Just like Biega !! One beautiful reversal last game that left the forechecker gasping

The real question is: Will Pettersson-Hughes be regarded eventually with the same reverence as Gretzky-Coffey?

Gudbranson NOW officially The WORST PLAYER in the League
Googlie replied to RU SERIOUS's topic in Canucks Talk
Ok - Gudbranson overlapped with Pettersson for 5 mins 20 secs of his 12 mins 11 secs on the ice (out of Petey's 22 mins 21 secs icetime). I say "overlapped" cos I don't think you can classify the 9 secs or 5 secs at shift change into a 50 second Petey shift as Green putting out Guddy with Petey to shelter him from his mistakes. Guddy started 6 shifts with Petey in the Arizona game, as you rightly say, 3 of Petey's first 4 shifts in the game were with Guddy and Sautner behind them. And the separation came well before the Coyotes first goal, when Canucks were up 1 - 0. Guddy and Sautner started backing Granlund and Beagles lines until the start of the 3rd period. No matter. We see what we see, colored by our biases. I have never been a Guddy fan (not a Pouliot's, come to that) - I just react to their bashing here when my eyes tell me otherwise -
Gudbranson NOW officially The WORST PLAYER in the League

The trouble (one of the troubles) with our defense corps is inability to get the puck out of our zone. The ring around the boards, or down the boards seems to be the only option much of the time, and if the winger can't deflect it deep at the center line, icing is the result. (It would be interesting to see # icings per game throughout the league - the old eye test would suggest we would be among the leaders). Right now our best skating d- men at getting the puck into the o-zone are Stetcher and Biega. Pouliot has wheels, but circles more than advances, often turning back into forechecking trouble. Hutton is adequate in most areas - skating, pick handling, shot, passing, hitting. Guddy stands out for all the wrong reasons - below average skater, poor passer, and decision maker, not a top notch puck handler, but does play the body often enough and can pin oppo forwards against the boards. We do miss Edler. For all the flak he takes here, he does check all of the boxes. Biggest drawback is that when he gets overused, his brain becomes sluggish and that's when the glaring errors kick in (but at least be seems to have cured the "breaking stick" curse) So in EG's case, he needs to be paired with a skating d-man, and unfortunately both Stetch and Bulldog are rhd, as is Guddy. Which suggests that Hughes will be his partner when he signs. Or next season, Oj. I wonder if #44 could handle the heavy minutes if paired regularly with Edler? I don't remember how much ice time they got when a unit at the end of last season (and am too lazy to look it up), but my somewhat imperfect memory suggests they were pretty good together. But I don't see Pouliot as being resigned. Edler, Hutton, Hughes, OJ, Sautner - too much of a logjam on the left to warrant Pouliot. A shame, cos he does have skill. That's my take anyway, fwiw -

If the topic title had been "What should be our defense pairings to round out the season" it would have better described the discussion. This isn't really a "Gudbranson" thread, more "is he really our worst defenseman? Is Green deploying his defensive assets to get the best out of everyone? Is Sautner really a viable replacement for Edler? Where does Hughes slot in? Etc etc At least that's what I have been reading from my cave -
Gudbranson NOW officially The WORST PLAYER in the League

The feed I get in Palm Springs must be from a different source. Islanders game, Pettersson was on the ice for 2 of his 21 shifts with #44. Hutton and Stecher were his d-men the majority of his shifts Coyotes game, 6 of his 26 shifts had Guddy on the ice -

Then it's such a shame that Guddy isn't on the ice when Petey is -

But. But. Sautner is the future. (Isn't he?) Pair him with Edler when he returns. They were a pretty effective pairing end of last season. And tell Edler that if he wants a 4 year contract he has 15 games to turn Guddy to no worse than a -10 for the season (sign him now to 2 years with an automatic season's end 2 year extension if Guddy achieves that milestone) When Tanev returns, give him Pouliot or Sautner (or any other Utica callup) to mentor -

Not really. - lind drew a penalty with a nice puck possession play, and Gadjl has been playing. But haven't seen Dahlen this period yet (prolly just missed him) Darcy and Gaudette the 2 best faceoff men, so they are seeing a lot of ice time -
