I see a lot of young players as potentially good fits with Pettersson. That shows how elite Pettersson's hockey sense is; we can throw virtually anyone with him and expect them to become offensive forces. One of the true traits of a great player is the ability to make other players around him better. It's one of the reasons I favour Crosby over Ovechkin in that particular debate.

I feel bad for @SilentSam. He was counting down the days like a kid counting down until Christmas morning, but there was no Tryamkin under his tree

Podkolzin could play with Horvat, especially since Pearson hits UFA that year.

Rafferty with the dangles in tight to win it in OT.

MacEwan is definitely on the path to proving me wrong as I thought he'd be a career AHLer (our Grenier replacement). He brings speed, physicality and most importantly that fire to the lineup. As Benning said, he should be a regular by next year. I really hope that he can be groomed as our Beagle replacement. He needs to work on his defensive awareness and face offs to get to that point.

I don't have a subscription to the Athletic so I can't read it. Can you summarize the main points of the article?

Podkolzin had 1 assist and 2 SOG. He's at 3 points (1G, 2A) in 3 Playoff games.

He has been great since getting more ice time. Good on Podkolzin for making the most of his opportunity. The Playoff experience will be good for him as well.

That seems absurdly expensive given the Backes deal that just took place.

Given Anaheim already took back Backes at the deadline, I don't know if they would be the best target. It's possible, but it would probably be more likely to make this kind of move with Ottawa or Detroit. I doubt they would move Deslauriers anyway, but I was surprised they moved Kase as well. I understand that we aren't giving up a lot here, but if we are looking to dump Eriksson we might as well pay to do it without retention. 3 million in dead cap for 2 more years is a lot, especially added to the Luongo cap recapture. If we are going to bite the bullet, don't do it halfway. With the reports of the cap moving between 84M - 88M, I think we should be in a decent position cap wise if we can move at least one of Sutter/Baertschi. Put Eriksson in Utica for next year and then maybe look at moving him with only one year left.

I believe that next year the KHL is going to be enforcing a soft cap. However, players who are under 21 won't count against that cap. https://en.khl.ru/news/2019/12/11/461007.html Not included in the salary cap: - Individual bonuses worth less than 20% of the player’s salary; - Team bonuses worth less than 20% of the combined wage bill; - Prizes for teams finishing in the top four positions after the playoffs; - Prizes for the top three players in the League; - Salaries of players on two-way contracts with the Junior Hockey League, or playing for the KHL team while aged 21 or under; This is good news for young players like Podkolzin who will more than likely see an increase in playing time and responsibilities as teams try to manage their cap. He's already earned the coaches trust now and he should have less obstacles next year. However, since it is a soft cap and SKA is Putin's team, they may just exceed the cap and pay the excess fee since they have the resources to do so.

Podkolzin's team with the 4-3 victory in game 2. They now lead the series 2-0.

1st overall picks play in the NHL right away the vast majority of the time. That's not McDavid's fault. Blame the media and the fans who don't think critically.

Nobody said anything about Tkachuk.

BUMP Goldobin showing some moves last game. I think Goldobin has handles the whole situation of getting cut really well. He's seen an example up close and personal of going back to Russia and still decided to stick it out here. That takes character and shows his desire to play in the NHL. He's really helped Utica out as one of their best players this year. There were reports that Goldobin has added more defensive responsibility and urgency to his game, which are the main things he needed to get back to the NHL. I'm not sure if he's improved in those areas to the degree he needs to, but he's on the right track. Unfortunately, I don't think the vision that Green and Benning have for this team includes Goldobin. I would like to qualify him at the end of the year so he can play in Utica for us next year, but the best thing for him might be to look for a NHL spot elsewhere.

I think this is the weirdest thread there is among normal Canuck related things.

It's definitely Green's desired team structure that pushed Baertschi out. In training camp, there were two groups. The top 6 of each group consisted of NHLers and the bottom 6 consisted of minor league players who were long shots to make the team. Baertschi was on a line with Focht as his center. I had assumed that it was because Baertschi had missed time with injury and they wanted to start him off slow, but after he got cut it was clear that Green had his mind made up before camp that Baertschi wouldn't be on the team.

I would definitely have interest in Anderson in the offseason. Big, strong RW who has shown goal scoring ability in the past (30 goal scorer last year) and plays a heavy, mean game. He is also friends with Horvat. However, if he is serious about getting a contract in the 6 million range, then I don't think we can fit him in.
