[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
SilentSam replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
By getting a better RHD who is happy to rotate out of the line from time to time.. We might have a good prospect step up next season.. .. and then there is the Tryamkin UFA option on a 1 year contract. -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat

I’m sure Ep will be at or close to max long term, But ,. It might be wise for him to sign a 2 year, as that Max payout rises . just saying. -

Maybe the Islanders are trying to fire Lou before that deal is approved. -

I’m happy to see Joshua on that line,. Definitely net presence will increase,. he deserves the opportunity.. and could develop into something special with this. -

I wonder if Lazar gets a chance to jump up.. I wouldn’t mind him with Miller. Keeps EP with Kuzmenko and Beauviller, Aman has been called, see how this unfolds. -

So you’d rather risk than have the clear patience to wait for him to be Captain. Thats part of the problem we inherited with Horvat. -

Then consider him “mentored” from Bo’s quiet ways , and lack of reaction, or argument .… Bo mentored from the Sedins quiet ways of take a punch, and another, and another.. EP , I’m sure will eventually don the C, But let him be who he is, and support his quality of self respect To concentrate on his training, his development, his game , without distractions, to become the best player he can. -

You would risk his development. There are other events and socials where a Captain is expected , usually taking up valued downtime for a player. Looks great as a fan or cheerleader, but EP dose not need those assignments expected of a Captain, Personally I’d protect him from all of that , and the before mentioned for a few more years. He can concentrate on his game, his shot, and his physical strength,. his introverted nature is part of his success.. and might be more of the reasoning behind teams , like this one is, embracing the “leadership group” approach. Something Tochett has said. -

I don’t get it,. it just feels desperate. but perhaps he feels he - or the Islanders without Lou , can rebuild better with Bo , Barzal, and Sorokin next season. … could be a great pick for us next season. Is their a time limit on when they have to tell us we get this years or next? -

no Miller is not my boy.. but he projects the best for Captancy on this team. I don’t care if EP raised the cup this season, give him all the medals, and dress him up as you feel fancy to. Lol He is not ready to lead men, and be outspoken a time, with clarity , and without all the cliches used. What we’re you doing at 24 yrs old lol. Let him grow into it with a solid mentor beside him wearing the C. -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat
SilentSam replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Just No. Hes still lost and broken English when he speaks.. it will take him off his game .. you’re willing to throw him to the journalists in this city.. im not. Miller handles that well,. Very well,. And was THE ONE FIRST outspoken to tell the team and NHL that their quick return to playing after a lengthy Covid quarantine was dangerous to all of their players. Miller FIRST raised that flag, and his outspokenness, still echoes as to how much he cares about his players. ITS a huge role, You don’t just dish it because someone score, or they were drafted here.. that’s favoritism . And unappealing to me, and should be to this management group. EP will get his time, it’s just not yet,. Not the time to be looking for a new teddy bear in EP. -

My thoughts on how this plays out.. The Islanders will not be able to trade Horvat with that contract. The Islanders will miss the playoffs. The Islanders will fire Lou Lamorella. The Islanders will be in chaos and keep this draft pick (a top ten). The Islanders will tear down around Horvat , Barzal, and Sorokin. We will get a top 5 1st round pick next season, which plays out better for our development and timeline for new prospects. -

I appreciate your quote even more knowing the fan you are Deb.… and also realizing, that yes, Bo had been a “favorite “ of your for many years. But a lot of us “stallward” fans, like yourself who have watched the different “eras” this franchise has rolled out, realize the intensity it took to get to those 3 cup finals, and know that same intensity is needed. Nobody should question intensity, it shows integrity . .. and I think it’s something Bo missed in any kind of mentorship to him becoming Captain. Let’s throw a C on Miller for 3 years, and then if we have to , give it to Petey then.… but EP does not need that responsibility yet, he is too young, and still developing.. As was Bo when he got the C. -

That’s the problem with the culture here Jack , ”our boy”.. we have literally adopted characters and created identities for them. ”favorites”. A lot of times has nothing to do with working performance. a player like Garland or Motte gives everything , every night .. but they’re more expendable than someone not performing or playing well. im not trying to point you out with this ,. But trying to explain the landscape mentality of some of our fan base. Its our culture as fans, as well as our players in the dressing room , that is changing.. and I appreciate that. -

Would be nice if more fans in this city got behind JT a little more .. he really is a driving force,. Almost a “throwback” that way, and exactly what this team needs. His consistency almost proves that in 3 or 4 years, JT is an asset to keep as a driver on our playoff runs, or, move him for perhaps something even better than what Horvat returned. I honestly think , keeping JT is a win for the players/ team.. management, and JT . -

Management did well.. No Way we sign him for that.. not worth it to anyone on the league. Lou has to check his meds. The only way I’m MORE surprised about the way this unfolds , is if Lou could possibly move him with that contract now. The fans in Long Island know hockey .. if I was a fan there I’d be going ballistic. -

So if we “could have signed” to that , Why didn’t he? This is a contract for next season, as is JT’s. Bo wanted to play , not sign, boost his earnings.. for money. The Canucks probably would have signed him too for that. Bo and His agent were not in a hurry. JT was always negotiating. Bo was not. -
