I don't see this as being very accurate. 1. Drafting Jake over other, more talented players. 2. Signing Loui Eriksson to a ridiculous contract. 3. Drafting Olli Juolevi over Matthew Tkachuk. 4. Trading for Erik Gudbranson and overpaying for him. 5. Hunter Shinkaruk 6.Signing Brandon Sutter as a corner stone player. 7. Overpaying for Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel. 8. Signing Tyler Myers to another ridiculous contract. 9. Overpaying Alex Edler. 10. Last offseason's brutal offseason, losing Toffoli for nothing. 11. Consistent lack of clear direction and actually saying he's taking things day by day which definitely shows in his inconsistent decisions. 12. Lack of communication with his players to let them know the plan moving forward. 13. Sam Gagne. 14. Michael Ferland. 15. Willie Desjardins.

In the past I've been critical of picking OJ where we did and still lament missing out on Matthew Tkachuk but, I am very happy to see him having good success and becoming a steady defender.

This is my thinking too. I don't see how holding on to a false sense of hope of a playoff appearance benefits anyone. Especially when there's no one in the stands. I too would much rather see where players like Lind, Rathbone, and, maybe, Gadjovich are in their development. Giving them some ice time would also serve as a great chance for TG to give them some input as to where they need to improve to give them the best chance of success next season.

I feel for every one of our players. Everyone can see they're trying to give it 100% but they just don't have the energy to play a full 60 minute game. On top of that, now they're expected to play 13 games in 17 days just to appease media. It sux. At the end of this joke of a season I hope none of them hangs their heads. I give all the credit in the world to our players for their effort and will not fault them for the slide.

New Jersey - Vancouver (Discussion)
komodo0921 replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The only reason I even entertain the idea of dealing QH is due to his weaknesses defensively. That being said, trading for a player with similar issues would seem to be a lateral move, imo. Pavel Zacha is another player who's defensive play is weak. Ty Smith is proving to be a decent defender but with Jack Rathbone, quickly, showing similar attributes, he too, could be a redundant move, given similar size. I am, and always have been, a fan of a traditional, bigger, rougher, defense. Rathbone, though smaller, plays with edge and plays all three zones. I believe he's an NHL starter next season and we will see whether or not two smaller defensemen can be effective in the NHL. I have said in other threads that I believe JR could be the only defender in our system that could make QH expendable. This deal, imo, does not hold up simply because it's trading weaknesses away for the same weaknesses in return. I am also not diminishing Hughes' value by attaching LE to a deal. I'd rather ride out LE to the end and move on. Counter proposal: Quinn Hughes to NJ for 2021 2nd rnd pick, 2022 1st rnd pick, Kevin Bahl, and Nolan Foote. Quinn Hughes is an offensive specialist going to a team that seems to be developing an offensive strategy, depending on high scoring to win games. QH fits this. In return, we are getting two prospects that fit the strategy that TG is trying to implement. Defensive responsibility, physicality, size, and depth at positions we need. JB shines at the draft. Having two picks added to his draft pool over the next two is a luxury he should be excited about. -
Canucks fans fly #FireBenning banner over Vancouver
komodo0921 replied to Tom Sestito's topic in Canucks Talk
May be in bad taste (although I am on board with firing JB) but it did raise money for Canucks for kids foundation so not a total waste. -
1. Max has played with diabetes his entire life and has had no issues. I'm ok with it. 2. His dad rocked. 3. At this time, his contract is a bit of an albatross but, he has shown the capability to produce up to that value and he brings the, all important "intangibles" that fans love. Imho, I believe his value, as an asset, is too low right now, given what they traded away. To deal him now would make Kekalainen look pretty silly. Also adding fuel to the fire is the Laine deal which has, also, been a bit problematic. The problem, as I see it, is that there's a disconnect between GM and coach. Everyone knows Torts is a defense first guy. Kekolainen brought in two players that don't really excel in the dzone. I think both would do much better under a Vigneult type system where it's all forward, the best defense being a good offense mentality. After all's said and done, I think it's Torts who's going to be on the outside, not the players. Kekolainen's invested to much in assets and reputation into these two to see them walk now. As for value and fit, I think Roussel is logical with Woo being the main piece going back. Woo plays a Torts style game and could, actually thrive under his tutelage.

Totally agree. Having him play in a, high profile, situation like the Worlds should only add to his development and bring him here on a high note. It will also give him more time to get used to being away from home and be fully ready for training camp. Can't wait to see this guy in a Vancouver uni.

Canucks' AHL affiliate may move from Utica

i would love to see them move to BC. Having recently moved North, it would be nice to see some televised games, if possible. -
Oops. trade Schmidt for Bowey
-
It appears we are set up quite nicely for the expansion draft. Petey Horvat Boeser Miller Pearson Motte Virtanen Juolevi Myers Bowey With the rest of our players, it comes down to game management. None of Juolevi, Macewen, Lind, Gadjovich, or Jasek have met the games required to need protecting and, with Lind, Juolevi, and Macewen on the taxi squad, there's no rush to play them. Gadjovich and Jasek both require 14 more games to require protection. With only 12 more games remaining on their schedule, they won't meet the requirements either. We're going to be fine.

[Proposal] Rumours about Schmidt and Miller

If it was Sutter, unless the plan moving forward was to re-sign him, the tdl would be the last opportunity to trade Sutter. -
[Proposal] Rumours about Schmidt and Miller
komodo0921 replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
For me, Schmidt hasn't really received ample opportunity to show his value to this team. To trade him this early in his tenure as a Canuck could prove more costly, either as a player or an asset. Although he is turning 30 this year, I would like to see a full season out of Schmidt before a decision is made on the best course of action. Miller's situation is a bit more curious to me. On the one hand, we have a winger/center who has really brought the glue and backbone to a top-notch first line. On the other, we have a 28 year old player who has peaked and could be used as a prime trade asset to bring more top youthful prospects and/or draft picks to add to a, still young, team in dire need of it. During his post-tdl interview, JB said he'd had a conversation with another player about his future with the team and it was decided now wasn't the right time to make a move. I'm wondering if that player wasn't Miller. This scenario fits the context of the rumors. Miller has become very important in our line-up, trading him now may be too big of a hit to be able to absorb at this time. Fast forward to the end of the 2021-2022 season; Hoglander takes another step upward and Podz proves himself a capable, productive forward for us and the loss of Miller becomes less impactful. It makes more sense. Imo, if this is the case then the right decision has been made. He is far too important to our youth's development. He brings experience, production, and maturity to a young core still trying to find it's identity. He provides support to a young captain in Horvat and can take on some of the pressures that comes with the C. -
I can appreciate the positive attitude but it's time to come back to earth. Time to start looking at the draft and the lottery.

Oh please, please, pretty please, let the hockey gods shine on us for once.

Adam Gaudette and a 4th rnd pick to Cicago for Matthew Highmore, Madison Bowey, and a 5th rnd pick Not sure this deal works in our favor. While, up until this season, Gauds was trending upwards, neither Highmore nor Bowey were doing anything to suggest they were about to break out. Analysts on Sportsnet, however, seem very intrigued with Highmore coming to Vancouver so maybe there may be something significant to this move. As I'm simply going off stats and can't claim to even know who Highmore is, they seem to have more insight then I do so I reserve any real opinion on this player until I see what he brings. Bowey, on the other hand, is a player who I was really high on when he was drafted. Unfortunately, to this point in his career, he has not lived up to the hype but I definitely hope he finds his game here. Although I am far from a pro manager, scout, or coach, it would seem logical for him to get back to what got him drafted. Getting back to a speedy, hard-nosed defender with a good first pass would be of great benefit to him. Keep it simple and play to his strengths and work on being a responsible defender. We could definitely use him on the right side if he can come around. Jordie Benn to Winnipeg for a 6th rnd pick No brainer here. There was no plan to re-sign him. Getting a pick is a win. The Gaudette deal definitely has the potential to blow up in JB's face. Although I've said in other threads that, imo, the fit for Gauds here feels wrong, I definitely feel JB sold low and re-signing him one more time to give him a full season to return to the upward trending player he was last year may have been the more prudent move so I hope for his sake Highmore and Bowey turn into what we need, namely a #2 LW and a top 4 RD. If not, we may be chalking up another mistake by JB.

Turned out to be comments about availability.

The interview was cut off on Sportsnet right when they were about to talk about Podz. Did anybody catch the conversation?
