A lot of money for Mister Regular Season.
The above stats are great, but they are regular season stats, right?
-
About size: You don't have to be big, you have to play big.
About playoffs: Size matters in playoffs, but first you have to qualify.
About Suter: He brings good value for that price. You cannot pay all the players 5 millions or more when the cap is less than 90 millions.
One of the biggest mistakes of Benning was that he gave to big contracts to bottom six forwards.

Wow. This will change the sport.
But we have to protect the heads of the players, there is no other way than to prohibit all contact with the head. All contact.
Also the NFL should do a lot more to protect players. And soccer will eventually ban headers.- 1

He Pius! Viel Glück in Vancouver!

I don't know if I am going for another championship and I have offensive weapons like Crosby, Malkin and Letang, is my priority to pay that much for another offensive weapon?
With a Cap system, you can only spend a certain amount on all your needs and going top heavy ala Toronto does not always become a recipe for success.
If it was me, I would have looked for complimentary players to play with Crosby or Letang or Malkin or go after a shut down defenseman.
I suspect they will do fine in the regular season and even make it to the playoffs , but I don't see them doing much more then that TBH.
Exactly. Penguins have a great team on paper, but most of the players have injury histories and I doubt they all will be healthy all year. I can see them missing the playoffs.

We have actually some inflation, that is very different to pre Covid times. Look at this contract, in his seventh year it is easy 20% less real money than it looks now, only because of inflation. And of course, sooner or later, the cap will go up, too.

Maybe he's gonna play Wing. Better would be.

The flipside to the TO bump is that players get a massively inflated sense of their value due to the media being unable to remove their knobs from their mouths.
I really think it would take 2 teams in Toronto, which could then have a healthy rivalry. I know no one outside of Toronto wants a second team there, but it would just make sense. New York has 3 teams, why not 2 in Toronto?

Myers is simply taking too many minor penalties. Combined with the NHL's worst PK, that's a recipe for disaster, so it was clear that one of them had to change. Yesterday the team signed a couple of good PK guys, so we'll see how it goes.

Tomorrow ist July 1, also known as "stupid GM" day.

One of the Devils' few weak points last season was their power play. That's where Toffoli can help them.

Sharangovich is on the market. LW, great at PK and good for 20-25 goals, had to play last season in the bottom six but his play doesn't fit there, and now Jersey is looking for a new home for Yegor.
-
No doubt, Jersey needs that kind of player. But they may not need him. Everyone is replaceable.
If Meier really insists on a maximum term with maximum money, I can see him being traded before June 30.

What about making contracts more realistic? 4 years at market value for a top D, then add 4 years at a lower fee thus accounting for age?
4 x 8
then 4 x 5.5
Well, if you look at the numbers, that's the way it is. Frontloaded with bonus payments and 5.1 million in 2030 is, adjusted for inflation, at most half the current amount.

Yes, Severson kept making stupid mistakes, but not last season. His last season was very good, so the question is whether he can maintain that level now.

Anyone like this orca with stick tail?

The NHL is simply a job carousel.

Go to Toronto!
That market is big enough for 2 teams. Start an insane rivalry and the media crowd there will finally have 2 teams to write about. Seriously

Even then, their defences fit the bill so no. All of the final 4 teams are constructed quite similarly and the Canucks are far off that mould.
Offense wins games, defense the championship.

Arizona....not. Because that team will move, sooner or later, to a better hockey market.
Vancouver...not. Because someday this franchise will learn to act better at draft day.
I go for Nashville.

I remember very well seeing the 18 year old Matthews play a very good regular season in my hometown Zurich only to disappear completely during the play offs....
Panthers in 6.

Because of my compatriots who play there, I always keep an eye on the Devils, too: the Devils will score the most goals in the regular season. What a powerhouse.
