2018-19 Utica Comets Thread
SilentSam replied to stonecoldstevebernier's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I have always thought Boucher to have a great shot good to see Reid putting up good numbers, I do hope he gets another shot with the Canucks, sometimes timing is everything. Is Brendan Woods our property, FA, or Carolina’s? Thats a strong kid if I can remember, that can contribute in today’s game. -
If next years D core rolls in solid.. the following 3 -5 years is setting up nicely with prospects.. i really, really like the way Schenn played at the end of season. His physical / mental dimeanor and exceptional defensive play was everything right about the way to play clean aggressive hockey and, play the game. Pencil Schenn in on he same team as Tryamkin, Schenn would be the perfect mentor for Nik.

Let’s get this back on track,. I found a couple of interesting snip it’s from a little earlier this year.. Dec 2018. Notice anything Canadian about the Jacket or the mittens in this pic? Gotta love dreamers!! Oh, and there’s this small crease broo-hah posted in the link by Niks wife

2019 NHL Draft Lottery | April 9th, 5:00pm PT
SilentSam replied to Roberts's topic in General Hockey Discussion
..and to add, the Oilers continue on the same sorry path. It just proves that it does not help to continue with the help/ or reward of drafting high continuously to lower ranking teams... that said, does not transfer the overall game competition for the entire league. -
2019 NHL Draft Lottery | April 9th, 5:00pm PT
SilentSam replied to Roberts's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I think we all realize it can be a draft lottery, for the teams that actually need it to be.. but there are scenarios being played out that are continuously rewarding teams for bottoming out.. that’s wrong.. even a 2 strikes rule where you draft in the top 5 twice in 5 years should move you to the middle of the pack in all standings. -

2019 NHL Draft Lottery | April 9th, 5:00pm PT
SilentSam replied to Roberts's topic in General Hockey Discussion
The Lottery is looking more like pie on the face of Bettman, and has been for some time now.. He definitely needs to listen to what Brian Burke has been saying,. Burkey did have a position in the office of the NHL at one time,. If Bettman was a better man, and think pragmatically he would drop his arrogance and “little man” bravado, and listen to a colleague with more experience in this great game. That’s how things change for the better. -

Sestito went with MacKewan.. Cant appreciate Tom’s “Tittle Belt” pose,. There’s got to be 15 years difference between the two.. Hats off to Zack. https://mobile.twitter.com/i/topics/tweet/1114350058697252865?cn=ZmxleGlibGVfcmVjcw%3D%3D&refsrc=email

Let’s not dwindle on what has passed, regardless of the truth or falseness of rumours from 2-3 years ago.. The Canucks have a bright future ahead .. Having Tryamkin back sooner than later would be a powerful move.

The extensive length of this injury to Sutter leans to him never being near “there” again.

[Proposal] Demko for Ristolainen
SilentSam replied to aGENT's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Just sounds like moving a Goalie in the short term creates more weaknesses than strengths on this team at a time we need to be looking forward to getting mid-pack in the playoffs. I get that Demko could and more than likely be replaced by a “pick up” if by your proposal we move him. But it dosent make sense to weaken that position at this point. Sign Markstrom for 5 years,. Move him as an asset in 3, let Demko take it from there. -
[Proposal] Demko for Ristolainen
SilentSam replied to aGENT's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Not understanding this Agent, why? For the first time in years we are developing progressive depth at the Goalie position, one with the pairing we have now could possibly support the direction of this team from a position of 1-2 strength for 3 to 4 years. Attrition at this depth is what you want to create, and I think that is what Benning is doing. Hypothetically,. Take Demko out of the situation,. We go shopping again, possible waiver loss scenarios,. Markstrom is about to put on the Beast suit,. but he isn’t immune from injuries in this game,.. and 82 games? The “Team” needs strength from this position, if we don’t have the depth and strength we have now, we kick the wedge out of the door and chance where it blows open to. Its the strength at this position that is detrimental to the strength of this entire Team.. there is no one else I would rather have than Demko, as our #2 playing 20 - 30 games, or possibly more due to that nasty IR list that can kill teams at this position. We have already had a lesson in chaos when we traded Nillsen. Our D core is about to change drastically, 1 acquisition, someone who can shoot.. and I don’t think we have to trade the strength of the goaltending position, or it’s prospects away to get it. I would take from the position of D and it’s prospects or players to get it. pick up Myers, use Myers as an asset when or if Tryamkin returns, or keep them both and move Schenn. We are actually in the great position of having options of strength in all positions, if each position has his movement on and off the Team, handled as a Department of the Team, and dealt with accordingly. -
As a 'Nucks-Backer, What Burns Your Bacon?
SilentSam replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Canucks Talk
Sick of Getzlaff , he has “accidentally / on purpose “ put Jake out of the game twice with injuries.. Looking forward to “Mano-Mano” retribution day. -
Everything your pointing to gives us the reasons for Desjardins firing,. I remember the perplexed looks on Benning in the Brass Box when WD would throw certain guys out in situational play,. He even seemed to be questioning Linden on Desjardins reasoning. Whom, I beleive Linden tried to protect. its important in Sports and Buisness to recognize what is doing you more harm than good.. There are times you need to make pragmatic decisions on side with the right one. Its unfortunate that we lost Tryamkin for this time, for his own reasoning.. but there is an opportunity here that I hope Benning explains well to Nik, and tries to get him back in a Canuck Jersey sooner than later.
-
The “kid”. Is working on his game.. everyone wants a McDavid. The player we all want to see out of Jake is coming, his game is tested by bigger stronger “men” or dicks like Getzlaf.. He is working through that. 26-30 will be prime years for Jake in this new League. Just wanted to show that Desjardins still has an “air” of adversity to his communication with players in the NHL.. and that Tryamkin has been watching our team all season.. really hope he arrives sooner than later,. Him and Schenn would look good shared on 1-2 pairings.

Tryamkin has always left the door to Canucks open: As more time passes, I think it's increasingly clear that Desjardins doesn't communicate with guys who somehow end up in his doghouse. For example, in L.A.: Kovalchuk is on pace for 42pts, good for third among L.A. forwards. Instead Desjardins goes with seven defensemen on the league's lowest scoring team. Virtanen has also said that Desjardins rarely talked to him. Remember the "stuff" fiasco? Desjardins loves the Derek Dorsetts of the world, guys who earn their spots through their work ethics and fighting spirit. And players like Kovalchuk/ Virtanen/ Tryamkin can certainly learn from that. But it seems like if you're not immediately a Jonathan Toews then Desjardins rather bench you until you "get it" instead of working with you. A few months after Tryamkin left: For all the hoopla around Tryamkin wanting more ice time, his main concern might've actually been the lack of direction from Desjardins. It's one thing to not play as much as you'd like, it's another to not know why or how you can earn more time. I think it's pretty obvious that Tryamkin didn't know what Desjardins was thinking, and perhaps he didn't want to spend key developmental years in an uncertain situation. This is a guy who traveled to the draft combine even though he was not invited and was passed up the previous two years. He came to development camp even though he barely knew any English. He wanted to play in the NHL, but hockey is a short career and stagnating at any job is a terrible feeling. However, he's expressed multiple times that he still follows the Canucks, so if the situation is right I don't see why he can't be brought back on a one or two year contract. There's not a lot to lose but tons to gain for both sides. I appreciate everything you have Quoted here GA. ... Thank you.

You think Eriksson would do us the favour of showing up out of shape, nullifying the contract, maybe working out a buyout ?

Schenn looked VERY happy to be here in his interview last night.. You can tell he is taking this opportunity to heart and giving it all. 29 bah! He just grown into his adult body, he is the strongest he will ever be,. And he plays like it. plays like the Diduck, Jovo, Rome’s we have seen, determined grit his every shift. Kypreos commented on Schenns skating as being “not the best”... I see nothing wrong with the way he skates, he tracks with anyone, reads his angles well. Lets give Luke a new home.
-
If he becomes a UFA again just before the Expansion draft , being off the books when the expansion draft happens should give us the opportunity to resign him after the expansion team makes their plucks and picks. Maybe this scenario works if he wanted to stay, I don’t think we could protect him?
-
Stawns, he has been quoted here as saying he watches every Canucks game he can, has been all season.. much easier to do on vacation VS practice time or game travel.
-
Offer Schenn a 2 year with an option to sign for 3 and/or be traded to a Cup Contender if we aren’t there yet.. I’d go 2m per. Im really impressed by Schenn, it’s the best hockey I’ve seen him play.. some times you gotta wait for the ripe ones.
