AHL squad. Some guys can learn to defend and keep their head above water in the nhl…most guys sink. Rathbone keeps showing us he will improve every game he plays. Inch by inch, but it’s still great progress to see in the kid.

Brisbois has taken a long time to simmer, but wow he has looked great. Nice to see all his hard work on the farm is paying off. Rathbone looks amazing on the PP…and honestly didn’t do too bad in his own zone either. Not great but not terrible. Still learning on that side of things. But overall his positives out weigh his negatives IMO…I really wanna see him let his bomb of a shot go more, right now he is passing off too much on the PP, gotta be a bit more selfish…he has a friggin cannon

Well said JM. He has nothing left to prove on the farm. He is an offensive defensemen…gotta take the warts with that kind of player. He does make some risky plays, but he does need to “feel” it out at the NHL level, he has shown to adjust his game quickly when he makes mistakes. Last season my biggest worry with him was his awareness in the d zone, which is how he got caught and smacked against the boards taking him out of the game, yes dirty hit, but those plays happen. I wanted to see this year if he has learned to protect himself better along the boards and so far from what I see he has definitely adapted and learned. All the d zone plays the last 2 games were pretty ok, skated himself out of trouble and when pressured made a quick pass to try and get the puck to an open player…he didn’t try to hold onto it and and get himself caught along the boards…where his weakness lies being a smaller dman. I hope he continues to get reps on the blue line, as he has obviously shown he can stick. Now we just need some of that offensive stuff of his to pay off. It’s there, he just needs to learn a bit more on the timing of things. Once he is comfortable I would love to see him on the first PP instead of the second…I mean what’s the harm? Can’t suck more than it already does lol.

I think he’s been over thinking the center position too much. Putting him on the wing again could help. Will see what player comes out this game. Sure he can win face offs but he is not a great center man to play the position full time. Last few seasons, he wins draws then switches back to wing right away after the draw leaving Petey back in the C spot. I see he was practicing with Bo, so hopefully this will get him in that groove again. I thought he could handle full time C, but I don’t think he can, the less Miller thinks the better he is IMO. He plays naturally on the wing.

That’s the new slogan I say…”it’s a process” lol…but it really is. It’s hard for these young teams to try and figure out how to be ever day winners…look at Edmonton, even with McDiva and Drais they have taken a very long time to become “contenders”…and I’d argue they still haven’t become that. Why people think it will happen in a linear time line and fashion is beyond me…there will be ups and downs, this year definitely down, but brighter times will come. Especially this team gets managed along the way properly…holding out hope JR and co can do this for us. It’s not an easy task where Benning left us. Partial rebuild, in complete roster, paper thin defence and no defensive prospects to speak of other than bottom tier guys…it’s gonna be a journey, one not easily solved.

A true Canucks fan, cheers my man this is the kinda game where we think we’re gonna get thumped by a superior team, and we come out whooping them, it then whips up the fans enough to think “we beat a top team, we’re gonna go streaking”…then fall back to earth in total Canucks fashion again… So Tillas game prediction is Odd finally gets his first W. 2022-23 Abbotsford Canucks Thread

I’m guessing Delia will be up next as they have committed to him and Silovs…but if they keep getting lit up they will have to turn to Mikey…hopefully he doesn’t sit too long, could come in rusty and do just as bad. Not a great scenario. In my world I’d give Mikey next game…just don’t see it tho. Abby’s coach Collins has a history with Delia so I’m guessing that’s “his boy” -

Yeah him and Delia haven’t been that great to start. Silovs is very raw and has a bit to go to be a starter. Delia hasn’t had good stats for a few years now, he used to have some promise but has kinda started to drop in his development…DiPietro on the other hand has been a good starter for a few years now. Last season he wasn’t even that bad, just Martin out played him. I sure hope they give Mikey a fair shot at the net if Delia and Silovs aren’t giving good starts for the team. -

Well…has the waiver wire pick up list changed? I bet we are close to first pick as we are at bottom of standings. -

Good god not Yeo…he’s obviously there to take over if BB does go. Just hoping it’s not long term. Those mic’ed up sessions with him at training camp are cringe worthy -

Top tier Dmen are hard to get, draft and develop them is your best bet…easier said than done. We don’t have anything like that in our stable at the moment unfortunately I agree better defence will help turn this team around. Hopefully we can make a trade to ease the process…but teams won’t be lining up to help us that’s for sure -

Sure, I can buy that. We definitely needed to address things personnel wise. Our defence is in need of major over haul. Centers and top tier dmen aren’t cheap. It’s gonna be tough! -

Lots of owners lately have been stepping down for being crappy humans. Franky has a long history with that. All you gotta do is find online one of his many labour disputes with his employees. Sure probably nothing to see here, i’m not saying i’m right, but as a fan I am wondering out loud what the heck is goin on. How many people on here complain about him, then I suggest this and it’s some far fetched crazy notion?? I don’t think it is -

No joe he hasn’t, I understand that, even stated that I’m saying it’s become a distraction to the team and until it’s resolved it will continue to do so -

We definitely have some problems in the dressing room. I won’t deny that. It just seems even worse this year. Looking for answers where there are none if you’re a fan. Been cheering for this team a long time. Even when we weren’t great in the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s. The difference to me was even tho they weren’t great they always played like a team and went out there with passion…except messier days…this is what’s reminiscent of that…one person causing an entire melt down of a team. I am blaming Franky but it could be something else. -

It’s a completely different team out there. What has happened to make the entire team change? -

I hope so too VM. But I’m concerned there is something rotten happening…I really don’t want to start rumours or kick up dirt that isn’t there. However, I’m worried about our ownership group and if the players have quit on them. With the allegations against Francesco from his family (bogus or not) it just seems to me our team has no heart right now…hard to give it your all if you have problems with the man that owns the team. The entire team including Bruce seem deflated, completely opposite from last year…JT being the big family man he is, I could see this not sitting well with him. I honestly was hoping for Francesco to announce he would step away to deal with this, but he has remained at the helm and only stated he will make no further comments. I just wonder, until the lawsuit is settled and some more truth is shed on the matter, this cloud will hang over this team and it’s players until it’s finished. We can all sit here and say boo hoo, collect your big pay cheques and keep playing hockey and win games for our team. But they are all human and have families too. It wouldn’t sit well with me if I worked for a man like that. In fact without going into my own personal details, I have quit a job before and found other work because of a boss who was an absolute monster. I was getting paid well but I didn’t give a shit about that. Only difference, I could quit and walk away…our Canucks players cannot…that would drive me insane. There are enough stories of Francesco being a bully to his employees and work force. All of them cobbler together paint s picture of a crappy person. I think Francesco has completely derailed this team and he should step aside. -

We just keep shooting our selves in the foot and letting teams back in the game. The guys are trying but our defence is just not dynamic to handle the offensive chances they are getting. Hughes has a shot like Stetcher, just a muffin of a shot…we capitalize on a power play or two more and we I’ll win some games…Bring Rathbone in, he’s a bull in the offensive zone…screw it if he’s not great in his own zone…I feel like I’m watching the same thing over and over again with no success…wait…it’s because that is what’s happening, I have been a big JT supporter, but this is getting silly now…what is going on with him? Bo has stepped up his game, JT still messing about. Only 5 games in and it’s been tough sledding…a whole year of this would be hard to stomach…will still watch and cheer, but hell I thought we were gonna be better than this. I am officially disappointed. Big home stand coming up…if they don’t string some wins together changes gotta be made. One lonely positive in this game, WOW our 4th line played great. Shout out to them. Played hard on the puck and FINISHED their chances.
