  1. FWIW, Switzerland, pop 8.6 million, had 127 new cases on Friday. Alberta, pop 4.4 million, had 77 new cases. Maybe Baertschi feels safer at home
  2. Obviously skill level isn't the same in the lesser leagues, but the intensity is comparable So, a couple of other winners to add to Beagle, Pearson and Toffoli ..... Petey was MVP in The Swedish league playoffs Marky took Utica to the Calder Cup finals
  3. Canucks would be paying his salary, as with Palmu. The postulation in the interview was that he signs, but doesnt make the big team and the AHL doesnt start up, so he goes to Sweden
  4. Great prescience, DbtR ..... now, look into your crystal ball and forecast the play-in and the SC results!!
  5. Keeping your highest ranked non-protected player isn't nothing. If allowing Seattle to grab Demko let's us retain, say, Gaudette or Virtanen, would a trade get us a better player/prospect?
  6. This one might have an asterisk anyway, if one of the "play-in" teams win, 'cos they will need to win 5 rounds. I think it would be awesome if Canucks win, empty building in Vegas (or wherever) or not.
  7. Back in mid May many people thought so. See ..... https://www.kqed.org/science/1963504/flattening-the-curve-bought-california-time-to-prepare-for-future-surge
  8. If you looked at today's US C-19 statistics, it is only just beginning. Poor California. We thought we had flattened the curve, so we reopened the beaches, bars and restaurants and today saw the highest ever number of new cases in one day.
  9. My recollection is that Lind played mostly on a line with Jasek and Bailey
  10. Begs the question ..... if the AHL starts next season in, say, November, and the NHL in January, will teams send their big club waiver-exempt players to kick start their farm teams for the first 15 or 20 games? Would Petey and QH still be exempt next season?
  11. Although fingered as the culprit, I thought it turned out to be Patrik Laine
  12. Spawning a new breakfast cereal Hohopodz (hard, abrasive and runs right through you)
  13. Wow - some great goals!! And hustle/determination Larianov's comparison to a young Mark Messier don't look out of place at all
  14. But what if next season is still in full flight mid August? Does he still become a UFA (that was the point WTP was making - does the league defer these UFA dates lest he be able to sign with another club, eg Boston, whereas pre Covid-19 he couldn't sign with anyone but us while the season was still underway)
  15. Not sure he "bolted" ..... he had known communications problems with Cull, and it didn't help that his buddy, Gadjovich, had trouble cracking the Utica line up that season (injuries, and indifferent play) so a mutual decision was made that he would return to Finland. But you are right, he wasn't invited to training camp last September, and I don't see him in Benning's future plans, so I doubt he will be resigned after his ELC expires
  16. I have never found them in post-game stats or in the AHL records. Sometimes the commentators give the current game stats, and a couple of times I have tried to record them while watching, but that does take dedication.
  17. Well we did win the President's Trophy the year following, and were first seed for the playoffs, but got bumped by the Kings in the 1st round, winning just 1 game. (Was the 3rd consecutive playoffs we got beaten by the eventual SC Champions) After that it was downhill, but I remember for that following season we did engender a lot of hope, only to be easily crushed.
  18. Just don't re-sign Toffoli. Doesn't that solve this pending problem?
  19. Will the Canucks hold their resumption training camp in Utica? Would certainly avoid the Canadian quarantine problems. And upstate NY has fared much better than the city
  20. From today's Edmonton Journal (on whether Chicago's recently signed Mitchell could play on resumption: “I can tell you that as of right now, our position, and this is something we’re going to have to ultimately resolve with the NHL Players’ Association like so many other contractual issues, but our position, the League’s position right now, and our position with our clubs since the start of the pause, is no club is entitled to sign a current‑year contract,” NHL vice-president Bill Daly said during a Zoom call with reporters. “They are free to sign future‑year contracts, so for the 2020‑21 season and beyond, perfectly fair game. “But it would be our position, particularly given the advanced date and given the fact it could affect a lot of the players who might now be able to play the balance of the season, it may be unfair to let them play the balance of the season. We’ve progressed past the trade deadline. Each team has kind of set its roster. Its roster reflects — and everybody will come back healthy, which is a benefit to the teams — its roster really reflects its efforts in the 2019‑20 season. And to add a couple of, for lack of a better term, ‘ringers’ when you’re going into the playoffs is not the best way for sports to proceed in our view.”
  21. We had our own "bearded wonder" down in Utica last season. Anyone remember Saucerman?
  22. I read an interesting stat the other day (can't remember where - Kuzma, maybe?) .... In 71 mins of ice time being paired together (equating to 5 games at 16 mins per game - although obviously fewer minutes in more games) Stecher and Fantenberg were never scored on. Not sure what that says but it did intrigue me Ah - found it ... The Daily Hive: Oscar Fantenberg – Troy Stecher EV TOI: 72:40 CF%: 47.3% xGF%: 41% It’s a bit of a turtle race to decide who plays with Troy Stecher on the third pairing, but the slight nod goes to Fantenberg. Benn and Stecher had their struggles together, while this suggestion has less of a track record together. Some of the defensive numbers aren’t great, but it’s worth noting that the pair hasn’t been on the ice for a goal against. They’re both good puck movers and they’ve allowed fewer scoring chances than all the Canucks pairings that don’t include Hughes. Here's the link to the full article; https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/best-canucks-defence-pairs
  23. As an aside, if Stecher isn't resigned, I wonder what Edler and Tryamkin would be like as a pairing. I can't remember if they were ever together in Tree's first stint with us.
  24. One of the things I liked about his play is that he is an agitator. Post whistle he was always in the goalie's, or a defender's, face. Couple of times I heard the Utica commentator say "and here's Lind, doing his usual Lind stuff". I see a future for him with Gaudette and Roussel/Virtanen as a Pest Line.
  25. Poor Quinn Hughes. He must be despondent carrying the stigma of being a negative player..... -10 over his entire NHL career
