  1. I think that Virtanen will end up providing us with about 10-15 goals and 5-15 assists a year in his prime the way things are looking right now. However, he would still be an incredibly intimidating player to play against with his combination of size and speed. He would contribute on the ice in ways other than scoring and would be arguably just as effective as someone who produces more points. The space that he would create and the very change in mindset for the opposing players when he is on the ice could be very valuable. Not to mention that his cap hit likely wouldn't get that high if he produced those types of scoring numbers. I think if we got a Hansen level player with Jake's body, it would still turn out pretty good.
  2. There are only 2 forwards I hope we get in this draft; Hischier or Patrick. I would still take Liljegren over both of them. If those 3 are gone, then I think going with the next best defenseman would be a good way to go. It's looking like that would be Foote. He sounds like he would be a great addition to our blue line as a big, strong, defensively responsible and offensively aware right handed defenseman. His skating doesn't seem elite but it certainly isn't bad. Taking him would allow us to more freedom to trade one of Tanev or Gudbranson: Juolevi - Tanev Hutton - Foote Tryamkin - Stetcher The only forward that hasn't been underwhelming for me is Hischier. He is very smart and can drive offense, just not in a flashy or speedy kind of way. Even with Patrick I'm going with past pedigree. His injury history definitely drops him down for me.
  3. I meant in terms of importance to his team on defense. Alzner's importance as a stay at home, net clearing, defensive specialist is as important to the Capitals as Juolevi's calm, well rounded, puck moving play would be to us. I shoudn't have used the word role when I was describing that. My bad.
  4. 1) Liljegren 2) Hischier 3) Patrick I think we should be trying to go for Liljegren at any cost. Dahlin would make me cry with joy, but getting him is unlikely as 30 other teams will know that he is available as well and make a play for him. Liljegren and Juolevi would give us two great defenseman on our top 2 pairings and solidify our blue line: Tryamkin - Liljegren Juolevi - Gudbranson Brisebois - Stetcher Hutton - Subban
  5. Alzner would be a solid comparable for Juolevi's potential role and impact on our team in the future, wouldn't he?
  6. Jake has always had good puck skills, we just didn't see them much in Vancouver. The change in environment and atmosphere seems to be the biggest thing for him. Hopefully he can continue to slowly figure it out away from the spotlight.
  7. 1) Liljegren 2) Hischier 3) Patrick 4) Mittlestadt 5) Andersson I think Liljegren has the highest potential of any player in this draft. If he hits it he will be the best player by far. The main reason Patrick is below Hischier for me is the injury history. Other than that, he would be #2. I'm not really seeing what others are about Vilardi. His skating is an issue for me and it seems he's being inflated by his team, namely Brown.
  8. While his scoring has been nice, I really think that his complete and high IQ game is what will get him to the next level. He is a very smart player both offensively and defensively and can make plays. Despite his strong faceoff numbers, I think he'll be converted into a winger when he turns pro, unless he continues to kill it at the dot. He could be a pretty effective bottom-6 forward for us with his combination of skill, IQ and two-way play: ________ - Horvat - Boeser Baertschi - _________ - Virtanen Granlund - Gaunce - Lockwood Zalewski - Gaudette - Zhukenov Cassels
  9. Right now, I would still take Liljegren first overall. I think his chances of being an elite defenseman are higher than Patrick's chances of being an elite centerman. He has the vision, agility, speed and hockey IQ to be an elite player in the NHL. Drafting Liljegren would give us one of the best defense cores in the league once everyone arrives: Tryamkin (#4) - Liljegren (#1) Juolevi (#1/2)) - Tanev (#2) Hutton (#3/4) - Gudbranson (#4) Brisebois (#4/5) - Stetcher (#4/5) I don't think we could keep everyone as contract demands will force someone to leave along with ice time. If we landed Liljegren, I think we should move Hutton or Gudbranson for a forward to help fill out our forward core. That would be if everything went right though, which likely won't happen. Imagine adding Liljegren this year and Dahlin next year...
  10. I think we could get away with not completely tanking this year, but next year shouldn't be an option. If we do bottom out this year and next year, we could end up with possibly the best defense in modern hockey history: Dahlin - Liljegren Juolevi - Tanev Tryamkin - Stetcher Gudbranson I doubt we would keep all those guys, but it would be worth the relatively short wait.
  11. Exactly. If he doesn't get his way offensively at the next level, he can focus on being even more defensively aware than he already is.
  12. If Juolevi's offense doesn't translate as expected, he will still be a good shut down defender like Hjalmarsson. At least that's how I see it.
  13. His floor looks like Hjaalmarson, his ceiling looks like Ekman-Larsson
  14. Tolvanen looks like he has some really great offensive instincts. He seems to always be in good position and can find open teammates or unleash his lethal shot. The quickenss in his release and the overall shot velocity reminds me of McCann, and a lot of the same instincts are there as well. Style wise, he looks like Kucherov out there, but I'm not really sure about how likely he is to reach that ceiling. He would be a great add to our prospect pool at forward though and give us two dangerous snipers along with Boeser: Tolvanen - Horvat - Virtanen Baertschi - ______ - Boeser Granlund - Gaunce - Lockwood In theory, I'd rather take a centre or a defenseman this year and a winger next year. But if it works out that Tolvanen is the best player available, then we can't really complain.
  15. I meant that Keller has been doing well in college and Sergachev has been doing well in the NHL L (mostly). Guess I didn't word it correctly. Sorry.
  16. The most talented players in the draft to me were Keller and Sergachev. They have both been doing very well in college and the NHL (mostly). If we wanted pure talent, I think Keller should have been our pick. That's not taking anything away from Juolevi, because he will be a very good defenseman for us. But in terms of creating something out of nothing, Clayton Keller would have been our man.
  17. Mittlestadt looks like a bigger, slightly less electric version of Keller. I was very high on Keller last year and wouldn't have minded taking him 5th overall, but we have to see how the rest of the season plays out before I say the same about Mittlestadt. If he can increase his agility even more than what it is right now, he'll likely be on the same level as Keller for me. I've heard a lot of good things about Valardi, Does anyone have a style comparison for him? Not necessarily a ceiling, just how he plays the game.
  18. If we somehow landed Liljegren, by either trading up or picking top-2, we could use the rest of our picks in 2017 and all of our picks in 2018 on forwards. Vancouver would have one of the best future defense cores in the league. We could trade Tanev once Liljegren is ready to take over and get one of our forwards that way.
  19. Listen, I want Reinhart as badly as you do, but the chances of us even being in a position to trade for him his unlikely, let alone having the pieces that Buffalo wants. If they would do Tanev and a 1st for Reinhart if consider it, but they have absolutely no reason to move him right now. Unless he demands a trade or something, it's not happening.
  20. Stop. We're not getting either of those players, and I wouldn't want RNH as my 1C anyway.
  21. It looks like we are going to have a solid glut of young, bottom 6 forwards for our new core. All we need is a couple of top-6 guys and we should be good. The competition we will consistently have for the bottom spots on our roster will make these guys better and our team better as a result. Right now I see it shaping up to look something like this: ________ - Horvat - Boeser Baertschi - _______ - Virtanen Granlund - Gaunce - Lockwood Zalewski - Cassels - Zhukenov Mckenzie Thats a pretty good looking group of effective, young players. Thats not even including some other guys who could surprise like Gaudette, Jasek, LaBate, Stukel, Rendulic and/or LaPlante. If these guys all develop at least normally, our forward core looks like it will have a nice balance of size, speed, skill, two-way play, creativity and heart.
  22. I doubt Horvat will stay on the 4th line for the whole season. He will continue to progress this season and rise up the depth chart. By next year, that spot should be his to lose. The reason he's on the 4th line now is because he had 2 points in Octover last year. He also struggled defensively last year. If we give him a little time to get his bearings for the season, it could turn out great. At worst, he plays responsible, two-way hockey in a low stakes situation. As for Boeser, he'll probably come into camp and earn that spot right away. With our lack of scoring, he might be put in a position to really succeed. I forgot about the expansion draft. Hopefully Las Vegas claims Sbisa to get to the cap floor. I'm assuming that Dorsett is traded or waived in the offseason with my lineup.
  23. With Boeser, Demko, Stetcher and possibly Juolevi probably stepping into the Canucks lineup next year, 2017-18 will be a great year for the organization. We already have Horvat, Virtanen, Baertschi, Granlund, Gaunce, Tryamkin, Hutton and Marsktrom on the team, and they will be a great new addition to the new Canucks. Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser Gaunce - Sutter - Hansen Virtanen - Granlund - Rodin Zalewski Edler - Tanev Hutton - Gudbranson Tryamkin - Stetcher Juolevi, Pedan/Sbisa Markstrom Demko If all goes well, that looks like a pretty good young team.
  24. At the draft, I was saying that if we were taking a defenseman, it should be Sergachev. While Sergachev still does have a very high ceiling, Juolevi has really opened my eyes to his potential as well. I knew that he had the higher hockey IQ and that he would be an NHL player, but I didn't see the same physical traits that Sergachev or even Chychrun had to truly dominate games at both ends of the rink. After watching him now, it's obvious how effective and efficient he is in a quiet way with his hockey sense, in addition to his better-than-I-expected skating and wrist shot. He definitely has #1D potential, and possibly has the highest odds of reaching out of those previously perceived top-3 defenseman. With that said, his home this year should be in London. Let him add some more physical tools in a safe, proven environment. If he is eligible for Utica in the 2017-18 season, then he should be there, splitting time with Vancouver as well. If he is not Utica eligible in 2017-18, it will make things very interesting. Does anyone know for certain when he is eligible for the AHL?
