IIHF bans Russia and Belarus for 2023-24 season
Alflives replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Russia invaded Ukraine. What in the heck are you going on about? And the court that has called for Pootin’s arrest isn’t recognized by the US. -

You sound like a fan with PTBD. New management are building wisely. They moved older Bo for younger new Beau, younger Hronek, and very young Raty. Where is the impatience? We are building a young and exciting team that will be a winner for many seasons. -

[Rumour] Canucks interested in Sam Malinski
Alflives replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
There are good reasons why these college free agents weren’t drafted. They are already in their mid 20’s and have holes in their games. Their improvement curve will be close to flat for skating and strength. If they are slow now (Livingston) they will be slow in 3 years. I do like Malinski but he’s smaller and not an elite skater or puck mover. These guys aren’t as good as Jett Woo. Woo would be a huge get for a team if he was coming out of college as a 23-25 year old who wasn’t Drafted. -

Wrong. The core we have is fabulous. They are younger too. We have the hardest pieces to get in place. -

We are missing 2-4 supporting role pieces. We have the core and it’s fantastic. -

Still wrong. New management moved Bo in a fantastic team building trade. We returned a first that was widely flipped for a core piece (Hronek) a top line winger (New Beau) and an elite centre prospect. We will buyout OEL and dumperoo Garland. Myers we will trade after his bonus. That’s 18 mil in cap cleared for next season. Our core is great! Our supporting cast is being retooled. Cup parades soon. -

Nope. We are very close as evidenced by the success since having coaches who implemented proper structure. Buyout OEL and trade Garland as a full dumperoo. Remove the Benning stain. -

There’s our difference. IMHAO we are ready to compete now. Moving Bo for Hronek was brilliant. For sure we want to draft well and keep a steady supply of youth pushing for spots. That competition for jobs (ice time) is important. -

Drafting another Petey and Hughes? Heck they’re both arguably top 5 at their positions in the league. Love to get Michkov. He’d be an awesome add in three years. -

Me too. And like almost all of us here I very much liked Bruce. But clearly JR knew what he was talking about when he was critical of our lack of structure. -

Lots of very good players are drafted 10-15 too. And how many years before the guy we draft (except Bedard) is ready to make an impact on our club? 3-5? We are good right now and will add supporting cast players who can help us be even better. The players we draft this June will be pushing for spots in 3-5 years. We need to continue to retool now and draft guys who will fill roles down the road. Or, you’re a fan who believes our core isn’t good enough. And that means rebuild. -

We agree. We need a right shot, defensive minded 3C too. But IMHAO we can fill those roles via free agency and (or) trades. We are very close. -

Alflives replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
We filled our #2 D spot (a core role) with a 25 year old, excellent, right shot guy. The supporting cast can be filled via free agency and other trades. Tampa won back to back Cups with a D group that only had one of their own drafted players, Hedman. We are very close. -
[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks | Mar. 26, 2023
Alflives replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
But the holes are in the supporting group. It’s a lot easier to fill those roles than to build a core. -

The core is in place. Hronek was the final piece. We are retooling the supporting cast. Which players are core in your view? Which positions? Define core? -

Then you’re another fan who would prefer we rebuild. That means trading away our young core, because you believe they’re not good enough, and deep diving to get top five draft picks for as long as it takes to replace them. JR/Allvin don’t think we should do that. They realize this core is good enough to win. They added Hronek by moving Bo. Smart trade. We had three high end enters. Do they turned the lesser of the three into a much needed #2 D, who happens to be right shot. They continue to retool the supporting cast. -

Rebuilding is, by definition, replacing the core. It’s saying the core we have isn’t good enough to win. That’s exactly what you said. I disagreed with your evaluation of our core. It is good enough to win. -

All of us are just fans. Of course we don’t make the choices for the club. If we did most of us would have overpaid to keep Bo. Clearly Allvin knew that was a mistake. So he made a fabulous trade. He turned Bo into a great, young #2 right shot D. A young first line winger, and a high end centre prospect. -
We won the trade. New Beau is producing better than old Bo. Plus, we got Hronek (a great 25 year old #2 D) and a 20 year old prospective centre who could grow into an excellent 2 or 3 Centre. Plus we didn’t have to overpay to keep Bo. That’s a huge friggin’ win by our management. WE WIN! And I think the Islanders are very happy with our old Bo. They are winning and have moved into a playoff spot. But it’s clearly a trade we won. And winning is better than losing.

We just won back to back games. We dominated a very good Dallas club and then, with no legs, locked it up against a craperolla Hawks’ group and our elite skill won it. And some fans are upset because we are winning. Don’t get it. -
[rumours] Canucks NCAA & Euro FA targets
Alflives replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
And next year OEL continues to stink so he is replaced in our bottom pairing by a 1 million dollar guy. OEL sits in the press box while we are then allocating 8+ mil to a bottom pairing D spot. That could happen. The for sure safe play is to buyout OEL. -

If your opinion is the current core isn’t good enough then you want a rebuild. That means trading away Demko, Petey, and Hughes because by the time we come out of the rebuild (5-8 years) those guys would be gone anyway. Plus, they are too good to deep dive to the bottom. Then, after those 5-8 years of high draft picks, we hope to have drafted and developed great players as good as the three we have. IMHAO our core is good enough to win and they are showing it. Retooling the supporting cast continues. But the core is for sure good enough. -

Looks more like we are rising to the top. Accept the fact we have a great young core and management is building a strong supporting cast. We will be very good for a very long stretch of seasons. Them is the facts.
