So with his salary at the AHL level and signing bonus, he is going to be paid $172,500 - this is very good money for average family in Belarus. Plus performance bonuses...

@SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME Found some interesting document online https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2020-21/2020-21TransitionRulesCriticalDates.pdf Rule 13, Article 8 "For purposes of determining where a Player who is drafted in the 2021 NHL Draft was “drafted from” under the provisions of Article 8, a Player will be deemed to have been “drafted from” the league and team as follows: i) if the Player played during the 2020-21 season, the league and team for which he played during the 2020-21 season as per traditional practice, provided, however: A) if the Player played in a league outside North America during the 2020-21 season but had never played in a league outside North America prior to the 2020-21 season, the league and team for which he played during the 2019-20 season as per the traditional practice" - not our case, as well as following points B and C... Klimovich is deemed to be drafted from Europe according to this NHL document published due to the covid situation in NA. Hooray! Welcome to Abbotsford, Danila!

I agree, this would be interesting to see if Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are going to argue with the Canucks intention to send Danila to the AHL. I would personally prefer him to go to Abby.
-
He did not play in the CHL because of the covid travel restrictions in Canada. As I wrote earlier, Klimovich flew to Montreal in Feb 2021 to play in the QMHJL but his entry to Canada was denied. The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies invited him, they paid for his air tickets to Montreal, their representatives waited for him in the Montreal airport. They have pretty good case if go to court. Edit: As I mentioned earlier, Klimovich signed contract with The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in Sep 2020 so he did have contract with a CHL club when drafted by Canucks.

Excellent news! This is the best decision Canucks could have made in this situation. I am not going in details (don't want to jinx the deal), can just say that Dinamo Minsk is not a regular KHL club under the existing political circumstances.
-
Well, Klimovich is drafted from the CHL which means he is not allowed to play in the AHL under the NHL contract until he is 20 years old. Canucks may sign him to the ELC and play him in the NHL or assign him to the CHL junior team in Quebec drafted him in 2020 in which case his contract would slide and does not count against the NHL's 50-contract limit. I just don't see how Danila may play in the AHL under the current rules.

Yes, I can confirm that he has signed 1-year contract with Dinamo-Minsk https://hockey.by/news/sobytie/news147568.html

Some interesting info... Danila's coach in Minskie Zubry was Denis Grot drafted by Canucks in the 2nd round in 2002 (never played in North America). Despite the covid restrictions worldwide, Klimovich tried to get to Quebec in Feb 2021 to play in QMHJL. Canadian borders were closed but some junior players from Europe somehow managed to sneak to Quebec so Danila's QMHJL club suggested him to take risk and try to get into Canada, paying for his air tickets. He was given permission by Minskie Zubry to leave the club, successfully passed all covid tests and flew to Montreal with group of five Russian players also having contract with Quebec junior clubs. One of them was somehow overlooked by Canadian customs and went through but others were stopped. The club representatives were waiting for players, all entry documents were fine, but right before that, Quebec government announced more restrictions to enter the province. Negotiations took place for two hours but players were not given permission to come to Quebec.
-
Yes, the 20-year rule applies to him since he was officially drafted from the CHL.
-
I would say this is Jim Benning's pick primarily since Jim was in Texas during the U18 world tournament and watched this prospect live.
-
Last season Klimovich played almost entire season for Minskie Zubry in the junior Vysshaya Liga and 6 games for Dinamo-Molodechno in the Belarus Extra Liga (mens liga). Both clubs are part of the KHL club Dinamo, Minsk. Junior club Minskie Zubry is farm club for Dinamo-Molodechno. Klimovich has been always playing in the Dinamo-Minsk system and is now on tryout for his KHL club. Сorrection: Danila also played three games for Dinamo-Molodechno in the Salei Cup (top mens hockey cup in Belarus) in 2021.

[Buyout] Canucks terminate Virtanen’s contract
Stierlitz replied to Where's Wellwood's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This was reported that Toffoli played with groin injury in Stanley Cup finals. -
@stawns Okay, I figure this out. Danila has signed QMJHL contract with Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda in Sep 2020. So he is officially drafted from the CHL. https://sportarena.by/hockey/danil-klimovich-igrok-ruan-noranda-haskiz/

Haha sorry for confusion, I used the Q letter to indicate Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) because this is too long in writing. QMJHL is part of the CHL along with OHL and WHL.

There is interview with Danila regarding his NHL draft (in Russian): https://belarushockey.com/nhl/news_nhl/2021/07/25/danila-klimovich-rasskazal-ob-emocijah-drafta-nhl,-v-kotorom-ego-vybral-vankuver/ Q: Tell us how you followed the draft and where you had been at that moment. A: We had just returned from hiking exercise and were following the draft with cell phones. Guys noticed this first and told me that I was drafted by Vancouver. Q: Did you have any preferences about NHL club? A: You never know in the NHL which team is going to draft you. Anyway I am very glad and happy that this happened the way it happened. Q: Who congratulated you first beside your teammates? A: My agent Dan Milstein. And then I run to our fan club where my dad was waiting for me, to share my joy with him. Q: Are you planning to celebrate this news? A: My dad is already celebrating (smile). We are going to have large dinner with our relatives and friends when I get back to Pinsk (his home town). But I am still on training right now. Q: Did Canucks contact you? A: Yes, they called me right after selection. I got calls from about 25 NHL clubs before the draft, some of them were very interested in me. Only Colorado, Chicago and one more team did not call me. Q: What do you feel as the dream of each young hockey player comes true for you? A: This is very cool. I work hard, never give up. Always trying to get better. This pays out.

This is right. "Players drafted and playing for CHL teams are ineligible to play in the professional minor leagues (AHL, ECHL) until they are 20 years old (by December 31st of that year) or have completed four years in major juniors". The fact that he does not have contract in Q and does not play for them makes this complicated, some kind of grey area. We'll see how it is going to be solved. Klimovich does not refuse to play in Q, he just want to check with Canucks which way they want him to go.

NHL draft results is the main news in Belarus today. For the first time three Belarussians were selected in top 100. Klimovich was drafted before any prospects from Czech Rep., Slovakia, Germany and Switzerland.
-
Finally find out why there was report about Klimovich playing against men in Belarus. He actually played six game with one goal in the Belarus extra league, which is the top hockey league in the country, in the second half of the season.
