Missing the farm and the big freezer of meat.

Terrible stuff in Saskatchewan today.

Who had the worse off season?
Dumbass and the LOSER LEAFS, or Tresnivling and the SMELLY COWPIES. Got to bring us true Canuck fans great joy seeing these two LOSER teams LOSING.

After 8 years of Benning there hasn’t been much joy in “Mudville”. So yippee to the LOSER LEAFS and SMELLY COWPIES having horrible off-seasons. And thank God we no longer have Benning so we can take joy in watching us winning - again.

Nick Suzuki listed as one of the worst NHL contracts. Habs are in big trouble. Lots of bad contracts with term there. Andersson and Hoffman are worse than Suzuki.

He’s generally good for around 30-to-35 points, but actually driving offence at five-on-five isn’t his specialty. That holds his value back a bit, especially from being a true number one, but his defensive ability is supposed to make up for it. At his peak, Parayko was one of the league’s very best defensive defencemen — one who would absolutely be worth a big-ticket deal.
The problem is Parayko hasn’t been that over the past two seasons. His relative scoring chance suppression has been OK, but that’s been relative to a below-average defensive team that gives up a fair share of chances. A lot of those chances are also ending up in the net, which over a larger sample size does matter — even if it’s prone to luck in the short term. Parayko is now projected to be an average defensive defender, with a little boost given because of the context of his usage which is very tough.
Right now Parayko looks like a strong number three according to GSVA, but there’s a path back towards being a legitimate top-pair defender … maybe even a high-end one like he once was. What Parayko needs is help on the left side. He isn’t a guy who can drive a pair on his own, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s harder to like an eight-year commitment at top-pairing money under those circumstances. Parayko has the ability, talent and size to be very valuable, but better support is needed.
I believe in Parayko and that he can get back there, but there’s an even bigger hindrance and that’s age. For a rugged defender, the age curve isn’t kind, especially as he enters his 30s. Parayko’s best comp is Erik Johnson which isn’t bad, but it isn’t great either.
Getting back to the top-pair level in his early 30s will make this deal much more palatable for the Blues, but it’s no guarantee and the mid-30s part will likely be even tougher to swallow. This will be a very interesting season for his trajectory.

Such a wonderful day in Canuck land. We got better and the LOSER LEAFS and CRUSTY COWPIES got worse!

Another interesting comment from JR was about the meeting with scouts. He said the first day the scouts didn’t really offer their thoughts much. Then, after encouragement, there was a lot of discussion. Sounds like Benning didn’t listen to scouts so they just learned to not say much. Benning sure did a lot of damage.

Habs chose Slafkovsky and Dach over Wright and Romanov. Worst draft since choosing Wickenheiser over Savard.

Considering Wright not only fell past the Habs but two other teams, it's hard to judge their decision to go with Slafkovsky as negative right now. Time will tell, of course, but there's a lot to like about Slafkovsky, and apparently at least two other teams did not like Wright enough to go with other players (including another center).
As for what essentially became Dach for Romanov, I agree that the value of that trade is questionable. They might have been better off keeping the pick as there are a lot of questions about Dach, even though he's only 21. If Dach pans out at least as a legitimate 2C behind Suzuki, then this might end up being a decent trade for MTL, but even then the value of Romanov, the 13th OA, the 66th OA, AND the 98th OA would still presumably be a pretty steep price for a 2C.

Hamilton v Edmonton in the Mem Cup tonight. Loser goes home. Winner plays in the semi final. This is great hockey!

Just watching a Spider-Man movie on a free Internet site. It’s in Spanish, but dialogue isn’t needed to understand this show, especially when the once full bottle is empty.

You know @Alflives, I kind of feel ick after having 4 glasses of wine yesterday evening. I had chips for dinner, but I should go to the grocery store. It's just a matter of fact of putting on my shoes and walking to the grocery store. Organic blueberries are on sale!

Watching Brooks Bandits dominating the Junior A Cup. They would win the Memorial Cup.

Just watched the USA seriously choke against the Checks. Leading 3-1, and lose 8-4.
Watched a lot of their games. Luke Hughes can’t skate anywhere nearly so well as his brothers.

What happened to the “Fix the Leafs” thread? We need a thread where we can crap on that team.
LOSER LEAFS LOSE!

Alf’s lined up his empties from today and is seeing an Avs v Leafs Cup Final. Avs win (Thank God)

I can see a team like Buffalo making a play on Brent Burns. That team looks like they want to take a step forward. They have cap space (over 13 million in cap this season, more this offseason). Could absorb Burns' cap hit and he'd be a good mentor for both Dahlin & Power. Burns contract will end just as Power's ELC will end just as Burns's contract ends. Seems like a good fit, though I'm not sure Burns will waive his NTC to go to Buffalo.
I have no idea who would take Karlsson. Maybe Ottawa wants him back?!?

Thank you for sharing that photo @brilac
That’s the best Guy picture I’ve seen.

Alf is winning! Just checked and old Alfer took over top spot when he yesterday topped the 50 mark for being ignored. Way to go Alf!
