  1. Good points. And it's also harder to score there than one might think from glancing at FtG's numbers, since he seems to have made a number of arithmetic errors in his PPG calculations, all in favour of his agenda. Coincidence I'm sure.
  2. Not very much. Not to mention that Gaunce is probably not finished turning out yet.
  3. Nothing to apologize for. Your lowest quality posts are still better than about 95% of the other posts on this forum. I agree with what you said, and you saved me the trouble of writing a post that wouldn't have been as good as yours.
  4. It also may indicate that JB is considering trading for another 1st round pick somewhere between 6 and 15. Which would likely please almost everyone, at least until he makes the picks.
  5. You know you're on the right track when you get up voted by several Canucks fans and down voted by a couple of the Canucks haters/trolls.
  6. He does look pretty slick. And he doesn't seem shy about going to the net either. I think I was about a third of the way through this clip before I saw him score from more than about a foot outside the blue paint.
  7. Sounds like pure speculation. But even if it's true that there have been conversations, who is to say that Dallas didn't initiate them because they would like to trade their lottery ticket for some immediate help?
  8. You know this for a fact do you? Since there won't be any evidence about this for at least several more years, you must have a great crystal ball. Maybe you could also share with us some tips on which stocks will be ten baggers this year.
  9. Yeah, you have to laugh at all the simple minded people who rant on endlessly about "just pick the BPA". Apparently players each have a number tattooed on their forehead that shows exactly how good their NHL career will be. I guess the GMs just need to be clever enough to lift up each player's hair and peek at the magic number.
  10. To be fair, they also hate on men in their thirties, coaches, management and owners, as long as they are Canucks. It's not just Jake.
  11. From looking at most of his posts he hasn't changed much.
  12. My prediction is that whoever JB picks, there will be endless screams of outrage from the usual armchair GMs/haters who will use the pick as proof positive that JB must be fired.
  13. Absolutely. Considering the very short length of most NHL careers, a player would need to really hate the team that drafted him, or be really stupid, to give up one or two or three years of that career/income to wait until he's a free agent and sign elsewhere.
  14. When Bo was drafted, he was acknowledged to be strong on his skates, but one report stated that his "top end" speed needed improvement, while another report described the deficiency as being in his "straight ahead" speed. But I agree with you about Brock. While I would be happy to see some improvement in his skating, it appears to be good enough for the NHL, especially considering his hockey smarts. And I, too, believe that unless he regresses badly, he doesn't need any AHL time. I expect him to produce about 10% of the Canucks goals next year.
  15. It wasn't just CDC making up complaints about Bo's skating. A number of the pre-draft scouting reports stated that his skating, while improved, could still use some more improvement. And like the twins before him, he did make a substantial improvement in his skating during one off season.
  16. McEneny looks pretty promising, but there doesn't seem to be room for both him and OJ on the Canucks blue line. Because I don't think the NHL allows 2 defensemen on the same team to wear the same number. Makes it too difficult for the play by play guys.
  17. You repeatedly used the word "teenager". Brock is not a teenager. He is 20 and very mature for his age. He has already spent years developing his game at the university level, playing against men in their early 20s. Using a "one size fits all" cookie cutter method of developing players is unreasonable. In Brock's limited time in the NHL he demonstrated NHL level skills and responsibility, and led the team in goal scoring. Forcing him to play in the AHL for one tenth of the money he deserves, even though he is clearly NHL-ready, especially when his family needs the money, is quite likely to alienate him. That is not a smart way to deal with an extremely valuable prospect.
  18. I'm quite sure Bure wasn't. I remember how shocked everyone was at the strength he demonstrated in the bench press.
  19. I don't really disagree, but I do remember a California road trip a couple of years ago when the Canucks tried that and spent much of the road trip playing 3 on 5. That strategy works much better when you are one of Buttman's favoured teams.
  20. 3 scoring lines and one checking line is an idea I could get behind. Ideally with at least one of the scoring lines being a 2 way line. I think the 5 minute per game crash and bang 4th line is as outdated as the dedicated enforcer.
  21. I think you guys are a bit quick to discard this kid Baer, who was 4th on the team in points and 3rd in goals, in only 68 games, and still seems to be improving.
  22. At one time the consensus was that the earth was the centre of the universe and the moon was made of green cheese. That's how accurate consensus is. Which is why, rather than relying on the "consensus" picks, the Canucks hired a GM who has demonstrated that he is better than the consensus at evaluating young players.
  23. That's the first I've head about money being the reason Tram left. Considering that he is almost certainly making less money than he would have in the NHL, that doesn't make any sense at all. Where did this "agree with JB, 4-5 mill" come from?
  24. Yeah, that's some serious asset management. Take a 9th round pick and an undrafted free agent, get a decade or so of good use from each of them, everywhere from the 4th line to the 1st line, then when they are in their thirties trade them for a couple of shiny new future top 6 wingers. If there was a handbook for new GMs, the Burr and Badger acquisitions, usage and dispositions would be case studies in the asset management chapter.
  25. Perceived fairness to the players should also be a factor. If a player is clearly ready to play in the NHL, and he is kept in the AHL playing for one tenth of the salary he has demonstrated he is worth, it is very likely to produce resentment. Fully justified resentment, especially considering how short NHL careers are, even without losing a big chunk to the minors. How do you think that will play out a few years down the road when you're trying to sign this player to his next contract? Or maybe trying to sign his friends?
