I think the cap issues will all depend on if it goes up to 85 mill or if it's closer to 88 mill At 88 mill they could IMO add a Good piece to the defence and still keep Tanev but lose Stecher Other things factor in to, I look at a team like Ott who still has a few more years of rebuilding, if the cap goes up so does the floor. That means Ott will be looking for cheap guys again this season. After Eriksson bonus is paid he is only owed 5 mill over the next 2 seasons. That's like paying a guy 2.5mill a year but has a cap hit of 6 mill. Moreover, he can still play so he takes up a roster spot as well, minimum league salary is .700 mill so really the real cost of Eriksson is 2.5- .700, a total of 1.8 mill. Then I look at Ferland if he is done that is 3 more years on Ltir and we all know those contracts are insured. So I could also see Ferland looking pretty good to Ott. All in all that could be a 6 mill cap dump or a 3.5 mill cap dump or both at 9.5 mill cap dump. Yesterday's news and how the cap situation plays out is going to make this off season very interesting. If the Cap goes to 88 mill Ufa prices IMO are for sure to go up, this includes Marky its almost a certainty that if it goes up to 88mill Marky's contract is anywhere between .500 to 1.00 mill greater then it would have been. This is just based on other years where the Cap hit has gone up like this. Last off seasons where there was only a minor increase we saw that GMs rained in there spending. This season will look a whole lot different. Before yesterday's news I thought toffoli signing for 5-5.25 on 5-6 year term , now I think it will be closer to 5.5-6 mill on the same term.

If this Canucks fan base really looks at the stats and rosters This fan base might realize the Canucks match-up best against St.L
-
I think the Canucks are going to end up exactly where they want to be Does the Canucks want to face #1 and 2 in scoring NO so no to EDM Does the Canucks want face one of the Hottest teams in the League right now NO so no to Vegas so they need to look to the Central division Can they compete against a slower more defensive team YES so St.L looks good Can they play against a Fast but inexperience back end team Yes so Col look Good So the Canucks need to end up in the last wildcard spot.
-
your actually wrong again the odds are still in the Canucks favour because of the games they hold in hand on the other teams I would say they actually still have a 80% chance of making the playoffs

from capfriendly Tampa Bay Lightning Acquire: Marek Mazanec (Signing Rights) 2019 3rd round pick (VAN - #71 - Hugo Alnefelt) 2020 conditional 1st round pick* (VAN) *Conditions: If the Canucks do not make the playoffs in 2019-20, the 2020 1st round pick will transfer to a 2021 1st round pick instead.
-
if we fail to make the playoffs that is the condition the Canucks keep the pick automatically The Canucks don't get to choose to keep it or not

I could even make the argument that Benning has out drafted in combined total, Pat Quinn, Brian Burke, Dave Nonies and mike Gillias and yes all of them combined and he has done it in 6 years -

it could be 50 more years and no cup but this team also has the best defenceman it has ever had Petey is already further along then the Sedins at his age then when the Sedins where 21 Horvat is already further along then Kesler at 24 then Kesler was at 24 We even have more core players then when their was the sedin era and the west coast express era and still more possible core players in the system -

This is my last thought of the night Look at Nathan Mackinnon 24 years old and no cup yet Steven Stamkos 30 years old no cup yet Alex Ovechkin won the cup at 32 years old The Canucks have a possible future Norris trophy winner in Hughes 20 years old possible future Hart and Art Ross and Maurice trophy winner in Petterson 21 and a possible Selke trophy winner in Horvat 24 These guys are still young and for the most part still learning the game. This is far truer for guys like 1st year player Hughes and 2nd year player Petterson and for the next 2-3 years there are going to be bumps in the road and this fan base is going to have to except that losing is ok as long as there is also progression and no one can deny that this team and the young Core, (Horvat, Miller, Boeser, Petterrson, Virtanen, Gaud, and Hughes) have progress this season. In the beginning of this season very few believed that this team was going to compete for a playoff spot, (if you don't believe me just look back at the reaction to the Miller trade) now that they gave themselves a chance to due so, it is the fan expectations that have risen and I'm sure the players expectations have risen to but the truth is that they never really deserved to be in that spot. This team has been getting expectational goaltending and finding ways to out score their issues. But that is the fundamental problem, there are issues with this team. Most fans that follow this game closely also know that there are 2 halves to every season, the first one being before the Christmas break which can extend to the all-star break. Name it what ever you want but I call it the reckless half or the offensive half. The second half is the Defensive half or as I Iike to call it the Serious half. The good and more experience teams rise to the top and pretender weeded out. Don't get me wrong the Canucks are not pretenders but are highly inexperience. Yes some one might say but they have all these vet and that is true but the core is young and inexperience. My final and last point just to emphasize how inexperience this core is, I just ask that this fan base remembers how long it has been since this team was in the playoffs last and just how long it has been since this team has even competed for a spot in March (2015 if you cant remember) Most of this core wasn't even drafted yet which makes this the first time for most of the core and a long time for the vets who have been here for awhile. -

What every one has to remember is that this is year 1 of a 8-12 year window maybe even more Ovie didn't get the Defensive structure game for years why this fan base thinks this team shouldn't have these issues or get frustrated when they do is be on me -

The one thing that is great about all this is that the games are fun and it sure makes you think twice about turning the Channel or going to bed early -

The interesting part of this all what this fan base loves about this team is also killing them late in games Speed, Talent, High quality but also highly dangerous passes What the team lacks is a balance between all that and the Defensive structure -

In CB that was an 8 min break down of the defensive zone coverage This was a whole period, 1) they where chasing the score in the beginning 2) they where pushing to win it 3) a total collapse after they fell behind -

It's not Green It's Because the team is Green The core is being lead by youth What is going on is, the Canucks are playing fast and furious, but their recovery time is falling short. The Vets make mistakes cause their to slow and the youth make mistakes cause they haven't figured out a balance between speed and high danger passes and defensive recovery -

9 mins for Ari in offensive possession to the Canucks 4 mins I think 9 mins is more then 4 mins and the longer you have offensive possession the greater chances a team has -

Yes it could be green But more likely the players are Green the Canucks are lead by a young core Playing fast and furious, and causing high risk turn overs -

They hemmed the Canucks in their offensive zone for long stretches of time that generates lucky bounces as you call it -

Why because the advance stats say there are much bigger underlining problems then just goaltending The whole team defensive game is not working right now
