Laine - Aho - Puljujaarvi Kapanen - Natinen - Rantanen At least I would assume Natinen was the 2nd line center.

Hopefully that weight was gained steadily throughout the year. I don't think Juolevi's body type would allow him to gain weight that quickly given he is a bit more slender. Camp sure will be fin to watch.

Somebody posted a link to a thread on HFboards dedicated to Pettersson earlier. It has some really nice insight from as far back as 2 years ago. It was really eye opening for me at least to see that Pettersson had a fair bit of hype surrounding him in Sweden 2+ years ago. There are some people that have been watching him in Sweden for some time, as well as some not as informed opinions as well. Can't hurt to share some more opinions on here. Here are some of the highlights for me: "I've seen him play several times and this kid is just so gifted. Dominant in J18 Allsvenskan even though he was one of the lightest player on the ice in every game." -novon04, 06-04-2015 "He absolutely dominated despite being way behind in the physical department. On his J18 team he put up 38 points in 18 games, the second best in the league had 28 and the second best on his team had 16. That's just ridiculous." -VictorLustig, 06-04-2015 "He's just a natural. Great smarts on both ends, awesome hand-eye and passing ability, controls the puck so well. No real electrifying weapons, just so very smart and so gifted, just natural instincts and knack for reading the game and creating chances. I dunno if John Tavares is a reasonable style comparison, but someone like that who hasn't got elite skating or a rocket of a shot but still creates things with his smarts and hands all the time." -PuckPoise, 07-02-2015 "I see both Elias Pettersson and Dahlén on almost daily basis as I cover their team for the local newspaper. Elias is the biggest prospect that Timrå have had since like Mats Näslund. The GM says he´s better atm than Henrik Zetterberg was at the same time in his carrer. Natuarlly, he has had a little slump in his form after the very impressive start in Hockeyallsvenskan, but latley has started to pick up form again. He´s one of the lightest players, but the things he does with the puck compensates that big time. 9 points in 23 games may not be that super impressive, but he´s been one of Timrås best players this year with Dahlén."If he continues to develop next season, I´d say he may very well be a 1st rounder." -Lumpjaw, 02-04-2016 "He should be in the runner for 1OA at this moment." -ulvvf, 11-06-2016 "I think its easy to have him ahead of Hischier. If you think he'll be a better NHL player, you put him ahead of Hischier. I wouldn't put too much into the number of points players have during the WJC. I think he will be a better NHL player than Hischier, so I have him ranked ahead of Hischier." -Pavel Buchnevich, 01-03-2017 "Well, I haven't. I think he might have the best hockey sense in the draft, and I also think he has really good skill with the puck. I think his smarts on the ice make the rest of his game play up. I've watched him play a number of times. Looks like a future 1st line player in the NHL, although he needs to improve his skating and gain some weight. I agree with you that Nylander has a better skill-set, but Nylander also might go second in a 2014 re-draft. Saying Nylander has a better skill-set doesn't mean Pettersson isn't a better prospect than Hischier." -Pavel Buchnevich, 01-08-2017 "Whoever picks him will almost certainly try to develop him as a centre. His game right now, in my opinion, is better suited at wing, but as tweeners his age go, he might have a better chance than most at sticking at centre because he's already strong on faceoffs. He averaged over 51 % on five attempts a game against grown men this season." -MrStench, 05-23-2017 "There's just a timing and rhythm that certain players have. Datsyuk certainly had it, and I see some of it in Pettersson. Just such an instinctive player. Really good sense of where the puck is, where his stick is, and where his opponent's stick is -- all simultaneously. I saw a play where the puck was coming around the boards to him down low in the corner (to the opposing goalie's left). There was a player right on him who was reaching for the puck. Now, 99/100 players try to beat the defender to the puck, or try to 'tie' the play by taking out the defender's body. But Pettersson slapped the defender's stick away, and did it at such an odd time. It was very Datsyukian. And there was no resistance because the timing had really surprised the defender. He then had the puck and skated away as easy as you please." -MarkusNaslund19, 06-16-2017 "As a Flames fan, I'm bummed the Canucks picked Pettersson. I think this is going to be the best thing Benning ever did for the franchise when all is said and done. He can be a great player. I'd have taken him at 3 or 4 probably." -L13, 06-24-2017 "So according to the Sportsnet feed Pettersson only scored when he played with Dahlén, sounded really inaccurate to me so I looked it up. Pettersson did not play a single game with Dahlén as his linemate the first 18 games, guess who lead the league in scoring at that point?" -VictorLustig, 06-25-2017

If he makes it, it'll probably be as a physical specimen along the boards and in front of the net. The kind of player that's just a nightmare to play against. He played on a very good Owen Sound team, so those goal totals should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Sazuki was the driver of that line. That doesn't mean he can't be a useful player for us in the future though.

I was able to watch him play 4-5 times. Once during the regular season and the rest during the Memorial Cup. He definitely isn't big and he does look a little small in the net. However, he makes up for it with his athleticism. He reads the play well and anticipates where shots are coming from. His rebound control is considered to be pretty good for his age. He's very quick and mobile within his crease and moves side to side very efficiently. He is quietly intense in the net; he doesn't scream at his teammates or the officials but he battles extremely hard. In every single one of the games I watched, the commentators couldn't stop praising him. He was usually a big reason why they won the game. The games I watched he played against London, St. John, Erie and Seattle. Those are all very good teams. He seems like a very intelligent, quiet and humble person that would fit right in with us. With all that said, there are obviously some things he needs to work on. He said it himself in his draft interview that he needs to learn to calm down a bit in net. I mean that in the sense that he often attacks the puck when making a save. It is great to watch and he often makes up for it with a spectacular save, but it's not the most efficient way to play. Players in the higher levels will eat him alive for some of those mistakes. Given his size, I would also be a little concerned about how he fares with bigger, stronger players around his net in the AHL. His defense in Windsor was one of the biggest in the CHL and that likely helped him a great deal in tight to his crease. I think that will take him a while to adapt to. Overall, I think this is a great value pick. The development timeline lines up pretty nicely with Demko's. Having strong goaltending at all levels within the organization can do wonders for the development of other players. His performance in the Memorial Cup was outstanding and hopefully he can continue that through to the AHL and eventually the NHL.

Vilardi must have really messed up his interviews. He obviously did something that put a lot of teams off.

Vilardi must've had bad interviews.

I have a strong feeling it'll be either Vilardi or Glass. -

I guess it's time for me to commit somewhat to a personal ranking. 1) Hischier 2) Patrick ------------- 3) Heskainen 4) Vilardi 5) Glass 6) Liljegren 7) Pettersson HM (other players I like, not necessarily ranked right after): Necas, Foote -

I think there's a pretty good chance Vegas trades into the top-2. They have the sheer number of top-60 picks to do it. It would be good for the NHL too, getting Vegas a young player that they can build around for a long time in either Hischier or Patrick. -

I haven't watched him a lot, but his production on paper is very good. He seems like a David Krejci type player. Adding that to Horvat might not match the entertainment factor of other teams, but it could prove to be pretty effective. -

Glass is someone who I don't know a lot about, but after watching that feature on his family I would be happy if we got him at 5th. The point steady point production (at home and on the road) is a very positive sign, but that character is invaluable. We would be a team full of leaders: Horvat Boeser Glass Juolevi Hutton Demko -
I think Juolevi could end up having a similar effect on the Canucks that Lindholm does on the Ducks. Lindholm probably plays with a bit more energy and more physical though.

We missed out on having a solid, young player contribute to our team because he traded him away. I could've worded that better. -

I would be very happy if we were able to pick up Brannstrom at 33rd. He could be what we missed out on with Forsling. -

Pettersson was someone who really intrigued me earlier in the year, but then he fell off my radar for a little while. He's now back on it. He's a high IQ, playmaking center who put up BIG numbers on Sweden. He outscored players like Forsberg, Nylander and Wennberg in their draft years. He's a very smart player that can find open lanes in the offensive zone. He's got smooth hands, a good shot and a good top speed. He really thrives on finding the soft spots in the offensive zone and giving himself some extra time to make a better play. He played this past year in a men's league, which is better competition than most other forwards in this draft class. His physical tools aren't where they need to be, but his IQ is and that is the most important thing. However, I think he will need to put in a lot of work to play the type of game he does at the next level. His physical tools are not very good, as I mentioned. He is built really thin; he measured in at the combine at 6'2, 165lbs. The weight is concerning, especially considering that his older brother hasn't filled out much either. However, the main thing that I don't like revolves around his skating. His acceleration isn't great and he gets knocked off the puck way too easily. His balance and edgework could also use some work. He's going to have to really commit to bettering himself physically if he wants to make an impact as a top-6 center in the NHL. Now, with that said, I think that he can improve himself enough if he is willing to commit and he has support off the ice. If we were to draft Pettersson, he would be more of a long-term investment. For next year, ideally he signs and comes over to the AHL. There, we can have trainers work with him personally and really give him every opportunity to excel off the ice. Playing games would be less of a concern. For the first 4-6 months, I would keep him on a strict off ice routine and rotate him into the lineup every 2-3 games. The main focus would be on physical improvement. At about the midway point of the season, he should start getting more regular minutes with the team, provided he earns them. The first year would be all about adjustment; what he does on the ice is less important. A big factor in his adjustment would be the fact that he would be with his friend Dahlen, who would help him out off the ice. If we are willing to play the long game with Pettersson and commit to improving him, he could very well be worth the risk. Side note: A line of Dahlen - Pettersson - Virtanen would be fun to watch in Utica. I'm not sure who originally suggested that idea, but I like it.
