  1. Wow, I meant to say that I DO think he'll be on the roster next year. That was a terrible typo
  2. You didn't bring up numbers for any players. For example, re-signing Toffoli at 5M a year, Markstrom at 5.75M per year, etc. It's easy to say things without putting some estimates down and looking at the situation thoroughly. Can you be more specific in your rough outline? If not then its just a bunch of words without anything backing it up.
  3. I'd like to hear more of your ideas with some specific placeholder numbers. Sutter expires this year and Edler has to be either brought back or replaced as a top-4 defenseman, and even then I doubt 10.375M would cover both Pettersson and Hughes, much less re-signing Toffoli and icing a defense that hopefully isn't AHL caliber.
  4. We'd be fine for the upcoming season, but we'd be pressed even tighter than we already are for the following season when Pettersson and Hughes need new deals. We won't be able to get rid of at the very least two of Eriksson, Beagle and Roussel for free and I think adding to that list would do more harm than good.
  5. Shows that we should be extremely grateful for Horvat's decision. He didn't travel across the world, but being anywhere other than home is a massive sacrifice for him to make for the team. It shows why he was the easy choice for the captaincy.
  6. I've tried to work out a trade with the Islanders since the start of the Boeser rumours since they have a young RHD prospect ready to make the jump (Dobson) and a proven RHD looking for a new contract (Pulock). Pulock would be harder to get, but his contract would offset some of the cap involved in the deal. The Islanders are in just as bad of a cap situation as us and that's the biggest hurdle in dealing with them. I don't see any way we can take back any of their contracts. Even without adding any new contracts we are already going to be very tight to the cap this upcoming season and probably over the cap for the season after. Trades will have to be made to move cap out, not bring in Ladd/Boychuk. Unless you think Boychuk can replace Tanev in the lineup, we absolutely cannot afford to take back on of those contracts and therefore dealing with the Islanders is pretty unlikely.
  7. Rafferty was one of the guys that stood out to Benning way back in training camp. He made an impression with his poise and IQ. I do think he'll be on our NHL roster next year. He's also waiver eligible next year I'm pretty sure, so that would factor in to the decision making as well as a reason for him to earn a spot.
  8. A trade structure that Detroit fans seem to accept is Eriksson + Demko + 2nd for a 7th. Since re-signing Markstrom seems like the priority, moving Demko makes sense.
  9. I doubt Winnipeg would move Ehlers for Boeser. They already have Laine as their right-handed triggerman and Boeser wouldn't have a place on the first unit, which greatly diminishes his value in the eyes of the Jets.
  10. I seriously doubt this rumour as of right now. Keeping Toffoli over Boeser would be a move that would warrant firing Benning if the move is purely made for cap reasons (ie. we get picks/prospects in return). If we do end up shopping him, it better be for a young defenseman like Pulock, McAvoy, Werenski, Ekblad, Pesce, etc. in something close to a 1-for-1. Then it would simply be a lateral move to address a positional need. Anything else and its a terrible move by the organization and management.
  11. Lose to the Wild so Brackett drafts as late as possible. That'll show him! /Sarcasm
  12. 12.5% odds are ridiculously high and more than any team in the Play-In tournament deserves. If we win the series and the Wild win the lottery, it'll be tough to swallow. If we lose and the Wild win a round or two, it'll be a tough pill to swallow. I'll choose to look at it as a win-win.
  13. I thought it was Baertschi - Jasek - Goldobin? Comets were deep up front this year.
  14. Lind's numbers went up significantly in part because he was playing with Boucher right? We'll see what he can do next year as the go-to guy. That should be a great test for him.
  15. If I was looking to trade Podkolzin it would be for prospect of RHD prospect of equivalent caliber. I was talking with some Islanders fans about Podkolzin for Dobson straight up and the value was close, but its tough to pry a young RHD on an ELC. They're probably the only team that meets the conditions necessary for a move like that: 1) They have a RHD prospect we could use (Dobson) 2) They have an excess of current and future RHD 3) They have a need for wingers. The Rangers might fit the bill as well but I don't think their RHD prospect (Lundkvist) fits our needs as well as Dobson. I think there was a poster on here who suggested this deal a while back as well. I was also talking to some Detroit fans about dumping Eriksson's contract and we actually agreed on a deal: Eriksson + DiPietro + 2nd 2021 for a 6th 2021. They originally wanted Demko but I offered DiPietro instead. The Red Wings still need a goalie for the future and they have cap space to spare since they won't be competing soon. Keeping Demko allows the Canucks to not have to worry about our suddenly barren goalie pipeline as he's young enough to be around for the long haul.
  16. How does Edler need to be added? He holds a bunch of franchise records for defense men already. Nominating Edler. Voted Daniel.
  17. Karlsson's season has been the tale of two teams. His first team, Karlskrona, was somewhat challenged offensively. Their leading scorer has 37 points in 52 games (0.71 PPG) and Karlsson in his time there before the trade had 22 points in 36 games (0.61 PPG). Karlsson's new team however has some more offensive firepower and his offense has taken off as a result. Karlskoga, his new team, has the 6th and 7th leading scorers in the league at just over 1PPG each. Karlsson has put up 18 points in 12 games (1.5 PPG) on this team. If Karlsson does stay in Sweden for another year, hopefully he can continue this kind of offensive output.
  18. Paryako couldn't replace all of Pietrangelo's offense, but he's capable of playing those minutes. You don't think Paryako's point totals would jump playing on the first unit powerplay? I agree that no team would let their #1 defenseman (and captain) walk, but every decision has to be made with the cap implications in mind especially now that we could actually see a cap reduction next year.
  19. Much more likely that they let the older, more expensive player walk rather than move their younger, cost controlled asset who could effectively replace him. I get that he's their captain, but tough decisions have to be made.
  20. The Rangers signed Miller out of the NCAA yesterday, so signings are still allowed. Of course the new signed players aren't really going to play anywhere, but they get their money.
  21. Wow, this could severely impact a lot of teams including us.
  22. Newhook has had an incredible 2nd half of the season in the NCAA. Sakic took the two west coast boys while in Vancouver.
  23. Ovechkin will bump up other player's totals, but not to the same degree as Crosby. Ovechkin has played with prime playmakers (Backstrom/Kuznetsov) for a reason. Crosby has played with relative plugs (Kunitz/Dupuis) for far longer and much more consistently. As a lesser example, Boeser's scoring dried up when he moved down to the 3rd line. Virtanen's scoring jumped up after playing with Pettersson.
