  1. This proposal, completely, depends on Markstrom re-upping with us but, in the event that he does, Demko's future here would be in doubt, if not over, as we'd be forced to expose him at the expansion draft if he's not dealt. I'm not comfortable with this. Rumor has it, Dumba is available with Friedman saying Guerin wants a center in return but would also like to solve his problems between the pipes. This got me to thinking. Although I've made it clear that I'm not interested in Dumba, due to money concerns, I am interested in continuing the build. Demko, Gaudette, 2021 1st rounder, and Brandon Sutter for Minnesota's 9th overall 2020, with which we use to draft Braden Schneider and Joel Eriksson-Ek This covers both bases for Minnesota and nets them another 1st rounder for next year. It, also fills our need on the blueline, replaces Gaudette, and frees up a little cap room.. Demko becomes their #1 moving forward and Gaudette becomes a center that is given a better opportunity to become more, what I believe he may be. A 2C. To me, Gaudette does not fit the 3C role and must be used in a more offensive setting where he can better use his skillset. We get a RD I am very high on. He has all the attributes we need on our blueline, Mobility, Physicality, and enough offensive upside to develop to NHL levels. He's also said to be close to ready for NHL duty. This, to me, says he could be competing for a spot in 2021-2022. We replace Gaudette with a player more suited to a 3rd line supporting role in Eriksson-Ek. I know JB said he wasn't interested in trading picks but we get one back, with which we get to advance our build to a quicker pace. As far as fantasy hockey goes, I think this is of the highest quality but, I also believe it would be a fair deal that makes both teams better.
  2. 1. Tryamkin can't be signed until his contract is up in the KHL. 2. The fact that Toffoli is closer to signing then Marky, suggests things aren't going well with negotiations to retain him and we could, very well, be looking at Demko as our starter next season. 3. Trading for Dumba would be pushing Tanev out the door due to commitments to Edler and Myers. 4. Agree on Leivo. He's proven effective when healthy. Want to see him in a full season. He should come at a decent price. 5. Want to see Motte back too. 6. The highlighted area is where dealing Virtanen becomes an issue. Everyone knows he's got skills but, everyone also knows he's a wildcard as to what's being gained. Virtanen has value but, I don't think it's high enough to get Dumba, even with the proposed adds. I'd have to believe Boeser's name would come up, and that's a non-starter for me. I do, however, agree Virtanen's time here should come to an end. 7. Ottawa's not taking Eriksson for, what amounts to leftovers. Stetcher's a decent depth guy but, he's far from getting Loui off the books. Focht may be a decent player but, is no where near an NHL certainty. I believe we're riding Eriksson's contract to the bitter end. While this years playoff push has created a strong desire to see it improved on, the fact is, it was also a real toss up as to who was going to come out of the gates hot and who was going to be cold. Some players' desire to be there may not have been strong as evidenced by Rask's departure mid-run. This creates a lot of doubt in my mind as to where we truly are in our build. The reality is, we may not have even made the playoffs, had the season been played out. While grabbing a high profile player in Dumba may be an exciting prospect to some, I rebut with the fact that we have a defender in our own system in Woo that carries a lot of the same traits as Dumba and is one I'd like to see fully developed. Sports history has proven that internal development is the true path to winning. I believe this should be our direction.
  3. I wouldn't be putting him there to offset Hughes defensively as Hughes has proven capable in our end also (just needs more experience). I'm putting him there to take advantage of his wicked shot and provide a physical element to the pairing. Hughes setting up Dumba could be a regular thing for that pairing. Truth be told though, I'm still curious as to what Woo can bring. Would way rather wait for our own talent to develop.
  4. I would love to get Dumba to match with Hughes as long as it's not Boeser going the other way as I'm sure his name will, immediately, come up.
  5. I have a feeling he's going to start on the fourth line to acclimatize him to the North American game and then move him up as he proves ready for more responsibility and ice time.
  6. Benning has had a tenuous journey with the Canucks but is, now, enjoying some of the fruits of his labor. Now in his 5th season at the helm of the Canucks, JB's core is beginning to take shape. Miller Petey Toffoli Horvat Boeser Podkolzin Macewen Hughes Rathbone Edler Juolevi Myers Demko The players I've listed above are the players, I believe, will be here three seasons from now and will be part of the team that will compete for a cup. The most encouraging part of this is that, of the thirteen players listed, 10 are Vancouver drafted. That's a recipe for success. However, his full vision still requires a lot of work. He still needs to fill out the LW and C positions. as well as a premiere RD. It has been a long journey but, I am glad JB can now crack a bit of a smile as his successes are now coming around.
  7. I don't know about that. A team like Colorado could sure use him. Their number one problem in the playoffs was goaltending. Having Marky between the pipes would definitely raise their odds of winning a cup. If signing him becomes doubtful, maybe Colorado might be interested in an exclusive negotiating window with him for a low draft pick.
  8. I absolutely agree. Our embarrassment of riches on the wings is envious.
  9. I, somewhat, agree. Yes, at the moment, Brock may not be at the level that makes a seven and a half million dollar qualifying offer worth it but, he still has two more seasons to get there. Given that so much of his first three seasons have been marred by injury, it's really tough to offer opinion as to what his ceiling truly is. It's unfortunate that he's experienced so many injuries that really were of the fluke variety. It would be so much easier to pass on him if they came about due to poor conditioning but, that hasn't been the case. He's come into every season in peak condition and is dedicated to his craft. The conundrum is; Does JB capitalize on his current value? Or; Does he keep going with him to find out what he truly is, if he can stay healthy? My hope is for the latter. I think he has all the promise to be an elite winger in the NHL I think 60-70 pnts is not beyond his reach and if he can get there he'll be worth the price tag. The problem will then become; Can we afford him? I see this being more the issue than his production but, that's also a topic for the future, not now.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. Simplifying his game and taking a lot of pressure off could be the way to go. The problem is, we have an embarrassment of wealth on the wings. Unfortunately, either way Gaud seems to lack the sandpaper game I like on the third line. It's a tough thing to say,but he could be one of the expendables. I've been mentioning in other posts about acquiring somebody like Domi. Plays a much more abrasive game and would slot nicely into the 3C position.
  11. The Marky vs Demko debate is anything but simple. Unless Marky signs a 3-4 year deal with no nmc and south of six mil per season, I think JB is going to face scrutiny no matter what happens. I believe JB is going to be forced to make a choice. My perspective is this. JB has stated that Demko is the future for us between the pipes. At some point you have to be willing to realize that commitment and give him the job. It's the only way you truly find out if you've found your guy or not. I say give him the job and save the money. Next off-season is going to be expensive. Sign Toffoli. Not signing Marky affords us the ability to re-sign him. Most have him pegged at about 5 mil per season. I'd be very comfortable with that, given what I've seen from him so far. I would love to re-sign Tanev but; What's the price tag? 5 mil seems to be a magic number, of sorts, for this team and I'm comfortable with Tanev at this number. He's been a warrior for us and has sacrificed body and soul for this team. He's earned it. Let's keep him a Canuck. I agree on Stetch. He tries but, the one undeniable thing is his lack of effectiveness against bigger forwards. At no point was our lack of size more exposed then game 7 against Las Vegas. We had no answer for their relentless grinding and pounding. We looked weak and they showed us just how weak we were. Our defense in particular has too many small players. With Hughes at 5'10" and lacking any kind of aggression and Jack Rathbone at 5'11" ( I do believe he'll be in the line up next year ), we can ill afford another small dman. One glaring problem I saw when our playoffs were done was all the stat lines with zeros across the board. Myers, Eriksson Gaudette, Fantenberg, Benn, and Macewen, all had zero points. That's way too many players not contributing on the score sheet, especially Myers and Eriksson. I, also expected more out of Virtanen. I don't think anybody expected him to become a scoring machine but, 3 points is not enough. He showed spurts of aggression but, much like his regular season performance, his game lacked any kind of consistency. I can honestly say, I'm off the Virtanen train. Maybe a change of scenery would serve him well. Gaudette is another who was, virtually, invisible. Again, very little aggression or push back. We need more bite in our line up that can contribute at a greater rate. We need changes; changes that may not be popular in Vancity but that are necessary. I have it like this for next year: Miller Petey Tofu Pearson Horvat Boeser Roussel Motte Beagle Macewen Eriksson Hughes Tanev Edler Myers Rathbone Benn Demko Obviously, the most noticeable omissions are Gaudette and Virtanen. Unfortunately, with Roussel and Beagle locked in for two more seasons, I feel that Gaudette and Virtanen are two expendables. Those two should be able to get a good right side defender or a good third line center with more snarl, say, Max Domi. We could try sign a player like Radko Gudas to a short term deal to bring the bite to our blue line. Although the names mentioned above serve as examples of change, I feel it is imperative that changes be made to move this team forward and to avoid stagnation.
  12. Rumor has it, talks aren't going well between Marky's camp and Vancouver brass so it looks to be a definite possibility, maybe even likely.
  13. Imo, for their first taste of the post-season, they've done pretty well for themselves and they're not out of it yet. They've proven to be pretty clutch when games become must wins. I think if you ask anyone if they thought it would be Vancouver/Las Vagas in the second round, I don't think many, if any, would've said yes. Many didn't even have them making the post-season and now we're the last Canadian team standing. It's not far fetched to say we're farther along in our rebuild then teams like Toronto and Edmonton, even with the Toronto tank and Edmonton being gifted so many superstar caliber players. All I know is I'm enjoying yelling at the TV again and jumping up when a big play happens, bitching about the refs and high fiving in excitement Are our boys ready yet? Probably not but, I am exstatic at what I'm seeing and, hopefully get to see another round but if not, they've really got something to build off of next season. So thanks to the boys for bringing back some excitement to BC.
  14. So really, the shade being thrown at Boeser and Virtanen is pretty unfair when you have to count it as a team fail. P.S. I'm not singling you out as the one saying it.
  15. Missed the game due to employment obligations (gets in the way of all the fun). See a lot of angst for Boeser and Virtanen but; Who were the best Canucks?
  16. Seattle or Detroit for a pick? In Seattle's case, it would also be agreed that the trade counts as their draft choice from us. Obviously I'm thinking next offseason though.
  17. One guy I'd take a flyer on would be Josh Brook. 6'1, right shot defender who plays a two way, physical style and has offensive upside. He's 21 years old and entering his second full season with Laval. He's started slowly but, reports say he's steadily improving and could still become a very good NHL defender. Trading Jake Virtanen for a top end NHL defenseman, straight up is highly unlikely so if we want to get one in return, imo, it will have to be through a player who comes with risk. Josh Brook fits this. He's got good upside but has, as of yet, not achieved his potential. His style of play fits what we need and his upside could turn into a win for us.
  18. I don't mind this deal, though I think it's more of a deal for next off-season when Podz is ready to come over. We sacrifice a little more offence for more physicality.
  19. Yea, it s rough having a point a game player in our line up.
  20. We had a pretty healthy advantage in the face off dot. Need to use it more to our advantage. Lots of pucks at Reimer. Make him freeze the puck. As long as we keep them in the circle their size an speed means nothing. Make it ugly and chaotic.
  21. My heart wants to say Vancouver but, reality says Golden knights. But, who knows? Could Marky pull off what Tim Thomas did in 2011 and steal enough wins to win it all? Quite possibly. He's looking good so far. Still gonna say knights in 6. I just don't think they're there yet. I still say 2022 will be our year.
  22. To be honest, if management does ultimately decide Virtanen's not to be a part of our long term plans, I'm more inclined to gather more draft picks. I do believe Marky will be here for the long haul which makes Demko expendable. Would Demko and Virtanen get us a first rounder? Maybe from a team with many first? Ottawa?
  23. I think the biggest thing he needs to learn is that hockey, as a career, is a 365 day job. Maintaining peak physical shape and making sure he shows up to camp and every game physically and mentally ready is his responsibility to himself, his team, and the fans. The thing I don't get is why he doesn't play the game that got him drafted more consistently. Hard hitting, physical hockey. Of course this comes with it's share of scrums and face washes but no ones asking him to fight (it's not his thing). He simply needs to be an aggressive player. When he plays that game, he's proven he can be a beast. If he played that game, no one would even be discussing him as a trade possibility. Hopefully, he will, soon, begin to start maturing mentally and embracing the gifts he was born with to become what we all hope he will.
  24. I'm excited to see this kid live. I just hope he lives up to the hype. Very soon, our right side is going to be over filled and decisions will have to be made.
