  1. Sutter's a lot more valuable than Hansen at this stage.
  2. What would it take for Vegas to pick Dorsett instead of Hansen, Baertschi or Grandlund?
  3. He sounded a fair bit more articulate in this clip.
  4. I'm completely fine with getting a second round pick for Hansen if it means keeping Grandlund. Great effort and a good goal against Colorado tonight.
  5. Vegas picking Dorsett would be ideal for this team IMO. Grandlund looks really promising as a utility top 9 guy. Sbisa is looking pretty good these days too.
  6. Isn't there an option to send Vegas a pick in order to keep them from picking a certain player?
  7. What would it take to get Vegas to take Dorsett instead of Grandlund?
  8. That was a tongue in cheek comment about Nylander. I personally am on the wait and see train when it comes to Virtanen.
  9. Someone like Alex Nylander?
  10. McKeen had him has #1 in the projections he released 5 days ago. Hischier's draft stock has steadily been on the rise, just a couple months ago he was not even listed in the top 10 in some projections.
  11. It would be a dream to draft Nolan Patrick this year, then barely miss the playoffs next year and win the draft lottery for Rasmus Dahlin.
  12. I'd like to see the Canucks pick Liljegren, can't have too many mobile, scoring Dmen IMO.

Better than having Skille IMO. And better for the organization overall to have Jake in a top 6 role in Utica.

I hope Rodin comes back soon and plays on a line with Baertschi and Horvat.
  15. Virtanen had a very good, not great, second half in his first year. The way he drove play and created open space showed us a glimpse of what type of player he could be in the coming years. It would be nice to see him put up 30+ points in his second year, but showing consistency in his game for the full year would be even better.
  16. My mistake. Compensation picks are only for first rounders. Unfortunate considering how the NCAA has emerged as such an awesome developing ground for players that need a little more playing time, like goalies. Let's hope that Benning frankly and emphatically told Demko's parents that his decision needs to be made ASAP in fairness to the team that drafted him and has from the start been honest with him about their plans for his future. From the HockeyWriters in 2012:
  17. That would certainly be weird considering the Ducks have such a young tandem in Andersen and Gibson, who at this point look like legit NHL starters (they won the Jennings Trophy this year). If Demko would really like to play for a team in his home state, the King's would seem to be a better fit for him. They have no other comparable goalie prospects and there's the chance to develop under Quick, a guy who's won 2 cups, a Conn Smyth and a Olympian. Honestly not at all stressed about whether he signs or not. If he does, awesome, end of story. If he doesn't, then we recoup a pick and Benning gets a chance to flex his awesome draft muscles. I'd just prefer Demko announce his decision sooner rather than later in order to give management a chance to go after Michael Garteig.
  18. Not at all surprised that Stetcher chose the Canucks over the Oilers. He was an integral part of UND's backend this season and I think he see's himself developing into a top 4 guy in the league someday. With Nurse, Reinhart and Klefbom pretty much locked to be Edmonton's future top 4, there's a lot more of an opportunity in Vancouver for him to play a bigger role. Looking forward to see what he brings to camp and pre-season. Hoping the Canucks have another Ben Hutton scenario with him.
  19. I haven't closely followed the whole Jimmy Vesey saga but from what I've read, Nashville's GM said Vesey repeatedly said he would sign and spurned them for Boston in the end. If Demko did something like that, made a commitment to the team and went back on it, that would be insulting to the city and organization. I want to believe Benning asked Demko at the combine, before drafting him, if he could see himself playing in Vancouver and received a positive answer.
  20. I don't really think a player's draft number affects their decision to test out free agency or not. If he chooses to go back for another year, I think the possibility of him signing will really depend on how the team's young guys perform. Whether or not he feels like the new core of this team is one he fits into and could win with.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

Jim Benning on Shinkaruk and Gaunce. “The thing he likes to do is he likes to go to the net and score. But there are other parts of his game – like, an example, Brendan Gaunce maybe doesn’t have the offensive skill set like Hunter but all the details in his game are there so when we call (Gaunce) up, he can adjust to the pro game and help our team win.” http://www.metronews.ca/news/vancouver/2016/02/22/canucks-reportedly-trade-hunter-shinkaruk-to-calgary.html Gaunce is a completely different player compared to Shinkaruk. If you've been watching Utica games after Vey was called up, Gaunce has been one of their best performers in all situations, on the pp and pk, trying to protect leads in the last minutes and breaking ties. He's been Green's go to guy. Green called him Utica's most improved player last year, he had a better pre-season and was called up before Shinkaruk. It sucks to lose Shinkaruk for Grandlund, a player we arguably don't need. But to suggest that Gaunce will also be moved as well just doesn't line up with what management has been saying about him. If Vey hadn't been acquired and played a whole season with the team, Gaunce probably would have gotten the call when Sutter went down.

Wow, it seems as though this guy gets injured every time he takes a step in the right direction. I was really rooting for him to impress at camp next year and make the team.
  23. Seems like being the local kid picked at #6 is getting to him. Couple with the fact that JV admitted himself that Higgins' injury at the start of the season was one of the reasons he made the team. Then you've got Willie D rotating him in and out of games and slotting him up and down the lineup. Give the kid a little stability and structure, like Horvat and McCann have gotten and maybe he'll stop playing so gun-shy.

    Don't forget Jensen.

Would love to see this guy replace Higgins. Also a bonus that he's a Swede. Which reminds me, I don't think Benning has drafted one in his tenure.
