Actually it's NOT safe to say he's a bust. Many players take longer to develop. Have you noticed how Kassian is playing lately? Forget McJesus, where do you think the Oilers would be without Kass? Try down 3 games to none. Or maybe check to see what the only 2 players to ever win Art Ross trophies in Canucks uniforms were doing when they were In their early 20's. Many short sighted people were calling the twins busts when they were years older than Jake is right now. The "worth having in the lineup" was referring to the way he is playing right now. A few years from now I expect Jake to be extremely valuable.
-
Yup. Even if he doesn't rack up a lot of points, if he's throwing his trademark devastating hits without getting caught out of position, and drawing more penalties than he's taking, he's worth having in the lineup.
-
Sounds great, but I would be happy if he even has a demigod season. Lol.
-
I'm hoping that big step is to the NHL. He has already shown that his physical play means he can be a useful player at the AHL level, even without much point production. If he can do the same next year at the NHL level, I'll be happy. Point and goal production can come later. Hansen 2.0 would be just fine.

If you're talking about me, for one thing I don't whine, blackheart. And I don't call out alf because I have him on ignore. But even if I didn't, I wouldn't call any Canucks fan out for expressing an enthusiastic opinion about one of our prospect's future potential. You see, this is a fan website, for the use of Canucks fans. I call out jerks who express obnoxiously negative opinions here about Canucks for the purpose of trolling Canucks fans. Like claiming some Canuck prospect who is barely old enough to shave will never get better and is already a bust. It's true that I don't really disagree with what alf said. But I don't really see things quite as black and white and simple as you might. OJ, for instance I see as 30% chance of becoming a #1 D, 30% chance of becoming a #2 D, 30% chance of 2nd pairing, and 10% chance of not even becoming 2nd pairing quality.

Shhhhh! It might be like Beetlejuice - say the name and they pop out of the woodwork.
-
Let's hope so. It seems to have worked for Brock, who's faced a lot of adversity and now seems to be 20 years old going on 30.

I agree that barring trades, Vegas will be choosing between Gaunce and Sbisa. But don't agree that they will take Gaunce. Not only is Sbisa more proven at the NHL level, but also Dmen have more value. If LV has 6 Dmen better than Sbisa, they will trade him. And they will get more for him than they would get for Gaunce.

I mostly already do. I only see posts from the more blatant of the trolls like the one you responded to, when someone quotes them.

Hard to steal a game when you can't score any goals.

Hank was 45th in NHL center scoring this year. And Dan was 34th in scoring for left wingers. Those are both still solidly in 2nd line range. And I expect bounce back years for both of them next season. I'm pretty sure that they will have better linemates than Megna or Chaput. And they have a lot of pride and determination and will be avoiding the top shutdown guys for the whole year, because partway through this year opposing coaches started focussing on Bo's line. With Granny or Goldy or Sutter or whoever on their wing, they will probably both get back into the top 30 in scoring for their positions. And if Sutter plays on their wing, I expect him to hit at least 20 goals.

I don't buy the "stole his girlfriend" or "killed his dog" possibilities. My guess is troll. The biggest clue is how he uses the Brock Boeser thread to talk about how Jake, one of the Canuck's most valuable prospects, who by all reports is working very hard this year, is a lazy, entitled cancer.
-
Worked fine when he was playing with the twins. Maybe his most valuable attribute is his versatility. Need a winger, need a centre, first, second, third, fourth line, PK, PP, whatever, he's your man.
-
I agree. And the Canucks still need that drive-right-through-the-player physicality that he brings better than anyone else in their system.
-
Yes, physical players are relatively easy to come by. As are skilled players who are too small. But if you can get a player who has skill, size, and physicality all in the same package, he has infinitely more value than the one dimensional players who are only useful in a skill role or a physical role. That's why it's worth taking a shot at drafting one high and hoping he works out. Remember the Avalanche glory days? That team was built from trading Lindros for a half dozen players ranging from good to elite, plus 2 first round picks. Why? Because he had the great skills along with huge size and a mean streak. With a player like that it feels like having a power play whenever he's on the ice.
-
I have to agree the team is much more fun to watch when they score some goals. Boeser in particular seems to be NHL ready. Aside from the fans wanting to see them (which we really, really do), I don't think it's fair to keep a player like that in the AHL, toiling away for one tenth of the money they have demonstrated they are worth. Especially when his Mother is working at 3 jobs to support the family and Brock wants to be able to help out. Unless he craps the bed in training camp, I think he should be with the Canucks next season. As for Goldy, if he comes to camp looking like he needs more development, then maybe. But I think he, too has pretty much mastered AHL level play, and any further development will come at the NHL level.
-
That and the fact that there are some pretty big bodies in the Pacific division who have been bullying the Canucks for years.
-
Yes, I can see that you don't like dealing with facts. Mildly curious to know what you think I "make up". But not enough to continue this. Feel free to scurry back under your bridge. Clowns who use the term "fanboy" aren't worth the time. Onto the ignore list for you.
-
The term trollboy was in response to your use of the term "JB fanboy". "Fanboy" is a term used exclusively by trolls. Other than that, what I do know about you is that whatever knowledge you think you have about negotiations is minimal and most likely incorrect, based on the first post of yours to which I responded. And tenure on an Internet forum does not prove anything nor does it create credibility.
-
Well, I can see from your simplistic ideas about negotiations that whatever experience you have is extremely limited.
-
Whatever you say trollboy. Sometime you should try actually negotiating. It's often a bit more difficult and complex than you think.
-
I agree. He really doesn't look like he needs AHL seasoning. He looks fully cooked and NHL ready. Considering the Canucks goal scoring woes, I expect him to be playing on the big club next season.
-
I don't agree at all. I'm sure Guddy would be delighted with the idea of a one year deal taking him to UFA. Much better than locking in a multi-year deal based on a nightmare season like this. What Benning says makes sense for both parties, and I expect that is what will happen.
-
Yes, it is absolutely easier said than done. It takes two to tango. And the fact that Bo is an RFA not a UFA isn't a "saving grace", it is a critical element of negotiating leverage that defines the entire shape of the negotiations.
-
It's extremely difficult to project the career trajectory of a teenager. Benning's very good at it, but even he makes mistakes. The CDC posters who go on endlessly about various kids' career "ceilings" are almost invariably out to lunch. Many kids look great as teenagers, but very few continue that steep improvement curve all the way to NHL star. Others break out on the upside. When he was a teenager, how many people believed that ratboy would be in the conversation for Art Ross and Hart ten years later? I would say almost none, or he wouldn't have lasted into the third round of the entry draft. Getting back on topic, OJ might become a solid top 4 Dman, he might become a Norris winner, or he might be a complete bust. At this point nobody knows for sure. Right now I'm leaning toward solid top pairing Dman.
