And the rumour continues to gather strength, fueled by Canucks Army ..... https://canucksarmy.com/2021/07/03/report-nate-schmidt-trade-block-may-want-out-vancouver/

He is likely getting inundated with offers to do summer training and acclimatization in Vancouver, while looking for somewhere to live, and Kelowna, with Myers, Jake, et al

Apparently (Hockey Guy? D & D? - can't remember) says Buffalo hasn't yet interviewed Powers or Beniers but have had Eklund in twice

Zacha supplanted Hischier (injured for 1/2 the season) and Hughes as #1 last season according to their boards. He would likely give Green the option of moving Bo down to spread the top 9 scoring. At 6'3" and 210 he is a big body. Right age for meshing with our core, too (24) and good pedigree (drafted 6th overall in 2015) (But I did say it was a heretical thought - based on the fear that we stunt Bones growth playing behind Hughes)

Heretical thought coming....... I wonder if Rathbone makes Hughes expendable . Would NJ trade Pavel Zacha straight up (instant 3rd line center capable of moving up the lineup)?

Yeah - Biega was physical at 5'10", but he was throwing 199 lbs around. I could see Bones as a much more highly skilled Alex. (or Stecher, also the same height and 186 lbs. Not known from holding back on a check, like Motte. Always punching above their weight)

Where do you get your stats, Sid? Canucks team roster, NHL and Hockey db all have Hughes and Rathbone at the same height, but Hughes as heavier (I hope this doesn't become a thread with a life of its own like Podkolzin's height)

I like him, but trouble is, he doesn't PK. And isn't particularly good in the circle (career f/o win % is 46.5% in 84 games) His even strength misc stats are decent.... time on ice per game: 9.04 mins 77 hits in 84 games (30.47 per 60 mins) 13.65 blocked shots per 60 mins 4.17 giveaways per 60 mins 20.53 takeaways per 60 mins But those numbers don't scream "3rd or 4th line center", and we have a plethora of wingers vying for a spot on the big team, so I think Abbotsford is likely, as a depth call-up

Only if he bumps Hughes (unlikely) or Miller to the 2nd PP unit. Bones will be neutered if he is relegated to 2nd PP duties. Would rarely be on the ice. Ideally ... PP1: Horvat - Pettersson - Boeser Hughes - Rathbone PP2: Podkolzin/Pearson - Miller - Hoglander Schmidt/Juolevi - Myers Which would be good. - JT isn't going to keep quiet about getting just 15 secs of icetime each PowerPlay. And I know Podz has played the point in U-20 PPs, but that was as 1st unit. You don't want a forward playing defence when the penalized player comes out if the box after a successful kill.

Fansided's take ... https://thecanuckway.com/2021/06/30/canucks-could-the-team-be-without-brogan-rafferty-next-year/

It wasn't Benning's decision to play/not play him, but Green's, and we know how TG loves his vets (Benning did have him up in the taxi squad) Watch Rafferty get signed as a UFA by Seattle and become their Theodore, and challenge QH for the Norris in a few years!!!

Lol - I have, a few times (still in frequent contact with the mother of my godson, now a 14 yr old boy, in Ekaterinburg. She is the English language tutor who last summer was giving zoom lessons to Russian army recruits, and a few of the Avtomobolist hockey team & their wives/gfs. Been there a couple of times, a really nice city)
-
And he speaks Russian (at least, he used to yell "backcheck, backcheck" in Russian all the time to Goldy when they were on Petey's line in his rookie season)
-
So it appears that Brogan and the Canucks will be parting company See Button on D & D .....

Benning on Sportsnet 650 with Halford & Brough - June 24, 2021
Googlie replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah - this appeared in the Skate a couple of years ago ..... Sometimes it’s about more than just playing There are a lot of reasons why players keep playing. Mostly it’s about how much fun they’re having. But it can also be about their bigger financial picture. I’m pretty amazed this flew under the radar like it did: Loui Eriksson’s restaurant chain lost a ton of money in 2018 and while it did do better in 2019, he was still in the red. One of the first things Eriksson did after signing his big contract in 2016 was to become the lead investor in the five-location chain. But the restaurants almost immediately ran into trouble: the former owner was arrested on sexual assault charges against underage girls. The authorities rescinded the restaurants’ liquor licences, leading to a year-over-year decline in revenue of more than $8 million. Revenues rebounded slightly in the latest reporting period — up to August 2019 — but that 2017-18 loss surely stings. -
Maybe, like a moth to a flame, working on an OEL deal again?????
-
But we don't know what buyout budget FA might have given Benning. $3 or $4 million wouldn't do both. And, realistically, if Seattle doesn't take Holtby, is his buyout charge, then the cost of a back up, going to free up that much? It isn't in the Club's or Mikey's interests to be gatekeeper for 50 games in Vancouver - he needs to play 50 games in Abbotsford
-
Yeah, right. At 2.27 giveaways per 60 mins, he's second in giveaways to only Brisebois (5.20), Rafferty (4.29) - a limited sample of just 1 game each with negligible ice time - then Schmidt (3.75), Rathbone (2.90) and Hughes (2.81). The much maligned Chatfield was best among all of our defencemen (0.74 giveaways per 60 mins) Myers turning the puck over is the least of our defensive problems
