Kid is well spoken, Gaudette has me very excited, and now knowing the fact the 2 are good friends only adds to my excitement further. I really hope Gaudette does get the Boeser treatment and the end of the season and get him into some games!

Now that’s some power!...but I don’t even think the gods can help with that one. I think it’s a universal law, you know theory of relativity e=mc2, or more succinctly put, Canucks never get 1st over all. To suggest other wise would literally break our universe, time would mean nothing, and everything would cease to exist...I’ll stick with 5th overall...lol, it’s our 1st! ....(You should try the cool aid i’m drinking, it’s great!)

Can he get “in touch” with Loui Eriksson? And remind him he should be putting up more points than he is...? That would be great

Most people’s understanding of hockey is rudimentary at best. At least that is what i’ve found. You really have to have a passion beyond just having a favourite team to assess things. A lot of people never really look beyond their own team and see what else is out there. People who follow lower tier leagues in hockey seem to be more adjusted to seeing the game the way it is. I think it’s because when you start paying attention to hockey from the bottom up you really start to see a growth pattern and evolution to the game...but one really has to be a hockey nut for that lol.

Like an old Western movie...Ahlberg is on a one way train to Lockwood, it’s a dirty scrappy one horse town. Look out for yerself there kid! And keep yer head up. Ya never know when ol’ Willy is coming! seriously tho...this kid loves to hit. Excited to see him develop. I had a dream about an all college draft pick line of Lockwood, Gaudette, and Boeser. But that was a while ago...you know, before Brock took over the league with his magnificent man flow, playing on a top line with Horvat...

I did not like Down at all in his first 2 games, but I knew better than to crap on him. Change is hard no matter where you go! He's been looking lately like a Dorsett player after all, you may be onto something. But I do worry about his ablility to win faceoffs, his numbers aren't great in that department...so the question to me is who is better at faceoffs for that line, because I want possession right away with them. Goldy crafty enough to get the puck and get it to Virt, Virt pressures it up ice, let the play develop from there...Burmistrov has the best FO % so far out of, Granlund, Gaunce, Dowd. The only other guy with decent FO % available right now is Gagne. I did not see that one coming lol!? He's never been known as a good FO centerman. But hey i'll take it! I like the Nikita comparison. They both bring "impact" to the game. You notice them each time when they are on the ice. Good and bad. To me it's a good sign tho. If a player is engaged and trying to make plays they won't get it 100% of the time, but at least they are out there making a difference, putting their "balls" on the line (you're welcome Sutter...lol). Eventually Jake will smooth out his game, as will Nikita. Both will be impact guys for this team going forward (yes i'm in the group that believes Nikita will come back).

Yeah, he has kinda bounced around the whole line up. But has shown the ablility to play with anyone. I thought he looked ok with the Sedins, but didn't last...this was before the Sedins re-ignited themselves tho. He needs a playmaker with him, i'm not blown away by the Goldy/Burmi/Virt line yet. But that line needs some time to develope chemistry, would like to see it left alone...I'm really hoping him and Goldy can pair up and make sweet sweet music together.

All he needs to do is learn how to pass the puck better when going full speed. You can see him hesitate to make plays at that speed. Which is why IMO he seems to always take the shot instead, or try and go behind the net, circle, and look for a pass. But never really finds anyone with it. He's reminding me a lot like Hansen this year, which is a great thing. Hansen has always had a bomb of a shot and was a vicious forechecker and general pain in everyones ass. But it took him several years to round out his "play making" game. Hope Jake learns quicker than him. But man, love what he is bringing each game. Gaunce and him are both due for some puck luck!

I agree, his first season is what most people are expecting from him. But same as Stetcher, the reality sets in and teams catch onto the players style of play and learn how to eliminate them as a threat. That's why sophmore slumps are a real thing for a lot of players, with the exception of higher end guys like Matthews or McDavid. So I usually take a back seat approch to watching players develop. They tease in their first year, but I always keep my expectations lower just in case. Stetcher and Hutton are still growing, who really knows where they end up. Stetcher in particular this year hasn't looked that great. A lot of bad passes, and man does he need to work on his shot. There is no power to it whatsoever. Playoffs, another good point. You really don't know what kind of player you have till they are battle tested in playoffs. Many players have had great regular seasons only to dry up and dissapear completely in the post season. That's also why I think our team going forward in the future is going to be good come the post season. Virtanen whether he levels off as a third line RW/LW, is value added. Plays gritty and I think can still be effective during playoffs. And he's the tip of the ice berg from Bennings drafting plan. He is bringing in players with IMO the right amount of skill and grit to play in the post season. I am worried about Pettersson but he's so skilled I think he can make it when surrounded by the right cast of players. In any case, it's fun to watch the re-tool/build...or whatever. I haven't seen great young talent like this coming through our system in a very long time! And as always i'll never stop hoping for that cup! Benning may not be around long enough to see how good he's set our team up, as is the case with a lot of GM's. Hopefully management gets his contract locked down and we can keep the prospect pool flowing. If we keep drafting gems through the years as Benning seems to be able to do imagine our tradeable asset base. You'll have your main NHL roster, but with tons of skilled kids from the farm team knocking on the door repeatedly, you'll then eventually have to purge a few players to allow room for more growth as there will most likely be other good young players from the junior leagues trying to turn pro right behind the farm team kids. The quality of our trades will go up since Benning has players worth real value to trade with. All in all it's a good thing to have so many good prospects. In a way it's currency. And with Benning and his scouting record our currency should be worth a lot more in the near future...IMO. Cheers!

Very good points. I've been thinking/seeing the same out of Hutton. I hope his PPG recovers. But even for the very visable gaffes he's made this season he's still one of the only plus players the Canucks have on their roster this year. Like you said he's up there with Tanev, and that says something to me. He's still young and if he keeps on rounding out his defensive game to the point where he's comfortable then his offence will start to follow. I still think he can be a 3/4 puck moving/PP d-man who pots 20-30 pts in a year, all signs point to him becoming something close to that in a few years time...in my own opinion lol (which means nothing to most).

Wait! Never mind I figured this out. I was clicking the wrong button/s...? Dang double vision in Mexico buds!!...lol

By the way I'm not savvy with this new "plus" system. I can't figure out how to give a guy props!? I need to give bigturk a beer and a cheer!

Buddy you just made my day. Now I have the giggles lol. Which is awesome because I'm on vacation in mexicoooo right now, beer plus this video is making me laugh so hard by the pool... people are staring. Cheers!

I've been a few places myself. Plus have worked with a bunch of guys who have worked all over the world...Indonesia, Russia, Europe,Australia, parts of China and Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba...on and on really lol. I work in the natural gas industry and you get to meet some really interesting people if you stay in it long enough. Anyways, getting to my point. I eventually ended up on Vancouver Island. I love the atmosphere and the way of life here. A lot slower paced. The western side is a lot rainier than the eastern side, Victoria area where I live gets some really mild weather. I like Vancouver and visit quite often, but Victoria is where I settled upon. Victoria is expensive but other towns on the eastern side are quite a bit more affordable. I have co-worker that lives in Ladysmith with his wife (up island) and he loves it there as well...and he's been all over the world lol. It's a great place to be, and you'd have a blast if you visited. Cheers!

I think that is the most misunderstood thing that Gudbranson brings to the team. And not a lot of people see or get that. I seen several examples during this game and even games in the pre-season where guys would back off when Guddy was on the ice. He makes you pay hard for being in front of his net or along the boards. Heck even Lucic was quiet because of him. Lucic would have been a way bigger factor in this game if we didn't have someone on the team like this. Someone mentioned a bit ago that he's like Willie Mitchell, and I like that comparison. He didn't bring much offensively but just check his resume and see how many cups and deep playoff runs he's had in his career, that's not by accident.

LOL, nice. Bringing us way back on that one!

Even if Jake doesn't turn out to be a top 6 forward he has the power to take over games whether he scores or not. He is a player that I don't measure by points entirely. He brings so much more to the table, if he keeps his consistency up, he stays fit, and keeps his head in the game he will be an impact player no matter what. With his shot he'll get his goals whether it's on a third line or higher. Torres -> Hansen -> Perry...is the range i'm predicting him in (obviously Perry is a long range goal, but I think he has the chops to do it). Either one of those players i'd take on my team any day (minus Raffi's head hunting rep). We can all agree our 3rd line during the 2011 run was about as high end as it gets... Torres, Malholtra, Hansen...dang I still love that line! They terrorized their opponents, won key faceoffs, put a lot of pressure on the ozone and kept their dzone clean, and scored at 2nd line 5V5 rates while getting no power play time. That has amazing value to any team. Now I know Jake is only one guy but with our other prospects coming through the pipeline i'm sure we'll be able to replicate this again in the future. It's looking bright fella's, and here's to hoping Jake proves all his doubters wrong this season. He has went through a major transformation since last year. He's really growing up and starting to understand his "niche" in this game. He wants to make a positive impact on and off the ice and it's great to see the change in his attitude. It will pay off big time for the club. All the best to ya Jake, go prove em wrong!

I have to go out on a limb here. I've been thinking about this for a while now. But Virtanen really reminds me of Corey Perry. Full of piss n' vinegar, can snipe the puck, plays dirty but in a good way (if he's on your team lol). Can hit and play a power game, and is not a liability defensively. Pretty similar body types. Anyways, I think there are some definite comparables. Thoughts?
-
Nice! Definitely drives the point home about him. I think it really helps his chances that Green is the coach now too. He's a known, reliable quantity to Green.
-
Very true, he made the right play. But would he make it again after getting hit like that? Same play after the hit I bet he rushes to get the puck off before getting steam rolled lol. But props to him for sure!

Aaaannnddd...BOOM...mike drop! Great read, learned a lot. Thanks!

I hate to say it's true because there are so many good Russians playing in the NHL and it's not fair to them...but it does have validation. Lots of players from different nationalities do the same thing if they don't get what they're seeking for in the NHL, but it's not maybe as frequent as how many times it happens with Russian players. Perhaps it's because Russians know they have the KHL which by all accounts is the next best league in the world with the next best pay for a professional.

That's a good point to bring up, but I remember his goals he scored last year. They were nice but came at the expense of playing a team game and a team system. That's why I have trouble with what Nikita said. Of course not all his goals last year were because of his lack of team play, but there were quite a few instances during his short stint last season where he provided spark a certain points during the game then floated around blowing assignments for the rest looking to cheat on a play and get a quick goal. I thinks that's more why Willie would bench him...maybe he gets too excited when he scores a goal lol?? Of course this is just my point of view, and I do see your logic as well. Cheers

What i'm most worried about is how he thinks Goldobin should be playing in the NHL because he can score goals...if that's his view of hockey he's sorely mistaken about what NHL hockey is all about. Sure it's nice to score goals but there is so much more to the game than just that. For him to suggest he doesn't know why Goldy gets benched all the time shows me he doesn't fully understand the North American version of the game. Goldy is a great prospect with great offensive talent but if you just float around waiting to score all the time it just makes your teammates work harder on the ice to cover for you, which is selfish. You need to contribute on both ends of the ice to earn respect in this league. Funny thinking about it...but Goldy is very much like Subban, great at offence...defense...what defense?

I'm sure this is posted somewhere on this forum, but i'm lazy. So here is my favorite hit by Archie...just naaasssty!
