  1. It was a fantastic trade for us. At 68 million a player should be the one driving his line. Bo is a supporting role guy.
  2. The OEL buyout is 20 million. If our owner does the right thing and cuts the cheque to buyout OEL that’s great.
  3. With Bruce coaching Demko had to steal a lot of our wins. The change we are seeing now in how we play is what needs to carry over to next season. If our owner allows JR to mske the coaching change last summer, like he wanted to, then maybe this year doesn’t go do bad in the first place?
  4. What’s the trade cost for a guy like him? Trade down (from our first) at the draft to get a late first and a second and then flip the second for Kuraly? Would that be enough?
  5. Demko is our most important player. We don’t have good enough supporting role depth to win with below average goaltending. Management has retooled enough where average goaltending is all we need to win. When they have completed retooling our D, then we will win with below average goaltending. And when Demko plays like Double Bubble Boy we will be a great team again.
  6. Raty is way better defensively than Karlsson. But management might prefer Raty works on his offensive game in the minors for another year. I think we bring in a 3C from the free agent market. It will be an older guy too. Like what Beagle was. But this management will only go a two year deal at most.
  7. How could anyone, not living in St.Louis, be a fan of Binnington? The other players in the league must very much enjoy pushing his buttons and watching him explode like he does.
  8. Sabres and Sens are both looking up with their young players.
  9. Fortunately Raty’s greatest strength is his extremely high hockey smarts. The best 200 foot players are over the top quick game processors. Snd those guys go t need to be overly fleet of foot. ROR, PB, and others use their brains to be ahead of the play. Raty will for sure be a defensively sound centre. The question is whether he will be enough of an offensive threat to fill the 2C role (and push JTM to wing) or whether he tops out as a 3C and is more like Malholtra.
  10. You think we just might keep Myers until the 2024 TDL?
  11. Seeing that list makes the timing of acquisition of Hronek appear even all the smarter.
  12. Nope. He won’t cut the cheque because he can’t afford too. He never has before. But he should. It’s what’s needed for us to be a better team. We are going to see OEL in the press box and a 3 mil player in his spot. That’s 10 mil allocated to one bottom pairing role. Ugly for us.
  13. I think Hronek, new Beau, and Raty will always be compared to old Bo in our market. We still talk about the Linden trade and how that set up for the development of our most successful teams ever. This trade has a similar potential. And Raty is a key piece. He grows into a 2 C and pushes Miller to wing and that’s an incredible win for us. Add Hronek as a D carrying our second pairing and it’s beyond great. Then we got new Beau too!
  14. So OEL is a crappy old car? Nice analogy. The argument is likely “moo” anyway. Our owner won’t cut the cheque, even though he should because it’s what’s best for the club to build a winner.
  15. If we want to win the Cup during the height of our elite, then buying out OEL this summer is a very smart move. Having OEL eat 7.2 and play bottom pair minutes and end up in the press box is what we should try to avoid. It’s what will happen though.
  16. I think we will try to play Hronek with OEL on our second pair and see if he can carry him. Don’t know what we do though when that doesn’t work and OEL ends up in the press box.
  17. And OEL sits in the press box so we still need a bottom pairing guy. Now his 7.2 is 10.2. The best way for us to have a better player in our bottom pair is to buyout OEL. If we don’t then we will be spending 10 mil for that role.
  18. Even if we got a compliance buyout what are the chances our owner would cut the cheque to get rid of OEL? Of course he should, regardless of whether it’s a compliance buyout or a regular one. I just doubt he will in either circumstance.
  19. That’s very smart. Maybe Beau at 4.5x2? We could trade Garland and clear 5. Allocate that to Beau.
  20. No. It’s smart management of cap allocation. It’s what we should do, but our owner won’t. So we will spend 7.2 per year for four more years to play in our bottom pair. And very likely we see that 7.2 in the press box. So we will add the cap of the guy who takes OEL’s spot. Now it’s at minimum an 8 mil cap hit for a bottom pairing guy. It’s clear the smart move is to buyout OEL this summer.
  21. The way you present the numbers even more so suggests it’s best for our club to buyout OEL this summer. We get a better player in the bottom pair and have cap left over to allocate elsewhere.
  22. Interesting post. Headache causing though. IMHAO our owner won’t buyout OEL. It’s way too big a cheque for him to cut. (He should, because it’s best for our club, but he won’t) So we play OEL for the four seasons on our bottom pair. He eats 7.2 mil in cap. It’s too bad. That cap could be allocated elsewhere to make us better.
  23. Exactly which move new management made is short sighted?
