  1. why the hell would the league play the only 2 teams to win from today (Sunday) , to play on Tuesday … when clearly the fair way would be to play them Wednesday, a 3 day rest like everyone else.
  2. Just to add : Avs had 8 players with over 21 mins on ice.. The Kracken had 3 .
  3. Damn, came here to post that exact same opinion Stanley.. I’m sure they’ll try to keep him, he is RFA , but his numbers, with the right opportunity could pop a lid next season. I think watching and understanding what K Hollands needs are next season, might free him up.. Otherwise , perhaps Kostin (24?) stays and the Oilers move Draistyl ( 27- Modified Clauses for 2 more seasons) to re-up their drafting power before they resign him. Still think the Oilers need a Goalie.
  4. I beleive that it may have been a “fluke” year for him personally,. But it was not a “fluke” for management and coaching to place him in a position to have a high percentage run, to “shop”Horvat for a trade because he was holding out in contract negotiations. I think we are all realizing this now. Some saw this happening in real time, some see it after the fact.
  5. … just to remind us of the fact we picked Oli Joulevi before Tkachuk was picked next .. a power forward we needed just as much as a D man.
  6. I might be on the contrary of recent opinions here , but out of the 3 .. Boeser , Garland , Beauviller, id keep Beau over the other 2. Beauviller is all performance, whether he is contributing points wise or not,. He seems fully engaged in every game. dollar for dollar the best value above Brock or Connor. Im far past my empathy for Boeser now, I think he was placed with Miller as Horvat was, to up his points and value. Yes, I have seen him more engaged over the last month of hockey, but I think he will be easily replaced through a rising prospect in the near future. If he brings back a 2nd rnd pick, or good D prospect I’d be happy to see that 6 m in cap space used more productively.
  7. .. and here I heard he was “playoff Bo” ? .. I doubt his regular season ever gets better than 40 pts.. clearly he was pumped to dump here. Great job by Canucks Management to identify the player to trade and make it worth more.
  8. I think the only question remaining is how long it takes to fire Lou Amarillo.. can we bet on that
  9. I think he is worth spending the time with.. nice to see the franchise coming up to snuff with a full development program. Finally being located within 2 hours of the Canuck staff, hands , eyes and ears ,. Is going to make the biggest difference to this entire organization. It was a Deep move, that will have the most resounding difference with the Canucks.
  10. In his last 5 games B Burns has 7 points. He has 5 points (including today) in this series so far..…. Burns going into Beast mode again.
  11. Cheers Deb,. I’m up in Squamish , Shaw seems to include it at certain times, and then it disappears in other times.…. I’ve never been too happy with Shaw. Hopefully some standard changes coming with the “merger” with Rogers
  12. Oh I totally agree, I’ve mentioned before that this contract ensures we have Miller to help with this culture change for 3-4 seasons ? before his clauses open up to move.. its the perfect scenario for player and team. I think we will still get good value for Miller IF he is moved in his clause years, but we get the greatest contribution value from him now as this team rises. If we are in the thick mix of playoff positions within the next 4 years, I think we keep him for a cup drive.
  13. Thanks Rekker,. There was a time not too long ago I thought that culture was rising here again,. It was the time of the West Coast Express, JovoCop , and hand fulls of other characters willing to step up aggressively to win . The Bertuzzi incident was unfortunate, But many incidents happened to contribute to that one .. The outcome of that was a City of fans who loved a player , turned their back on him.. They / We should have stood with that soldier and allowed him the forgiveness he rightfully deserved, and helped to rally his game back where and what he was,. One of the best power forwards this franchise has seen. Shortly after that team dismantled, and Gillis “retooled” into the 2011 Final. Amazing actually. but then … somewhere , somehow .. we went soft. I often wonder if it’s more due to scouting,. and perhaps them leading management away from a style , to one that is thought to be the way THE LEAGUE is progressing to “no fighting” or more skillfull players, and tighter rules.. But the real truth to how this game is played rises every playoff season, it’s Physical Fast and Mean. And no team , including ours should create a culture any less than that.
  14. Agree, and sometimes a Captain only needs to drop a handful of times to show what he’s capable of . Didnt Toews have Byfuglien as an assistant back then? They had a tough culture team regardless. Thats the difference. Toews still evoked that style of physical culture.
  15. Didn’t Jay Beagle came here the same year Horvat was given the Cataincy,. Jay or Alex Edler would have been my interm picks until Bo’ game got close to prime without distractions.
  16. Vegas seems to acquire many leaders,. Jack Eichel, Alex Pietrangelo, even Fluery (G) pop into mind, besides Stone. Expansion teams are built on Veteran presence , it’s their only option. Hard not to pick many leaders in the process of Expansion. Linden had Stan Smyl as a mentor, I think he lived and rode to the rink with Stan and his family for 3 years lol,. Even though Linden was younger, in comparison to Horvats experience,. Linden was learning deep in a culture of physical hockey that’s been lost here. Horvats short “mentorship” was with the silent , emotionally controlled Sedins. Not knocking them as the great players they are,. But if taking headshots and skating away is the culture this franchise was to keep promoting, .. i find it demoralizing and not what this sport is about. It is one of the last “true warrior sports” that remain in the world. I go back to something I posted earlier in this thread, Gillis was trying to acquire Shane Doan the year before Horvat was drafted.. I think Gillis realized then the need to bring some “culture” back to this city , that was getting overlooked.
  17. Sorry , don’t and will not agree with you on THE “C” being a symbolic gester. The Captain is there to rally out and call out ( positively and negatively) his players and set an example of the type of game the majority of your players need to play. Historically, for many years, that has been the leadership that other team mates look to , he gives direction and passes on information from Coaches directly, and gives it back to Coaches. He is a “conduit” for the culture of a team that Management has makes a template for. You’ve named 2 expansion clubs , that generally these days get the advantage of picking from all teams in the NHL . I would guess without looking at a roster that many types have been picked to ensure a high level of leadership in starting those franchises in new cities. Im guessing many have previously been Captains or Assistants on their previous teams. I think once teams like Vegas or Seattle have developed their own Draft picks to succeed in those leadership groups, you may potentially see a Captain rise.
